Is the movie faithful to the book?

Some parts were and some parts weren't. I think it's fun to compare books and movies but I wouldn't complain and say this movie sucks because it wasn't exactly like the book. This movie is my favorite so far and I like it just the way it is. :)

Are you kidding? The LWW is one of the most faithful Adaptations ever.

Aside from some dialogue the only changes were...additions

1. The bombing of Loundon, though this is very good since it sets up a back story for the Pevensies.

2. The waterfall scene

3. Mr. Tumness and Edmund in prison

4. The removal of the scene where the Witch turns into a stump

5. the fox getting frozen when not telling the location of the children, instead of it being during a Christmas dinner.

6. the battle is longer.

LWW was good, but PC really changed a lot! Caspian was supposed to be a kid! I was so disgusted when he turned out to be an adult in the movie. And Peter just wasn't Peter. And Caspian and Susan together?

The difference between the two films is as if one orchestra tried a few changes of instrumentation to play a Beethoven symphony, while another orchestra played a Britney Spears song and CLAIMED it was a Beethoven symphony. The Caspian movie changed the CONTENT in disastrous ways, because its makers did not care squat about the spirit of Narnia.

Hmm I think they did care some about the spirit cause they showed that in the first film. I think in film two, the director was keeping fairly true to the book for the first 35 minutes.

Caspian escapes Miraz's castle after Dr. Corneilus wakes him and says Prunaprismia has had a son. He runs into the Narnians and blows the horn. He then becomes leader of the Narnians in their attempt to stop Miraz. The Pevensies do the exact same thing, explore the ruins, meet Trumpkin, try to find Caspian, get stuck at the Gorge where Lucy claims to see Aslan, the others don't believe her, they go a different route and get in trouble, they go back and find a safe way down. While the others are sleeping Lucy leaves and finds Aslan herself.....

then things go cur-fluie once we realize that it was only a dream.

Caspian attacks Peter, a bad start to a uh...friendship....Peter suggests the Night Raid, Caspian abandons the plan and rescues the doctor and awakens Miraz, the whole thing gets messed up and several Narnians die. Then Peter and Caspian get angry at each other. Then Nikabrik and co. actually begin to resurect the White Witch and Pete and Caspian almost agree with it....thankfully Ed saves the day. Peter and Caspian make amends, Susan and Caspian start fliriting, and Peter and Miraz have a fight to the death duel. Lucy rides to "the Darkest Parts of the forest" with susan, but they get attacked and Susan acts like some warrior Queen and kills 10 soldiers...but then a soldier nearly kills her...untill she is rescued by Caspian(I almost thought she would say "Oh my Hero!"). Peter wins the duel, but Sopesian kills Miraz and blames the Narnians for treachery and a huge fight begins. FINNALLY LUCY FINDS ASLAN AND HE SHOWS UP!!! Aslan wakes the trees and the river god to win the battle and everyone parties at the end. Then Susan kisses Caspian good bye, and the kiss is followed by a pop song.

So really once they connected the two stories at an earlier point in the film, the entire flow of the story changed.

Agreed. In retrospect, after the dream of Aslan, things change drastically. There are salvageable parts of the plot, like the White Witch actually appearing, but the lack of Dr. Cornelius and Trufflehunter in the scene hurts its flow, in a way. Plus Lucy trying to take down Nikabrik, and then having Trumpkin save her doesn't quite work (Quote about girls participating in battle :p).

Peter getting tempted by the Witch actually adds an element of temptation given the current situation of belief (over Aslan), which works. However, this scene would have worked just as well if it had the Pevensies first arriving at the How, as it was in the book.

*To self* Why am I suddenly in creative mode? It's too late to rewrite the script! But I want to; I know what to do! Make it more about Caspian's emotional and personal journey, not the kids!!! NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!:D

Sorry about that, my brain's creative gears are turning. *MUST WRITE IT ALL DOWN!!!!*

Since there will be new people seeing this, I repeat:

The very first scene in the Caspian movie that featured the Pevensies was one of the WORST things in the whole script: Peter being FALSELY portrayed as an idiot who BOTH started a fight AND lost it. All the phony excuses offered for this insult to the character and the author are just that, phony. The REAL motive was one which is epidemic in the film industry--the desire to pull down and besmirch what is noble, as if they made a movie about George Washington in which Washington spent the whole Revolutionary War crying for his mommy.

I so agree with CF ... outrageous what they did to Peter. Caspian being so dumb for his age also didn't do any service to his character.

But are we talking about LWW in this thread? The few changes they made to LWW in the film, I thought, really enhanced it, like the fox, the chase from the wolves on that icy river, the WW appearing in the How, etc.

The one change I didn't like in LWW was that they reduced Aslan's part to sort of a side player, and the kids were the real heroes. That was too bad.

I think it cAN be good to change some stuff (I know they changed a lot of stuyff) but if they stick to the book, you already know what's going to be in there, and there will be nothing intersting for the story, but a movie is nothing without a story, it's interestin,g to compare the book and the movie of PC, look, because of tat we have long debates, isn't that a good thing, if there was nothing to say about that, we spoilers would be bored ;)

That is one of the things I like better in the Prince Caspian movie. It showed that the kids COULD NOT WIN EVER without Aslan. It showed that he was extremly important. In the LWW he was just a great guy who could do many great magic tricks. IN PC he was more godlike.

That's true -- that is one point better made in PC than LWW ... but it belonged in LWW as much as in PC. :(

Historical accuracy in a movie with a historical setting? What /are/ you thinking, my fellow Ink ;)?

LOL -- I know! :)

In LWW they actually did better at this than PC ... Peter in PC acted like a totally 21st-Century kid.

LWW was rather faithful to its original story. It wasn't the most accurate adaptation (both the BBC and the Animated worked to stick much closer to being a direct adaptation) but it was still quite close. The added scenes did not detract from the story, but fit in nicely with the story. The special effects of the Walden LWW are what really make it stand out.

So I guess since I have rambled without going anywhere for this whole post I'll just say that the Walden LWW is rather faithful to the book, and doesn't actually tread on any shaky ground in terms of plot holes and misused plot devices.

In LWW i noticed that they changed alot of little things and it made it seemed like LOADS changed. Like instead of saying son of adam alot they said peter or whatever- They changed the shape of the stone table and people switched lines. BUT! i still love love narnia :D

BBC is definitely more faithful to the book, and made better movies, in my opinion. The Walden ones are just too flashy and rely too much on computer graphics, plus the whole scene where Father Christmas chases them across the frozen lake in LWW kinda P.O'd. me.
The new Prince Caspian movie was sort of a joke to me...I watched the first half hour and had to turn it off because I was laughing.
