Edmund the High King of Narnia?

I think an explanation from the makers of the film will end this discussion. Well, maybe they have to say what on earth happened and they gave Lucy and Ed a "high" in distinguishing the kings of the Golden Age from Caspian X. But still, Peter's the High King, It's just King and Queen actually..;)

Yes, it's just King and Queen. This has nothing to do with Peter's title. This is not Aslan talking! It's Caspian, being respectfull, nothing more.
Would be interesting getting an explanation from the filmmakers ;)

Nobody would have thought of Caspian being disrespectful by simply calling them "King and Queen." So also, he is not being "more" respectful by saying "High King and Queen." He is clearly giving Edmund a title that doesn't belong to him.

My guess is that it was passed down to Edmund since Peter would not be returning to Narnia, he was no longer High King of Narnia. Since Edmund and Lucy returned I think Edmund was given the title of High King of Narnia since he was actually in Narnia.

Very introspective. Since only Edmund and Lucy returned they share the title of "high." I like that.

This theory has already been proposed in previous posts and I've already replied to it. Even if this is the case, it still doesn't make it right to call Edmund High King because Peter retained the title forever, even if he never returned to this Narnia. He was High King of Narnia even here on earth and in the New Narnia. Read TLB.

Perhaps another example of how much (or rather, little) the script-writers understood about the books?

My point. The writers of this script never read the other books and did not understand Narnia at all.

Of course it's not consistent with the books, but now that it's part of the movie, it needs some sort of explanation. It remains for me, one of the least of my worries compared with other changes/additions the film brought.

We don't discuss thing here because we're worried. We discuss them because they are worth discussing.

I do not know if someone has said this before, but I believe that he MAY have said that to show how much authority they have, who they are, in a sense...
Yes, someone may have said it before. Still, Edmund had only the authority of a King. He would never take the authority of a High King because it did not belong to him.

I understand where you're coming from BK but from the way I see it, it is time for the people of Narnia to move on. It's like keeping an empty seat at your dinner table at home for someone that has died. You leave the seat empty because that was their chair but they don't need the chair anymore. Sorry to be morbid, but it's the best way I can explain it.

Peter won't return to Narnia anymore, therefor he isn't High King anymore. I don't think the title was given to him forever, just while he is in Narnia. I think in the first movie, the people of Narnia thought their Kings and Queens would be with them until the end of time but when they accidentally left Narnia it changed things for the people of Narnia

Peter was called High King to show that he was the highest ranking of the other King and Queens. No other King would have needed that title because it was only with the Pevensies that Narnia had more than one Sovereign. It's not really a question of the people of Narnia moving on.

It might have bothered me more (giving Ed and Lu the title) if they had stuck to Peter's true, noble character in the movie. Unfortunately, they didn't portray him like High King like in the books. So for me, with the loss of the character came some of the loss of the title.

I can see your point Lucy Fan, but as moonspinner pointed out, this has nothing to do with the people of Narnia moving on. Besides, once a King or Queen, always a King or Queen. The people of Narnia had no reason to "move on" and to go ahead and give Peter's title to whoever.
