Homeschooler's in High School

OOC: When Brendan gets to know Alipang, the two of them should hit it off excellently. But the well-meaning Mrs. Lewiston is stuck in an overage-hippie mentality, fond of saying "It takes two to fight," completely ignoring the fact that ONE person can make an unprovoked attack or threat.

About schedules: I put Alipang in sophomore English first period, but I can't yet say what his other periods are. He has three classes that no other sophomores I know of are in: senior history, senior biology and senior trigonometry. Of these, he has his dream girl Kim in trig and bio. So I have to agree with Kim-the-actual-person on when these two classes meet.

Just to prove it CAN be done, I have cruised along the recent pages, in order to compile a summary of character interactions on the first day.

A male English teacher seems easy-going; a female science teacher is strict and abrasive.

Nightfire's character Jennifer seems to be detached, impartial, observing things objectively.

Nothing can yet be reported of in-school interaction between Alipang and Kim, since Kim-the-actual-person hasn't been ON yet today. But Alipang made a new friend by protecting freshman Samuel Ashford from a bully. Sam in turn is likely to take an interest in Starflower's character Mandy, who has not yet been part of the action.

GentleVoice's character Chilena is now known to be under the guardianship of the dentist and his wife who are Alipang's adoptive parents. She is good friends with the Katons, as is her foster-brother Alipang. She is also becoming friendly with Jennifer...and rather MORE friendly, VERY rapidly, with Dan (the one whose parents are divorced).

Abby's character Callie has befriended Suri, the girl from Honduras. These two are in art class together, with Suri especially loving to draw. Meanwhile, Brendan, the boy who wants to attend Virginia Military Institute, arrived late for the first day, but the principal Mrs. Lewiston helped him get started. She is, however, going to be giving him a slightly self-righteous lecture about avoiding fights.

The character of Sarah has not yet DONE anything.

You're welcome; but now you and others SHOULD be able to write new entries which are CONSISTENT with what has happened so far.

Hannah, is this what you mean you're awaiting a reply to? (I can't account for Kay.)

She smiled " Al doesn't speak evey well of engish," she told him.

Shaking Dan's hand with a grip that was iron-firm yet not like an attack, Alipang casually told the taller boy, "My pulchritudinous foster-sister is utilizing an efficacious tactic of innocuous irony when she says that my declamatory talents in English are unprepossessing. The ontological reality of the matter is that _vocally_ I express myself more than adequately; it is in the sphere of _written_ language that I grow disoriented over syntax and conceptual construction."

ooc: I just had to post... WHAT??

OOC: That means, in simple words, that Alipang is NOT backward in SPEAKING English; I wrote an earlier entry in which I said that his problem was with WRITING it.

She hit her head " Oops sorry bro I for got he can speak engish but he can't write engish every well," she told him, placing her head on her brother's shoulder.

Alipang cradled Chilena in his hard-muscled arms, and kissed her forehead while saying a few affectionate words in their ancestral Tagalog language. Then, still holding his foster-sister close, he looked past her at Dan and said in perfectly friendly tones: "Chilena here may be a bit silly, but she is as dear to me as a blood sister. I would hate ever to see her be hurt or made sad by anything." Only in his eyes did the menacing steel show itself, and that in a restrained way.

She giggled " Al he won't hurt me," she told him, now in her brother's arms she played with his hands " But you can be a good brother and watch over me," she told him, kissing him on the cheek " Because I love you," she told him.

After kissing Chilena one more time, Alipang released her and changed the subject. "Dan, you already know that we're new here, as are some other homeschoolers coming in. Can you tell me if East High has an annual 'See You at the Flagpole' voluntary prayer event?"

OOC: If asking that question causes another tie-up in the RP action, just move the characters on, and we'll figure out retroactively what Dan's answer to Al was.

She rolled her eyes " Brothers," she said under her breath, she still played with his hands while Dan and Al talked " Hm," all she could say.

Meanwhile, Samuel Ashford, the black freshman whom Alipang had protected from a bully, heard a delicious female voice with a British accent, like something in a movie. He was just barely able to get a glimpse of the speaker, a beautiful white girl with brown hair, before the crowd forced them farther apart. He asked an older boy if he knew who she was.

"Name's Mandy," said the older boy. "She's British, or at least has lived there long enough to have the accent."

Sammy sighed. "I could spread that voice on bread and eat it for breakfast."

So Chilena, Dan and Alipang all went to where they had to go next.

Elsewhere, in some place haunted by those marvellous beings called Seniors, the new captain of the Falcons varsity football team, Jack Torinburg (next-younger brother of last year's senior captain, Mick Torinburg), was studying the menu. That is, he was scoping out all the girls as they came into view. He did this with a sense, almost, of _ownership;_ for what else _could_ it mean to be the football captain, if it didn't mean that any girl he wanted _must_ be his property?

As the little disturbance in the hallway dispersed, Brendan made his way to the principals office to recieve a much unanticipated talk on fights. All he could think of were the Rules of Engagement, he could corellate a movie to any situation he was in. He grinned at the thought
