More...because there were too many words
"Hey, you two, can we join you?" Trace called out to the two in the water, once he and Pyralis were in their swim suits and standing on the beach looking out at Pye's sister and her boyfriend in the ocean.
"Sure." Chakra called back. She had her arms wrapped around Saeran's neck, as she was on his back.
Pyralis, wearing her black bikini with blue flames on it, laid her towel out on the sand and laid her cover-up and sandals on it. Taking Trace’s hand she followed her husband out into the water, which she wasn’t very partial to.
“Calm down, Pyralis, you’re not going to die.” Saeran teased her, laughing at her scrunched up face.
“Hey, be nice, she’s sensitive.” Trace defended his wife, pulling the reluctant woman, who could control fire—you know the opposite of water?--against him. Pyralis gave him a weak smile. “It’s not going to hurt you, Baby. You’ve been in it before.”
“I know that.” Pyralis grumbled. “Uh-oh.” Her frown grew into a full scowl.
“What? Oh crap!” Saeran noticed what her frown was for over her shoulder. Jason Stephenson and a couple of his friends were walking their way up the beach. Jason had a tendency to pick on them. He heard Chakra’s whimper at his ear, out of all of them Chakra was the one he hurt the most. Jason was also Chakra’s ex-boyfriend.
“Easy.” Trace warned them. He wrapped both arms around his wife and pulled her close to him.
“Hey, losers, are you having a meeting?” Jason called out to them. “I don’t want to interrupt.” Some of his friends snickered. “I didn’t know you believed in swimming, I would think it would melt you, or something.”
“Go away, Jason.” Trace said back to him. “I really don’t think you want to go down this path.” He warned.
“Oh, and why not? Who’s going to do something about it? You? I know that wouldn’t work.” Jason retorted.
The water around Trace was getting very hot. “Cool it, Pye.” He whispered in his wife’s ear as he rubbed his hand up and down her back. “I didn’t say I would, but if I have to I will.” He called to Jason who still stood on the beach.
“Are you not going to say anything, Chakra? Hi, or anything?” Jason questioned the girl.
“I really don’t have anything to say to you, Jason, but I guess I will give you this advice.” Chakra slipped off of Saeran’s back and moved around him. “Take Trace’s advice. Don’t start this. You won’t win.” She said. “Though I know you think you will.” Her eyes flashed, dark clouds began to form in the sky overhead.
Trace had to let go of Pyralis before she overheated him. The water around them had already started to bubble, and steam rose into the air. Pyralis’s eyes flamed as she stared at the group on the beach.
“And what makes you think I won’t?” Jason crossed his arms as he yelled out at them.
“You never have before.” Saeran grabbed a hold of Chakra’s arms from behind. He looked over at Trace who jerked his head in the direction of the beach, and the house beyond. Saeran nodded. “Come one we’re going to the house. Just ignore them.” He whispered in his girlfriend’s ear.
“Pye.” Trace reached for his fuming wife. Pyralis cooled down enough for Trace to touch her and she let him walk with her up to the beach.
“You’re giving up before anything has started?” Jason asked as they reached the beach.
“We’re not starting anything.” Saeran hissed, his anger boiling at the man. “You are. And we don’t want to have to end it.” He warned.
“Oooh.” Jason faked fear, his friends echoing him. “We just want to play.”
Trace rolled his eyes. “How immature can you get?” He muttered. “What a jerk.”
“What did you call me, Trace?” Jason asked stepping towards them, his anger starting to rise. Though, nothing compared to Pyralis’s.
Trace turned towards Jason, who now stood a foot away from him. “I called you an immature jerk, Jason. Prove me wrong.” Trace challenged.
Jason laughed. “You call me immature? I’m not the one who’s married to a chick who plays with fire, and thinks she’s a princess.” He threw the taunt directly at Pyralis.
“That’s it!” Pyralis snapped, and stomped towards the leader, the edges of her brown and orange streaked hair ignited.
“Pyralis!” Trace called after her but she ignored him. Trace knew how lethal his wife could be, and he didn’t want anything bad to happen, even if it was to Jason.
Pyralis stopped an inch away from Jason and looked up into his now fearful eyes. “You want to play with fire, Jason?” She asked, she placed one hand on the boys arm. “Cause we can.” She threated, her eyes blazed. She stepped back from him, a small smile on her lips.
“Dude, you’re on fire!” One of Jason’s friends called out seeing the small flame at the edge of Jason’s t-shirt.
Jason looked down and yelped. He immediately fell to the sand and rolled. Once the fire was out he stood up and looked back at Pyralis and her group. “What are you trying to do?” He yelled.
“What you asked for; to play.” Pyralis replied.
The sand around Jason grew hot, and the sun had been behind the rain clouds long enough to cool it. He started dancing from one foot to the other as the heat intensified. “Ouch.” He hissed, as he tried stepping on a cooler patch of sand but found none
“Pye.” Trace spoke up behind her.
Pyralis backed the heat down with a sigh. “You’re turn.” Pyralis cocked her head slightly to one side as she looked at her opponent.
Jason shook his head. “You’re a freak.” He looked at all four of them. “All of you.” His gaze rested on Chakra. Lightning flashed overhead. Jason blinked sure he had seen the lightning flash in Chakra’s eyes. “We’ll see you later.” He turned and walked with his group down the beach.
“What a bunch of freaks.” They heard several of the girls say.
“Baby?” Trace said, once the group was out of hearing range. Pyralis crumbled to the sand. Trace took the few steps to her, and knelt down beside of her. He knew getting made fun of, especially getting called a freak, was one of the things Pyralis hated most. He lifted his wife’s chin, tilting her face up, hot tears scored down her cheeks. “I love you.” He whispered. “Please, don’t believe what he said.” He gently kissed her tears, and then her lips. Both were warm. “You are so special to me, and I wouldn’t trade you for anyone in the world.” He looked at her tear filled eyes. “Don’t forget that. Ever.”
“I won’t.” Pyralis mumbled. She lightly kissed him. “I love you too.” She said.
“Come on.” Trace said, as he slipped his arms under her back and legs and lifted her off of the sand.
“Thank you.” Pyralis said to him, as she listened to the beating of his heart.
“That’s what I’m for.” Trace told her. He carried her in the house behind Chakra and Saeran. He didn’t set her down until they were in their bedroom, with the door close. Once there he pulled her close and kissed her deeply, wrapping his arms around her thin waist.
Saeran sat down with a shaking Chakra on the couch. “It’s OK. They’re gone; they can’t do anything to us anyway.” He tried to soothe her. He rubbed his hand up and down her back. “I promise.” He pulled her close against him, and continued to massage her back. It had started to rain outside, large drops of rain pounded against the house. He planted a kiss on the top of Chakra’s blond head. “Do you want to watch a movie?” He asked, hoping to distract her.
Chakra nodded. “Mmm-hmm.” She answered, wanting her mind to be on a different subject. Saeran stood up and went to pick out a movie from the huge selection on the shelves. “I don’t care what it is. Something happy.” Chakra told him from her place on the couch.
“OK, something happy.” Saeran repeated, letting his eyes roam over the many titles of films, his fingers sliding over the cases as he searched.
“Do you want something to eat?” Chakra asked. “A snack? Or a meal?” She stood and stepped over to him.
“A snack is fine. Thank you.” Saeran replied still searching the movies.
“Is popcorn OK?” Chakra asked.
“Yeah, that’s fine. Sounds good.” Saeran still hadn’t looked at her as he spoke.
“OK.” Chakra turned to head towards the kitchen.
“Shock.” Saeran called to her, placing his hand on her arm. Chakra turned back to look at him. “Thank you.” He smiled sincerely at her and gave her arm a light squeeze.
Chakra smiled back. “You’re welcome.” She squeaked out, and walked to the kitchen. Finding a box of popcorn, she pulled out one of the packages, and opened it. After grabbing a bowl from one of the cabinets she headed back to the living room, where Saeran had started a movie in the DVD player. The front menu played on the screen. “The Fox and the Hound?” She asked naming the old Disney movie.
“Yep.” Saeran nodded when she sat down next to him. He laughed at the popping bag of popcorn in her palm, the kernels popping from the energy surging through Chakra’s hand. “It still amazes me when you do that.” He told her.
Chakra sat back against the cushions. “I know.” She said. Once the bag was done popping she opened it and poured the contents into the bowl. They munched on the snack and started the movie.
