Ok, more.
“We’ll be right across the hall if you need anything.” George told us, being the father figure that he was. “Zara and Sharon will be arriving soon and your rooms are right next door to each other and connected with a door.”
I heard a giggle from Karen behind me and I felt a hand on my shoulder. Karen’s voice, “We’ll be fine, Father, dear.” She said teasingly.
I grinned, and gave George a hug, telling him that I would be fine. That still didn’t seem to satisfy him.
“Your mothers have entrusted you two into our care.” He said, and then paused and looked over his shoulder at the other guys, he turned back, “Well, into my care, anyway.”
Everyone laughed and we all said goodnight and went to our rooms.
As usual, I over-packed. I always did on any kind of trip. As I found out, Karen did too. Between the two of us, the room was crowded by suitcases, bags, and loose clothes.
Karen and I got ready for bed quickly and then tucked ourselves into the comfy sheets.
Karen fluffed up her pillows and then turned to me and grinned. “So, you wanna do an all-nighter?”
I rolled my eyes and yawned. “No way! I can barely stay awake now!”
“Oh, come on,” Karen said, “I finally get to have something close to a sleep-over and the other girl can barely stay awake!”
I looked at her. “You’ve never had a sleepover?”
She shook her head, “My mom leads a very sheltered life and shelters mine as well.”
I honestly felt sorry for her. No wonder she was so dumb, she wasn’t exposed to the real world.
Just then, which was about 3:00 A.M., there was a knock at the door between our room and next door. Karen jumped, letting out a little squeal. She covered her head with her sheets and I heard whimpering.
I rolled my eyes and jumped out of bed. “Look, girl! It’s just Sharon or Zara.”
I went over and opened the door, expecting to see one of the girls. Instead, Damian stood in front of me.
I jumped slightly, surprised to see him there. “Oh! You scared me.”
He grinned, “Didn’t mean to do that.” He said, and then held something out to me, “We found this on top of one of our suitcases.”
I looked in his hand and saw a cell phone, a blackberry pearl, to be exact. “Yeah that’s mine.” I said kind of awkwardly. Desperately trying to think of what I had on my background, I took the phone out of his hand. Slipping it into my pocket, I stood at the door awkwardly.
He awkwardly put his hands into his pockets. It was quite weird because we had never been at a loss for words. Perhaps it was just Karen’s presence. It certainly didn’t help any.
“Um, I guess I’ll talk to you guys tomorrow.” He said finally, and not a moment too soon.
“Yeah,” I agreed.
With a small smile at me and a wave to Karen in the room, he turned and went back through the room and out the door.
“That was kind of weird.” Karen said when I hopped back in bed.
I grinned, “Yeah, and awkward.”
She nodded, then leaning over the nightstand she asked, “How long have you had your phone?”
I pulled the blackberry out of my pocket and handed it to her, “Around 8 or 9 months.”
She punched a few buttons and then with a small, unreadable smile turned the screen towards me.
I looked at it and embarrassingly realized what was on my wallpaper. A picture of Damian singing “Puppy Love”
I gave her an embarrassed looking grin. “Oops!” I said.
She looked at me approvingly. My brain couldn’t think of what she was thinking. As Damian’s girlfriend, wouldn’t she be mad?
“Very smart of you.” She said.
I was puzzled. “How so?”
“Well, obviously this was planned. If any ‘innocent’ fan ‘happened’ to find your phone, then they would see this and believe your story.”
Inwardly, I sighed. Thank goodness she was blonde.
