Yey, linds! You're back!!!!!
Ok, here's an update.
The phone rang once, twice, the third ring was cut off by a voice, “Hey! How ya doing, sweetie?” it was my mom. It was so good to hear her voice.
“Mom!” I exclaimed, “Well, let me start out by saying I’m fine and that I’m having a wonderful time.” I said. Then I continued by telling her all about my experience. She was so happy for me.
“Liza, that great!” she told me. I could hear the smile in her voice.
“It’ll be on the PBS channel tonight at 8:00” I told her.
“You know I’ll be watching it.”
And I knew. She would. She’d be in front of the TV at 7:59 but she’d see it. My grandparents would too. I wasn’t gonna call my Dad.
“So, Eliza-” Paul began and then looked around at everyone, “You know, we need to come up with a nickname for you.”
There were nods of agreement and smiles. Karen came up and put her arm around me.
“What kind of nickname?”
Paul looked at Karen with a puzzled look on his face. He kept looking at her as if that were helping him think.
I grinned. A nickname. That might be kinda fun.
Paul looked over at Keith and said, “Something musical.”
Keith answered, “Something complimenting.”
“Something apropos,” that came from George.
“Something sweet,” Karen added.
Ryan grinned and said, “Something borrowed,”
Then Damian picked up on his joke and said, “And something blue.”
I burst out laughing and so did everyone else. “Gosh, guys. How are you gonna find a name that has all that.”
George said, “Easy. Just combine all the letters.”
I perked up. I like this kind of game.
Damian brought out a piece of paper and wrote down all of the first letters. After he was finished, he sat there a minute and stared at what he’d wrote.
“Mcasbb.” he sounded out, then looked up at everyone else. “Mcasbb?”
Now everyone was really laughing.
I managed to get out, “I don’t think I like that.”
Paul answered, “We need to rearrange the letters then.” He took the paper from Damian and studied it.
“We need more vowels.” He said frowning.
“Something exciting,” a new voice said. It was Zara. She entered the room gracefully. “Why don’t you let me try and do it, guys. You’ll only embarrass the poor thing.” She said looking mainly at Paul and Ryan.
They shied away, pretending to be hurt but they were grinning.
Zara took the small piece of paper and sat down at a nearby table.
After a very long time she turned sideways in her chair and held the piece of paper up to her face. “How’s this sound?” she began, “I completely changed the words cause you guys have no sense of matching whatsoever. I made no sense of the previous batch of letters so I used a lot of different ones. I used the words cheerful, attentive, daring, artistic, willing, independent, loving, loyal, intelligent, able, musical, and sociable. So, rearranging the letters like so I came up with the name ‘Cada Williams’.” Zara finished, turning the paper around for us to see her work.
I grinned. Not exactly a very common name but I liked it! I had been trying to think of a name to use because I knew that Mom would not want me to use my real one. This one was perfect. But, I wasn’t about to brag. “Zara, I am not all of those things.”
Zara grinned, “Of course you’re not.” She said sarcastically.
Everyone else grinned and whispered to each other.
I looked around, “What? I’m not!”
Damian came and sat down next to me. Putting his arm around me he said, “Don’t be so modest. We all know that you are absolutely everything that Zara said.” To my surprise and delight, he placed a small kiss on my forehead.
Karen, not even bothered, came over and put her arm around me on my other side, “I agree completely!”
I blushed, uncomfortable taking such praise, “Thanks you guys!”
I was so happy. Life just couldn’t get any better!
