Is the movie faithful to the book?

>> The new Prince Caspian movie was sort of a joke to me...

Calingaladha, I'm glad to find another audience member who _doesn't_ think that flashy effects justify everything. The second movie's determined campaign to make Peter look _inferior_ to Caspian _infuriated_ me, and no amount of CGI made up for it.

I also agree. Although the Walden people did a better job on LWW than on Prince Caspian. I hate how Peter seems to be some sort of snot nosed brat instead of a King of Narnia and how Susan and Caspian had a romantic relationship. It really ticked me off. I just hope they can do a better job with VDT.

M-W-4-L, there used to be a thread on TDL called "Losing the Concept of Virtue." I started it precisely because of the way Walden _needlessly,_ indeed counterproductively, chose to degrade the moral stature of King Peter. If you can find it archived, it might be worth your study.

I agree. I dislike how much they tried to "modernize" the story to find a larger audience. Lewis wrote the books his way, and the way they change the story and add stuff makes it nearly a completely different story than what Lewis wrote.

Overall I didn't mind how LWW was done with one major exception. The thing that I minded the most in the whole film was the way the kids got into Narnia and I don't mean through the wardrobe. I didn't like at all the fact that in the film they were running from McReady because they'd done something wrong and didn't want to be caught. That was in direct opposition to the character of Peter. Then, in the extended edition, he was even slightly joking about it. They were supposed to be fleeing McReady because she had a tour going on in the house and they were not to be seen. This change did not give more depth to the characters, but rather it lessened the characters in my mind and sort of cheapened them...particularly Peter.

I did miss Aslan's joyful time with the girls after his resurection as well, but I could handle the way filmed it.

There was a complaint that there wasn't more in the way of Aslan and it was said that he was too expensive to have on too much. If this is the case, I'd rather see them put more funds into Aslan and not have things like the ice river scene that didn't happen in the book. If they stick to the book scenes first and then see what they need to add that is left over and still within the spirit of the characters and story, then fine. Adding the unnecessary and leaving out great bits is not something the fans will be ok with in future films.

I would have liked to see Aslan leap over the walls to the White Witch's palace when he went to destone the Narnians. I guess it would have been too complicated or fakey, but I thought that would have felt fun, almost 3D if they'd done it right.:)
Also, I wasn't too attracted to Aslan's voice. It didn't sound like I had imagined, and it didn't really match the Lion...My personal opinion on that one, although I've changed my mind a little bit after watching the movies more.

Stop saying Peter was the bad one, when its Caspian who screwed up the Night Raid.

Also, when the kids came to help Caspian seemed more dissapointed that they arrived, not happy.

They gave the kids totally differant personalitys.Peter was too bossy, and Susan was a know-it-all.I thought that ruined the movie.
In LWW you thought this? I thought they did pretty well with the characters in LWW, except for the one or two lines that they switched from Susan to Peter ...

I thought they did ok in LWW, but in PC I think I would kind of agree. Peter was definitely too mean, and I think the romance between Susan and Caspian was a mistake.

Actually Peter and Caspian BOTH screwed up the raid. Caspian shouldn't have been in Miraz's room was the first mistake and Peter not calling off the raid while there was time was the second. Also I aways thought Edmund in that scene messed up too. I mean he knew the entire castle had been awakend why didn't he give the signal to call it off? Also I personaly like to think of PC as an entire seprate movie not really even coping the book at all. They stuck to the book about um maybe twice in PC.

And I don't see how much more like the book you could get in LWW, I mean my cousin (who I have now learned is picky about how they make movies and how faithful they are to the books, which is not all bad) even really liked it. And I don't see how much closer you could get to the book, save taking out the river scene (which I love) and adding like Aslan playing with the girls (which I also love) and going to the Witch's castle and switching a few lines. ;)

I agree with you. PC movie was more or less nothing like PC book, and LWW was a good deal like LWW movie. Like you I loved the river scene, and I also liked how they did the hag/werewolf scene -- and like you, I would have liked to see Aslan's romp with the girls after his resurrection more in the movie. Plus I thought they should have made Aslan more of THE main character in LWW movie; the movie focused so much on the kids, it was like he was their helper, when in fact he was the king.
