Hopes for VDT....for people anticipating the release on DECEMBER 10 2010

has anyone else taken note that they have changed the voice actor for reep, it was Eddie Izzard in PC....now they have Bill Nighy doing it.....not that i dont like Bill Nighy quite the oppisit but shouldn't they keep the same actor if possible...i know Eddie Izzard probably didn't want to do another one after the Fail of PC but any ways...im not realy trying to have a winge...just an observation i made

Yes, I did notice that (there's not much Narnia-related that I DON'T notice  :p). And while I'm a bit upset, b/c Eddie Izzard was amazing and because I'm somewhat afraid that Reep will sound too noticeably different, I do think Bill Nighy will do a good job. Let's hope Reep just doesn't sound too completely different...but I'm sure Nighy can pull it off quite well :)

I was worried about it at first. But I don't think it will be too noticeable. It was mentioned on another forum that perhaps they wanted a more mature sounding Reep. idk. I will miss Eddie as Reep but I don't think it will ruin the movie for me.

Well it sounds like it may be ok. I could go along with a slight change in voice accounting for "Reepicheep maturing" a little. Which brings me to ask, was his age ever mentioned in the books (not that I know the average life expectancy of mice anyway), but was he supposed to be an adolescent mouse or an adult in PC? :p

He must be a grown-up. But you know, his prophecy was made by a naiad, right, or a dryad? And they all had gone away during the Telmarine rule, so he had to be pretty old, having been born at a time when the naiads and dryads were still active. Remember, they're not active in PC until Aslan awakens them.

Right - it had been 3 years between PC and VDT, but there's no mention of Reep being an elderly mouse in VDT, which he would be if Narnian mice only live 2-3 years ... They must live a normal human lifetime, maybe? But still, it would have been hundreds of years since there was a dryad or naiad. That doesn't really make any sense.

Good point! I never noticed that. Well, since Reepicheep evidently couldn't have been hundreds of years old (or I would guess so---how long do Talking Beasts live, anyway?), maybe it was an apparition or something.

OK, other hopes of mine:

That the dufflepuds will be as hilarious in the film as they are in the book. I mean, such lines as "What I always say is when a chap's hungry, he likes some victuals," and such recountings (by Coriakin) of the dufflepuds treking miles to retrieve water from a spring, passing along a stream the whole way or of them boiling potatoes prior to planting them (to save time of course), such things, are simply hilarious. The dufflepuds have to be handled right to get the biggest laugh.

As I've said before, I greatly anticipate the Deathwater Island sequence of events.

I hope the entrance to Narnia will be amazing, and I really believe it will. The description in the book is magnificent, describing the smell and cold of a salty sea and wind blowing books across the room.

I also hope the merpeople and their kingdom will be shown and that they will be visually complex and intriguing (the mermaids at the end of LWW were a little too skittish, at least in their jumping/flipping)

I can't wait to see the Duffers...that is just going to be hilarious :p

And for the scene in which the kids get swept into the sea at the beginning, I did hear something about them having filmed that under 24 ft. of water or something crazy like that, so it's bound to be amazing :D

Awesome! Can't wait to see that scene, where they're swept into the sea through a picture frame. If it's really done well, I may faint ... or at least start crying like I did in LWW during the blitz. Because I'm lame!!!!

i have high hopes too...iv seen the ship for the film...and it looks just like i imagined it would i also think they will keep the fans happy in this film...am going to see the ship again on sunday hopfuly...they are filming right now so i want to check it out...(cant pass on the opertunity to see a piece of the BIG BUDGET FILM when its being filmed on my back doorstep...or 40 mins drive away) lol

Talk about SWEETNESS!!! I'd love to join you in doing that.=p

Lewis ).....

was a great day

SO I've read a good number of rumors from various insider sources and it sounds like one of Narnia's big competitors, "The Green Hornet" may be in trouble. Sounds like Sony isn't happy with what they've seen and isn't keen on promoting it.

If these rumors are true, that edges out some of the competition. It could mean Narnia's biggest competion will be Tron 2. Hopefully that will be to VODT what the King Kong remake was to LWW.

Well, I've seen the Tron trailer and it doesn't look that good. Trailers are supposed to be exciting but this one wasn't at all like that and it doesn't make me want to watch it. So I guess VODT has an even better chance. Tron will probably be worse than the remake of King Kong.

Now, if they'd make a Donkey Kong movie, then there would trouble!:D

Right. It's not like Tron has the following of Star Wars, Indiana Jones or Star TRek. Those have two generations, if not three ( maybe in the case of Trek four) of fans going into them. At the video store I work at it seems that for every ten people how come looking for Star Wars, Indy, or Star Trek, one person comes for Tron, if at all.

And now it is official that one of VODT's other competitiors is out: Green Hornet has been pushed a month back. The studio wants to convert that to, yes 3-D. In terms of family viewing now Narnia will just be going against Yogi bear ( if box office indicators are anything the live action films of Flintstones and Scooby Doo have not done well.) and Gulliver's Travels. As much as I may enjoy Jonathan Swift's novel, does it even have the fan basis of Narnia or LOTR?

I don't beleive that Narnia would have too much competition. There will always be friends of Narnia! Anyway, I don't think we should worry to much about any other "competitive movies" :):)
