Grammar Sticklers Unite!

The greatest mistake the drivers ever made, was that they could never find the problem in the car before it was too late.

Anyone see something wrong there?

'made' needs to be 'make'?
and uh, you dont need 'that'?

i know, im terrible. sue me...... ;)

Nope. I'm a college grad, but my degree is in theology, not English. I've also never been a teacher (unless you include the fact that I used to teach ACT prep classes, but I don't think that counts). I've just got a knack for sounding like I know what I'm talking about, even when I don't. I think I inherited it from my dad. You may have run into him because he's a mod on this forum; his name's PrinceOfTheWest.

Naw, but then again, a lot of people probably wouln't see it. Made is fine as it is, and 'that' is one of the words in English that can be taken out almost whenever it's used, but can be left in just the same. In this case, the problem is... a rogue comma. Don't you love them?

BTW, has anyone ever been to a grocery store or something where they were advertising for "apple's, grape's, and orange's"

That is true. As far as I know there are three of us: my uncle, my youngest brother, and me. Dad was the first family member on the forum, and got all of us interested in it.

Well, bear in mind that I'm twenty-three years old, and haven't lived with him for quite a while. It's my brother, who is ten years younger than I and still lives at home, who has to watch his step. :D

The random apostrophes in the plural nouns drive me crazy. You do not need an apostrophe in order to pluralize! What is so hard for people (especially, it seems, people who are selling things) to understand about that?
