Mod Q&A Thread II

However it appeared to be somebody with a name. See, I used to come on here a lot as a visitor before I had joined and I didn't show up at all. And there is always a number of people that are viewing as visitors and they don't show up on the list.

Once again, I myself am not completely sure...I'd have to ask another mod.

does the mod loung ever have open houses? is it for sale?:D

No, it doesn't. And No, it's not.:p

Do the curtains have some sort of pattern on them or something? You know like, really ugly flowers or hideous pictures of parrots or something? And how many times have they caught on fire over the years? :D

Yes, They have yellow fire-hydrants on them. And no, these have never caught on fire, but there is a window by HB's lounge chair that used to have green plaid curtains on them...we still haven't found the arson.

I have a question...How long do you have to be a member to become a "Friend of Narnia"? And what do all the different titles higher than moderator mean? How does one become a moderator?

-To become a 'Friend of Narnia', a member has to have 1000 posts. You could be a member for years, but you can't become a Friend of Narnia until you've reached 1000.

-The only titles higher than a normal moderator (like myself) are Admin and Royal Guards.
Specter is the Admin (Green name), and he controls the entire site. He can basically do anything that can be done on the forum.

Royal Guards are Moderators who can change User Names for members (Purple names). I believe they stil have normal Mod abilities, as well.

To become a mod, one must be a "long standing, and respected member that "Shows maturity and an understanding of the forum, its' rules and members".
There is a "Don't Ask to be a Mod" rule that's been buried in the threads. I figure I should bring it back up here.
Basically, if you want to become a mod, don't ask Specter to become one; he usually does not take requests.
But Don't worry: If you're Mod Material, we'll find you.;)

Q: (Well, it's actually a suggestion, but since the 'Suggestion Box and Questions' thread doesn't appear to recieve any attention from the mods, I figured I might as well post it here.) Anywho... why don't you guys add to the 'New Member Guide' that you have to be a Junior Member (as opposed to Fresh Bread) to have an avvy/siggy?

I think user notes are to let you know what other people think of you. You can only read your own user notes, but you can post user notes to any other person. I'm not sure if Mods can read other peoples' user notes.

is it more fun being a mod than it was before you where??

I'm not sure...I haven't been a mod long enough to know, really...
Although, it is rather annoying when people treat me super different.
ok, so what are user notes for?

Olorin pretty much has it right.

And Yes, Mods can view other members user notes.

Now Chelsea...it's good to play with Olorin on a regular basis...it's more fun and exciting. That, and if we didn't he'd get way bored.

Depends on what you consider fun...there are some aspects of both being a mod and not being a mod that are fun...it's a trade off. But as a mod you have to work and not play all the time. It's an actual extra job that takes time. Sure you can do stuff, but there's often a lot to do. Some days you can play. It's nice to be part of the team though.

I did add that to one of those threads a week ago or so I think.

Hope that helps. It was covered in one of the new member threads...I think HB's FAQ thread. All of those threads need to be read by new members.

To clarify on the above posts:

The Narniafans New Member Guide is not intended nor was it ever intended to be read by all new members before they post. That would be intimidating. Instead, it is to help all the members, old and new, in case they have problems on the forum. (I know this because I wrote it. Hence my constant edits :p)

You are expected to read the General FAQ before posting a question, because that thread might have the answer to your question. It would be helpful to read before posting so you understand the lingo and slang used on the forum. However, it's not required

The TDL Forum Etiquette is required reading before you post. It is probably the best explaination of the rules we have had, so please read it. You cannot claim ignorance on forum rules because this thread spells out all the rules. (Hint: Read that thread!)

I hope this helps.

Thanks, HB. That serious post of yours almost gave me a heart attack, though... I mean, HB? Serious? Those two words just don't fit together. :p

Q: Can banned members log in?
