Haters

BarbarianKing, if you like being teary-eyed: are you familiar with the hymn "There Is A Fountain Filled With Blood, Drawn From Immanuel's Veins"? That one will do it. But I may be biased; it was the hymn that my sister Tammi and I sang to my first wife Mary as Mary was departing from her body to enter Aslan's Country. No need to question which way Mary reacted when SHE caught sight of her Redeemer!

I don't recall hearing that hymn, but just reading the title made me cry out in Praises for that wonderful sacrifice. There are no words or smilies to convey what I am feeling now.
Whatever you think, technically, of the movie, you just have to love the message. How could you not?

MrBob, do you mean the bad reviews posted on imdb were from HP fans who just didn't want anyone to like Narnia? I never heard of such a thing! I like both of them, but for the films, I so far prefer LWW. I don't think the HP films have lived up to the potential of the books in general. I hope the CON series wil do beter.

(I do like the HP films; I just feel they could have been better.)

IMDB members in general can be very rude and very nasty with replies and comments. But out of the 100% it's only a very small number who are doing this.
I can't sleep any less if they don't like CoN. As long as I like it why should I care? We all have our own opinions and we can't like everything all the same. But I do hate it when people are getting very rude and try to force you to dislike a movie/book or whatever.

"MrBob, do you mean the bad reviews posted on imdb were from HP fans who just didn't want anyone to like Narnia?"

I think most of them are from HP trolls. There are some who have legitimate reasons for not liking the movie and I will not fault them for that. Not everyone has to like a certain film.

They didn't do it for any other reason other than to wreak havoc and cause trouble. When it first started, they were just posting flame bait, end-of-series spoilers as message titles, extremely rude comments as messase titles, etc. It may have started as animosity between a couple of HP and CoN fans, but it got out of hand. I can't say what happened on the HP boards as I don't go there. I haven't read the entire series yet and know I will run into spoilers I don't want to know about (although I do know who dies in the final books).

If you want to see some of the asinine, childish flaming that could have started everything, go to the most recent pages of LWW's IMDB page and look for the "Who's better looking Emma (Hermione) Watson or Anna (Susan) Poppelwell" thread. Look at the idiocy between NarniaRulesForever (and by the way, if you are here, you are not a good representative for us) and dgranger. By the way, in that thread, I chose two who were not listed: Georgie Henley and Bonnie Wright (Ginny).

MrBob

Whoa, that's bizarre. Who would be that involved in their favorite movies?

Oh well, if many of the bad reviews were just sour grapes from HP fans, that's not so disturbing.

I go to that website too sometimes. There's a neverending battle between Narnia fans and Harry Potter fans, each message board has fans from the opposing movie series that comes and spams in the other. HP fans like to go to the Narnia boards and bash the movies to try to make the Narnia fans mad and say how Narnia movies suck and HP movies are the best and blah blah blah. Some Narnia fans do the same things. I made a thread saying how immature it is and people need to grow up. Leave each message board alone and just discuss the movies as fans. Some people agree with me and some are the haters. I just try to ignore the haters and know that I am a Narnia fan no matter what anyone else says that might be negative. The haters are just trying to make the Narnia fans mad and the people are just immature. Here's something to make you feel better about it, whenever you see a hater post spam, just imagine Aslan coming to the rescue and putting those haters in their place. :)

It makes me sad to see such hurtful reviews. I'm a huge Narnia, Potter, LOTR fan, and I've seen scathing reviews of all the movies, with little or no factual evidence....

I' m a christian yeah, and no I do not 'impose my morality' and 'bible thump' or do any of those things that critics claim....

I know everyone has their own opinions, and I have mine, but if I say anything, its me who is being 'hurtful' 'prejudice' etc....

I don't... get it

UGH! I hate those reviews like that!! I try to ignore them..but they get me so fired up sumtimes! I think they just don't like Narnia cuz they're probably big Harry Potter fans or sumthing. And/or it's hard for people to accept Christianity when they're so biased. I dunno..that's what I guess!

So I'm home sick today and really bored...and one of my favorite things to do when I'm bored and/or procrasticnating is explore the Internet Movie DataBase http://imdb.com/ which is an amazing site. But I've never actually read the reviews/comments on The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. So I was like "Hm, what the hey" and read a good number of them. I have to say...I was appalled by some of the reviews. I know its because I love Narnia and I dont understand how someone could not like it. People commenting on "The pathetic CGI work" "The awful directing job" "The terribly untalented young actors" "The rididulous plot" "Dumb Fantasy" "Copy of Lord of the Rings" "Waste of Time and Money." Just to name a few of the main criticisms of the movie. One of the negative comments mentioned that LWW "is a great movie...if you're three years old or younger." Many reviewers were also bashing CS Lewis and his "uncreativity" "Brainwashing Christian ideals" and etc. This has been the first time I've ever seen such blatant criticism of Narnia and CS Lewis, although I know its nothing new. I guess my point is...
Why do you think some people hate Narnia with so much passion? Since everyone on here at least likes Narnia :) I thought it'd be interesting to see what y'all think

It's probably just Philip Pullman and Richard Dawkins signing in under lots of different usernames :D

My brother is a professial camera man and he HATES Narnia. He says for the budget they had, they could have done it 10 times better.

Being disappointed with the movie as a production is very different from rebelliously hating the good and valid things Mr. Lewis had to say about God and goodness. The movie DID have numerous flaws, though I'm still glad it was made.

For a small but significant detail: do you remember how Aslan's roar got swallowed up in the background when He appeared on the crag over the battlefield--instead of shaking the theater as it should have? I once heard a radio interview with a sound technician who had worked on the LWW movie; he said that they had produced a roar effect which WOULD have been all that Aslan's roar should be, but for God knows what stupid reason someone decided to muffle it.

I've never gotten very annoyed or anything if someone said they didn't like the movie, or--worse--they fell asleep while they were watching it. I mean, honestly, if I had only seen the movie, I probably wouldn't have loved it, either. But when people don't like the books, or say that they're poorly written, I am nearly heart broken. :p

Well, IMDB is full with members, who are, for some reason, frustrated and express their frustration with movie bashing. Some of them are snobs who think that only "The Godfather" and art movies should be praised; other are fans of other movies and react like fans of rival soccer teams and some are really unpleasant, like CF said.
Most of them are teens, however and are just stupid. BTW, my personal opinion of haters is very, very low. I don't respect them at all. They don't respect the work of other people, so I can't see why should I respect their opinion.

Yeah I guess you're right. I think it could have been a lot better but I don't hate it.

One thing I disliked about the movie was a less conspicuous, yet actually more important "violation" than making Aslan's roar weak. I refer to what they did with Professor Kirke--or DIDN'T LET HIM DO.

The scene in the book where the Professor tells Peter and Susan that they should take Lucy's report more seriously is actually HIGHLY important, because it demonstrates that it IS possible to think logical thoughts, to good purpose, about supernatural events. In the book, the Professor found it very significant that Lucy claimed to have been gone for a LONG time; he told Peter and Susan that, if Lucy were making it up, she should have stayed hidden for a long time to match the story she was going to tell. This point raised by the Professor also sets the reader up to appreciate the difference in time-streams. It would have been useful to uninitiated moviegoers, too.

But NO-O-O. The scriptwriter erased almost every bit of logical progression from the Professor's talk with the Pevensies, in favor of having him talk like someone in 2005--all about emotion. "She's your sister! You're a family!" Only in the kind of postmodern atmosphere we now live in could the statement "Lucy is your sister" be, in itself, a serious support for the statement "There is an alternate world reached by the wardrobe."

I didn't think of it like that, but you're right. I was only mad they cut that part because I like it, it's funny. :D The professor is a great character.
