Greek Mythology

I love Greek Mythology! (Although I don't really believe in it  ) I read a book about that when I was 8 and I was hooked! Although I don't know all.. Just the Gods and Godesses and what they did... and some half-gods, etc.

I love Greek Mythology! I also think Norse Mythology is cool! I do not believe in it though. I really only know like some of the gods and goddesses. I wish I knew a lot more though.

I love Greek Mythology.. :D Been a fan eveer since this schoolyear.. XD

My fave god(ess) is Eris.. ^^ So cool she actually started the Trojan War.. :p

Waaaaa. Fave Ilias character: AENEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAS!!

My fave are Artemis and Athena
Artemis cause shés a stong tomboy and is courageous (a true heroine)
Athena cause she´s smart and also a great heroine

Icarus was probably greek. Can't remember! I do remember the story though!

My favorite is Aphrodite! And yeah, Athena. Beauty and Brains :D

Icarus was a greek god? I thought he was the guy with the wings and he flew up so high in the sky he lost control and fell into the sea while his father? kept on flying. That's just the summary, :D

I like a lot of mythology,esp..the dryaids (sp.?),and Centaurs..but don't believe in it :D I first became facinated by "Jason and the Golden Fleese",in second grade.

Greek Mythology!!! I LOVE it!! Like two months ago, back in March, I printed aton of things about the whole mythology. about the heros, gods and goddesses. its so fascinating!!! I think Ill look into it more.

Hehe, we did a play about Jason and the Golden Fleese in 3th grade (of high school) and it was great:D

Are there people here who actually read things like the Odyssee and the Ilias in greek? I did parts i think, not completely (far too long:D)

Of course it's quite interesting.

First of all, to me is about the epic, and the background the oral traditions have taken a part in it, therefore, the exploits of the heroes and the legends, furthermore, the politics and philosophical matters on the Greek nation.

There are so many stories from them... but I think I'm getting strayed, and I'm not speaking about mythology:rolleyes:

Say, but here I go: One thing that keeps me trapped (and with some laughs and... intrigued) are the myths about the gods and goddesses, how they invented things, phrases and other stuff. But most of all, THEIR PROBLEMS!!! They're gods and are so overwhelmed not only by the humans, but by THEMSELVES!!!

Cheating, muders, revenge, curses, deviancy, immorality, megalomaniacs (the poor Hades, Pluto), tragic heroes, the epics (I love them all:D ) and... oh, goodness!! Bewildering sexual stuff and surprises. I don't stop to get surprised how sinful was Zeus (but some goddesses have their beauty). That is... I know why Hera is so vengeful.

One of my favourites in the Greek mythology is Palas Athenea (Minerva), as the goddess of knowlede (what's the owl all about) and as a heroine. I'm trying to link with the epic, and with the epic story I'm writing. Guess I have to work and read more.

Is anybody interested in Greek mythology? I was really infatuated with all the Greek gods and goddesses in 8th grade. (Note to mods: don't move this, claiming, "it's in the wrong section, blah, blah, BLAH... etc.," as we will not only be talking about Greek mythology, but also/mostly the books, i.e., The Iliad, The Odyssey, The Aneid, etc... :))

So, those of you that like Greek mythology have you read any of the books that I mentioned above? I've read all of those in 8th grade... my favorite was probably either The Iliad, or The Odyssey.

*revives old thread*

I'm so glad I found this thread because I love Greek mythology! My favorite myth is titled "Zeus and Europa".;)

oh i've never read that one... i'll have to.
have you read the iliad and the odyssey? i especially liked the iliad...

Man, the movie screwed up so badly. I mean, where was the apple! Or the Wedding scene where everything originates. I would've loved to see all the greek gods and goddesses interacting with each other. I would've loved to have seen Zeus refuse to choose which one was the fairest.

Oh yeah, I forgot. Hollywood doesn't believe in portraying higher powers other than themselves:rolleyes:

oh the newer one? i actually never saw it, because i heard it wasn't very good and i didn't want to get like "let down" haha.
i know i love that scene! it's one of the best, and i definitely agree with you about hollywood, haha.

have you seen the really old odyssey movie? i don't remember it that well bc i was really young when i saw it, but i remember thinking it was pretty good.

I read the Odyssey in the 8th grade and I LOVED it!! :)

Tiff-I actually thought the movie was okay, but you're right they messed up on a few of the details, some of which you mentioned.

oh yeah, hey i read them in the 7th grade! you should read the iliad too, if you haven't. :D
