Dan nodded, and walked to the vending machine. Jen stood up, excusing herself from Chilena and Suri, and walked up to Dan.

"Hey," she said. "Chilena really likes you."

Dan blushed. "I guess."

"Are you still running on Saturday?" she asked him.

"Well, I don't know," Dan admitted, sticking in a quarter. "I might have plans with Chilena..."

"But we've been doing that since we were eight!" Jen said, and pouted. "I feel like you're forgetting about our friendship when you're with her."

Dan sighed. "But I can't just dump her."

"Yeah, but I'd really like to still be your friend. Like the good days. A best friend." Jen said, and then walked back to the table.

Jen's cheeks began to burn, and she looked down at her food. She put her sandwich back into her bag; she didn't feel like eating. She felt like a complete idiot, but she DID want Dan to still be her friend... it felt like he was just ignoring her.

"Chilena, are you okay?" Dan asked as he came back from the vending machine.

"You alright? Where'd those two run off to?" he asked.

"Well, I think I just ruined my best friend's relationship, when all I wanted to do was tell him that I thought he was spending too much time with his girlfriend... I mean all I wanted to do today was at least talk to him, but he's been with Chilena all the time... I feel like I can't talk to him anymore... I feel like a disaster..." Jen sobbed.

Brendan put his arm around Jen (in the most friendlike way). "It'll be alright. You guy's are still best friends, you'll be able to work it out. It's not like you have a problem with Chilena, just that your having a little time adapting, it'll be okay Jen, don't worry."

"I still feel like a total idiot," Jen said, her voice cracking.

She laid her head on his shoulder " Why does she hate me Dan it isn't like I'm taking you away from her," she told him, hinding her face in his arm.

"She doesn't hate you," he reassured her. "I'm not sure... maybe she's just having an issue coping with me having more things to care about now, heh..."

"I feel like I did," Jen said, and wiped her eyes. "Thanks. Hey, where'd my Coke go?"

"You didn't. Uh, I don't know. Let me get you another." Brendan walked over to the vending machine, popped in a dollar and pushed the coke button. He grabbed it and brought it back over to the table for Jen.

" Oh, well if you want you can go run with her in the moring and then you can be with me It's not like I'm lock you up and throw away the key or anything," she told him, looking up at him.

"Thanks," she said. "You didn't have to do that." I wonder why he's being so nice... I wonder... no... well... hm... I hope..
