If anyone is reading the Sil *spoilers*

since it didn't specify that it had to be in LotR I'm picking some characters from the Sil... Tuor and Idril are my favorite couple, aww so cute and they didn't have to die. The UT really increased my love for Tuor, and Idril in her wisdom and disernment not to mention her joy of being shoeless (kindred spirits), I wish I lived in Gondolin.

The friendship between Maedhros and Fingon was so strong, that Fingon would lay aside the grudge his people had against those following Feanor to rescue his friend.

The bond between Finrod and Barahir, for which Finrod was willing to die to uphold being true to Beren as he would have his father.

Yet Earendil and Elwing went to sacrifice themselves to bring hope to Middle Earth and through them hope was given to men. (I love his ship Vingliot too)

Feanor was a character of depth, yet he was the cause of so many evil deeds, of the kinslaying, the oath, and the Curse of Mandos.

Anyway, I could keep on rambling, but I won't put you through that

It is difficoult to find only the one...
In a book and in the movies of course Aragorn, for the beggining I've liked him very much, and I was very happy, that Aragorn in the movie looks like I've imagined, when I read book!
And Faramir - I respect and like him like Aragorn!
Eowin - my favourite woman from book, but in the movies she did't look like I've imagined.I like Miranda, but she did'nt look like proud and brave princess of Rohan...
Frodo:)) because of his beautiful and sweet blue eyes...and Legolas, my dear elf:)
And Sam - without Sam Frodo wouldn't get to Mordor and finally win...

Legolas is cool, he's just not my favorite... :) His archery skills are awesome though. And in TTT when he slides down the stairs on the shield....now THAT was cool!! :D

I think Faramir is an amazing character. I mean, just imagine being basically rejected and destroyed by your father, your brother dying and I mean, he's just so strong to have turned out the way he did in the end. He was still obedient and sacraficial to the good cause. Sure, in the movies, he made lots of big mistakes, but he get his act together in Retrn of the King!
*sighs* Amazing

I feel a bit naughty posting in this part of the forum as I haven't read the books. But my favourite character from the films is def Arwen cos shes gorgeous! What a shallow answer!

Ach! *is shocked and considers posting copies of the books to Leeds*
The books really are sooo cool- and much easier to get to grips with once you have the imigary of the films to start fropm- their more rewarding as well - you really have to work for the story!

lol! I know exactly what you mean- it took me about 9 years to finish reading them- once you get past all the meetings in Rivendell it gets better, i promise!

Legolas and Gimli

I voted for Legolas, but I like him and Gimli both, because in the books their friendship develops in such a compelling way. The dwarves and elves have this ancient enmity because of the troubles in Moria centuries before, so that at first Legolas and Gimli can barely stand each other. Then they come to respect and value one another, and finally become all but inseparable. They share a horse because Gimli is too little to ride alone, and this practice reminds me of the Knights Templar, whose flag or crest, I believe, bore the silhouette of two men on one horse, brothers in serving Christ, that sort of thing ... I like that whole idea. That said, it is way too hard to choose a favorite character because all the characters are so strong -- hobbits, Gandalf, Aragorn, Elrond, Galadriel and all elves, etc. I think Theoden is under-sung, because he really is an interesting study, and Boromir, too. Oh, I agree with the complaint about the films that had Faramir dragging Frodo to Osgiliath. It never happened. He was a good character, too. But I liked Arwen's expanded role in the movies.

I voted for Aragorn, but both Aragorn and Faramir are my favorites. I like Faramir better in the books though because he lets Frodo and Sam go while they are still in Ithilien.

I voted legolas, because he is willing to take the steps that other elves wouldn't... and because even though he is a prince, he acknowleges Aragorn as his leader and as his friend.

Experiences in Mordor and how Tolkien saw it in person

I encourage anyone who aches for Frodo and Sam's during their long trial in Mordor to read, "All Quiet on the Western Front", the accounts of a young soldier huddled in the trenches in the hell on earth we now call World War I.
After this, the sufferings of the hobbits as they struggle toward Mt Doom will seem all the more poignant, for the happenings Tolkien describes there are his own war experiences, fragmented. I should note that it makes no difference, in an emotional sense, that the soldier in All Quiet is fighting for the other side...

I dont know, i dont have a favorite. I like so many.
I like Legolas, cause he is soo cool (book/movie), but then again i like Pippin and Merry cause they were funny. Of course there is Eowen, who is an awesome fighter and a true women. Faramir was just so.....well i mainly felt sorry for him for the way his father treated him. How he was always in Boromir's shadow. Then Aragorn who can do so much even though he is just a man. He is so elf like, but is not an elf. So i dont know, they all have something special bout them. I could never chose.

I voted for the Hobbits. I think that they are so great because unlike Aragorn and Gandalf and a lot of other characters in the trilogy, they have never really been on an adventure, so to speak of.

I think that the Hobbits deserve praise because they are just ordinary folks called to do extraordinary things.

However, I LOVE Aragorn and Legolas. They are also some favorites of mine!
