Sir Godfrey
Pelegrin Crucis
Lady Chloe said:Chloe aroused and found herself laying on her stomache wrapped tightly in Eringuard's cloak. Memoried floated past her eyes as she slowly remembered the attack. Pushing herself up into a sitting position, she left out a gasp of pain as her back felt as if it had been lit on fire. Eringuard, who was lying beside her jumped up. "Oh Lady Chloe! You are awake!" he said as he gently touched her bare shoulder. Chloe tightened her grip on his cloak when she realized her upper half was completly uncovered. Sheerik's soft nose brushed her neck. "I am glad to see you are well Daughter of Eve. You had us worried."
Turning to Sheerik, she rubbed his jaw tenderly. "Forgive me my friends," she felt tears rising as she nuzzled into his warm fur. After several silent moments of just sitting there like this, Chloe finally found strength in her to move away. Wiping the tears from her cheeks she turned to Eringuard. "How long have I been unconscious?"
"Nearly three days. You lost a lot of blood..." he said brushing a strand of hair behind her ear. Blushing Chloe nodded and asked for her clothes. Handing them to her, Eringuard and Sheerik turned their backs giving her privacy. Before slipping into her dress Chloe touched her back. It was still very swollen and warm. It also was scabbed over. Bringing the dress over her head, she slid into it, careful not to stretch the skin on her back. Once she was dressed she bound her sword to her hip. Slowly she brought herself to stand. "Shall we continue?" she asked Eringuard and Sheerik who still had their backs turned. Sheerik looked back at her with a look of exhasperation, and Eringuard horrified, spun to stare at her.
"You aren't fully recovered, we won't be going anywhere!" Eringuard said slightly worried and angry. He came over to her and began to remove her sword from her hip.
"Excuse me!" Chloe said backing up sharply. "I am well enough to travel. I don't even want to think on the horrors that Queen Susan could be facing!"
"I refuse to allow you to leave this clearing!" Eringuard said, gently grabbing her arm.
"I agree with Eringuard, Lady Chloe. You aren't well enough to ride, you will only reopen your wounds." Sheerik added quietly.
"We can not sit and wait while Queen Susan is missing!" Chloe exclaimed, angrily trying to free herself from Eringuard's grip. "If I can not ride! I will walk." she stated, making a jerking motion. A sharp intake of breath could be heard as she felt a gash on her back retear. Falling forward, she fell into Eringuard's arms. Whimpering in pain she felt him gently hold her. "Milady, you are going to kill yourself. What frightens you to the point that you can not allow yourself to rest, even for a moment? Queen Susan is a strong woman, she will not fall so easily."
"I feel like it was my fault she left. I should have listened," Chloe said tears stinging her eyes.
Eringuard sighed, bringing her to a standing position, he wrapped his arms around her, holding her as she cried silently. Resting his head on top of hers he thought of everything they had gone through together even though they had only known one another for 2 months. He thought of the prophecy, and how this was effecting her emotional state. He thought of how much time they had spent just talking about their pasts and what they hoped for in the future. Stroking her long red hair he spoke to her in Elven. He knew she didn't understand, but the words would still have a calming affect.
Slowly, she cried herself dry and was weakened against him, leaning on him for support. Gently he scooped her into his arms, laying her down on the ground. His shirt was wet with tears, but it didn't concern him. Smiling at her, he told her to rest. He removed her sword setting it beside her so that if she needed it, she knew where it was. "Rest for a couple of days. I'm am sure that Queen Susan is safe. She is a gentle person at heart, but she is a great warrior. I do not doubt her abilities to defend herself. Now sleep, Daughter of Eve."
Chloe merely nodded, closing her eyes, one more tear escaping and sliding down her temple into her dark red hair. Soon she had drifted off into the rapture of unconsciousness.
