I love Harry Potter, and Lord of the Rings, but Lord of the Rings are much better books and movies, sorry. :p They have a much richer history, backstory, and characters. But I also love Harry Potter, so I'm not picking on it, just saying Lord of the Rings is better.
 
I definately go for LotR. HP is very much a touchy subject at my house, and probably on the Internet, so I won't tell ya'll how much we it.
 
Lord of the Rings! :D I love both Harry Potter and LotR (I actually used to hate Harry Potter, but now I really like it) but LotR is way more of an epic in my opinion. Yes, it's harder to read, but...so? It's such a classic and Tolkien has put so much thought into every single thing, not to mention the diverse cultures of Middle-Earth. It's mind-blowing.
 
I really like Harry Potter, but the LOTR is a whole different type of epic than Harry Potter. Both are fantasy, but yet a different genre within the fantasy realm. Mists of Avalon, King Arthur, the new Eragon, and Narnia are in the same league with LOTR. Harry Potter is outside somewhat of epic fantasy. That is not a cut on Harry Potter. I loved the books and the films, but they are different from each other in a great many ways.
 
Oh, totally LOTR. Tolkien was a brilliant person.
I watched three of the Harry Potter films and... though there were some funny parts, It was all poorly done.
