MERGED thread on Comments re: TV spots, trailers & publicity stills

I just noticed something in the trailer. In the scene when Edmund is holding his sword it looks a lot like Peter's sword (which I own a replica of).

Peter's sword is also seen in the trailer when it is used by King Caspian in a battle with the slave traders. I wonder what the explanation is of why the sword is glowing? This seems unusual because it is not connected to the seven swords of the seven lords.

This scene looks like it will take place on the dark island because the background shows green myst. I think that the White Which scene could work if it were a small part on the dark island. She could be Edmund's nightmare. I wish they did not bring her back as a nightmare because I feel like Edmund's character has moved on past his temptation with the White Which. I loved the scene in Prince Caspian where Edmund stabs the witch. I thought that this completed his character struggle as a victory over her.

whats a lightsaber doing in narnia? i did narnia and starwars crossover?

Or Sting.:p That'd be Lord of the Rings at least. Or the Sword of Geburah.

I never noticed it was Peter's sword before.... Indeed it is though- I too have a replica of it. Or its a sword that looks very much like Peter's, I doubt it though- you can see the blur that marks the words on the sword toward the bottom. Very strange it is, very strange....

Hmm, are glowing swords now the popular trend in movies(and books) or something?

It looks more like sting than a light saber. I wonder if Caspian will use Peter's sword in the entire film or if Edmund is given it. It seems like Caspian's character has developed where he is accustomed to being in charge of things. There may be character conflict when Edmund and Lucy return and he isn't the only Narnian King. We saw this in the book when they were arguing at death water island. Caspian may view himself as the leader and keep the sword or he may give it to Edmund because it belonged to his brother. It may be that this is not Peter's sword and it is just very similar.

It seems not even Narnia can escape from Middle Earth's shadow. A glittering blue sword you say? Sting prehaps? Nay it tis Rhindron, it glows blue when ogres are close by. XD

Eustace's Dragon Form:

I hath recently seen the new VODT poster and featured on it is Eustace in dragon form. I must confess that I'm not impressed. He is nothing like how I imagined. In fact I dare say he has Jar Jar Binks quality to his face. :(

Sadly, I have to agree. :( Still, it could be worse. I half expected him to look like he'd stepped out of an animated Disney cartoon.

It's always possible that that shot isn't even in the movie....

Personally I think everybody is getting a little too "over reactive", if that's the right term. We don't even know what's in and what's not in the movie.

He didn't look that way in the trailer. Poster shots can be deceiving, so don't get upset over it just yet. Wait until the movie comes out before making a judgment call. I don't like how he looks on the poster either, but poster shots are usually NOT the final result.

I don't like Lucy in the poster either because she looks fake and computer generated, yet I know that from the trailer, she won't look that way.

As a dragon I think they could have done better and it looked the same to me in the trailer as in the poster. Though no one is making a judgment call, I think we have the right to talk about our disapointments. True, bad dragons are no reason to not support VoDT. In the film maker's defense, they do have to compete for originality with other dragon forms that have been used for recent films like Eragon, Avatar, Beowulf, and other movies with dragons.
The dragon form itself was never a real concern for me though. I do hope the undragoning scene is done right.

I agree with AK - that's far too scant evidence from which to be drawing conclusions. Besides, with dragon forms you have a lot of latitude. Lewis' descriptions are scant and could apply to any dragon (scaly skin, bat wings, claws, etc.) Even Pauline Baynes, who drew the illustrations in the book, was only giving her interpretation of what Eustace the Dragon looked like. To me, the form of the dragon is one place where the filmmakers could have pretty much free rein without affecting the story at all.

As Largo points out, the question of how Eustace loses his dragon form, whatever it ends up looking like, is of far more important. The Undragoning of Eustace is one of the pivotal points of the story, and key to a pivotal theme not only of Dawn Treader but the entire Chronicles of Narnia. If they screw that up, I'll probably walk out of the theater.

I'm reminded somehow of a time when I drew a picture of a Chinese dragon for the benefit of some Asian acquaintances. I know for certain that my drawing was at least generally like their standard image of snaky, antlered dragons; but my "critics" were extremely nit-picky. Because my dragon was not ONE HUNDRED PERCENT identical to the classical pictures, they turned up their noses and claimed they couldn't even recognize my drawing as having anything to do with Chinese dragons.

Aravis is right. You can't make judgments based on a poster. Look at Lucy and Jadis! They definitely won't look like that in the film; we know that from the trailers. And to be honest, this doesn't even look like an official poster. It almost looks fan-made. Do we know where this was found?

Reepicheep looks like he has a big, cheesy grin on his face, like the :D smiley. (Unless, of course, that white stuff is really his chin or something. But it does look like his teeth.)

I do agree that this poster has a "photoshopped" look to it.

You're right about Reep. I hadn't noticed until you mentioned it, but he does look like Mr. Green! :D

Specter posted that it's an official poster, but to me it seems doubtful...I don't know for sure though. There may be different variations that come out later on.

Agreed; Reep looks ridiculous in the poster. If it is from Fox, it's a bad poster and whoever created it should be fired, IMHO.

I'm frankly getting resentful over words being put in my mouth. I'm not making judgements, I'm pointing out a disspointment. I am entitled to my opinion and I find it offensive that people jump to conclusions over the motivations of other members. Assuming afterall only makes you a.. donkey.

For the record I am in full support of Michael Apted and this film. Anyone that draws people to such a fantastical world, a splendid realm such as Narnia should be commended.

NObody is condemning you, or even trying to put words in your mouth. I'm personally disappointed over the Witch being in the movie (again), but looking forward to the film. IF Eustace does indeed look as silly as his picture on the poster, then that will be something that I will be disappointed over as well, but everything on the poster looks kinda fake. I don't know if that's intended or not. Everything on it looks like a bad photoshopping job, and I think they should have stuck with the more simple posters that promoted LWW and PC.
