Mod Q&A Thread II

I'm having problems staying logged out...like I'll click Log Out, then return to the index, and I'm logged back in! Any ideas why this is happening and how I can make it permanent?

Use Firefox. It's the only thing I use if I can get away with it.

(Of course, I have to use it - I run Ubuntu, and IE isn't supported. :D)

Sometimes I have trouble staying logged on when I've got too many tabs open. I close all of them 'cept one, log on again, and that solves it.

I don't think it has to do with how many tabs you open, but with the time that it takes you to work through all of them. If you don't click the 'remember me' button, you log off automatically within 15 minutes or so. So if your last tabs are still there after 15 minutes, you need to sign in again.

So, mods, what's happened to the "Mod Talk" thread? I always found that, er, amusing.

Seriously, I once found a page that listed the usernames of all the mods by groups of green, purple, and blue. It had links to each one's profile. Can anyone direct me to it?

I KNEW there was a thread like this. Feel free to ignore my PM, inkspot

I know username changes aren't allowed anymore unless there is a good reason for it (which I completely understand, there was always a lot of confusion back in the day when people were doing it like every two days) But.. if you'd like to change your username back to one you had previously? Would that be a different matter?

Changing back to a prior username is more favourably considered than switching to a new one. It's not a guarantee, and other factors are considered (e.g. were you commonly known by the old name before the switch, or was it a name you only had briefly?)

The purpose of the restriction on name changes is strictly practical, to avoid confusion and make administering the forum easier. If changing a name does not lead to greater confusion, then there's less problem. Usually changing a name back to an earlier one causes less confusion than creating an entirely new name. For instance, if user WaffleHead gets his name changed to PeanutBrain and then gets it changed back to WaffleHead, it's less confusing when people start seeing WaffleHead again than if he were to get his name changed to DirtyHands.

Yup. They show up in the "Currently Active" and "Members who have visited" lists with a little asterisk by their name.

Also, you may have noticed, even 'invisible' members can't hide completely from non-mods. On the "Who's Online" page, even if you can see only, for instance, six usernames and their activities, it still says "7 members online." So it takes a little bit of deduction and Hoosier ingenuity to figure out who the 'invisible' member is.
