"Dan's really shy," Jen said. "It's going to take him a little bit to get used to being around someone who likes him back. But you guys'll be cute together."

"Well in the school from where I came your teacher arrived to the rooms not like here, you have to arrive to the rooms, you have the same classmates all year and you don't have a time between classes to go to the locker, you have to do it on what we call recess" Suri replied

"Huh," she said. "It is different from here. Homeschooling is different too. My mom was the teacher, and I stayed in the same room the whole time. But new expiriences are good," she added, smiling again. "Do you know what you have next?"

Brendan's mom pulled up to the school, rolled down the window and said, "Don't beat anyone up, ok?" Brendan grinned, said, "Only if they deserve it". He walked into the school, and asked where he could find the principals room was. He knocked on the door, and was told to enter. "Excuse me miss, but I'm new?"

Dan blushed. "Hi," he said awkwardly. Jen coughed and walked towards the science classroom, smiling the whole way. When she stepped inside, she scoured the room for a familiar face. Finally, she sat down by a girl that had once helped her with her religious education homework.

Mrs. Freda Lewiston, the African-American principal, introduced herself to Brendan. "I hope we can all help you to settle in well. Do you have any particular problem or question?"

"Thank you Mrs. Lewiston. Uh, nope, no problems, just is there any way I could pick up my class schedule, and maybe a point in the direction of my next class?"

"I'll take you there myself," said Mrs. Lewiston, once she had checked on her computer where Brendan was supposed to be. Soon he was in class, Mrs. Lewiston telling the teacher that she had just been talking with the newcomer--her tone making it clear that this had not been a "talking to."

Meanwhile, Alipang's first class was English--one in which he was NOT advanced above his age. Although he could speak English perfectly, and read fairly well, he tended to choke up when writing. This was why Jason had lent him a grammar text.

She smiled " Same here this so cool," she told him, taking out her own note book.

"Yeah," he whispered as the teacher entered the room. "Be careful with this teacher she's very --"

The teacher (who was a slim, elderly lady with very formal, clean clothing), rapped her desk with a ruler for attention. The class slowly got quiet.

"--strict," Dan finished in a voice that was barely audible.
