Callie, who had been standing nearby, looked at Chilena with eyebrows raised. "Chilena, Alipang was right there with you barely twenty minutes ago! Then Summer came by, and he went with her to see her Dad, Mr. Heron. Mrs. Havens, they went _that_ way. Mr. Heron would be in a wheelchair."

Cecilia thanked Callie, then looked at Chilena again. "I guess you lost track of the time, having Dan with you." She smiled at Dan to let him know she was not objecting to him being with Chilena. "I wonder if Al has anyone to share the time with in the same way? Well, honey, you enjoy the concert. Dan, you have her home no later than eleven-thirty;" and she turned to go looking for her son.

Dan nodded. "Of course, Mrs. Havens."

When Cecilia found Alipang with Summer, Mrs. Heron told her how much she appreciated Alipang for stimulating Nick's mind. Summer, who was well known to the Havens family, willingly watched Melody and Harmony (enthusing about their facepainting jobs) while Cecilia took Alipang aside.

"Alipang, I have an apology to make that I've owed you for a long time. All the months that I was letting Chilena have boyfriends while you could scarcely look at a girl, I told you--I told MYSELF--that it was because girls are more emotionally mature than boys. But it ISN'T always true; and for certain, Chilena is NOT more mature than you. I was just--" She started crying; and when her son reflexively embraced her, she clung to him and wept harder.

"Forgive me, Al!" she sobbed. "The fact is, I wanted you to BE A GIRL. We had had Chilena for nearly eight years before...and had recently adopted Melody before we discovered you....As a homeschooling Mom, I was comfortable teaching a daughter. Then there YOU were, brash and fierce and adventurous--upsetting MY female comfort zone! There I was telling Chilena how equal she was, how SHE could do anything and be so 'empowered'--but I wouldn't let YOU have even AS MUCH adventure as I was letting her...." The sobbing took over again. "I'm so sorry, so sorry!....If I had really LET you be a boy, you wouldn't be so confused now about Kim--!"

Alilpang hugged his Mom for as long as it took to get the bulk of her tears drained out. It occurred to him that this was the first time he had experienced even a little bit of parent-child role-reversal with either of his parents.

"How confused DO you think I am about her, Mom? How much do you know about what happened during the Escrima demo?" Soon, whatever Mom had not known about her son's mortification, she did know; but he made sure not to tell it in a way that condemned Chilena.

Alipang had comforted his mother more than she him. She and Dad now headed home to get the babies to bed--after Alipang gave each of them a goodnight kiss on her pastel-colored face. Dad would come back for Alipang later. He could have insisted on Alipang coming home now, except for two reasons. He didn't want Cecilia to feel guilty all over again for suppressing and smothering their son; and he was hoping against hope that Kim would seek out Alipang while he was here alone, bringing things between them to some resolution which would be bearable for the half-boy-half-man.

I'll post for three of my characters, just to let everyone know where they are...

Dan smiled and held Chilena's hand, listening to the singer on the stage. She had a wonderful voice. Jen had drifted off from them and had gotten closer to the stage, but was now coming back to get a snack at a concession stand. Ollie was still backstage, tuning guitars and setting up microphones.

Alipang stalked the park without a goal. Half of him wanted to find Kim, and half wanted to hide from her. He was disappointed to see no sign of her, yet would have run from her if he had seen her.

It occurred to him that he had not done a single push-up since letting that ape Rocknose pound him five days ago. So he got down on his hands and knees, took the push-up position....and instantly confirmed--AAAARRRGGHH!! --why he had not done a single push-up since letting that ape Rocknose pound him five days ago.

He was overdue for a pain pill; but the pain in his spirit was far worse.

Jen looked over to Alipang's direction and saw him on the ground doing push-ups. She cocked an eyebrow at the sight.

If Jen saw that, she also saw that after only ten or twelve push-ups, he collapsed as if a piano had been dropped onto him, with a snarling cry of pain escaping his clenched teeth.

OOC: Okay, everyone seems to have had their fill of Labor Day. So I will assume that Jennifer kindly helped Alipang get back up after his ill-advised experiment in push-ups. Then she would have urged him to phone his Dad and get a ride home. So until further notice, Alipang is now in his own room, with his maximum allowable dose of hydrocodone, letting the pain fade. The picnic is over, at least for him.

Alipang was standing in the center of the East High Falcons' football field. Jack Torinburg and his beefy buddies were nowhere in sight; but two non-specific football teams were around, and all the players on both teams had the exact face of the boy who had been with Kim Tisdale when Chilena had blabbed to Kim about Alipang's infatuation. A cheerleader squad, all pointing at Alipang, was chanting:

"S...T...U...P...I...D!! What does it spell? ALIPANG!"

Only then did Alipang look at himself and realize that he was wearing nothing but a great big DIAPER.

He was glad to wake up from that one!

Her brother had not screamed directly at the dream itself, distasteful though that was; thinking himself diapered in a public place with girls watching had caused him to start running--while actually lying on his back near the edge of his bed, which caused him to fall off.

The spasm of pain at least confirmed for him that the dream-stadium was not real. He lay on the floor taking regular breaths--which could not be as deep as he would have preferred--waiting for the worst of it to pass.

Alipang didn't mind her coming in, since he had on his usual sleeping attire, a lightweight pair of sweatpants--plus, for the present, the wrapping of his ribcage.

"I'll be all right, sweets, I just fell out of bed. If I yelled, it was when I hit the floor. For in instant there, I thought my backbone and my sternum had traded places."

Sitting on the edge of his bed now, he said, "I dreamed I was, um, embarrassed in front of everyone at a football stadium." He didn't like making his ultra-sensitive sister feeling guilty again, but they were accustomed to telling each other the truth.

Melody and Harmony peeked in, were assured that their brother was all right, and went about their morning routine.

Alipang leaned into her to kiss her good morning, glad that she was NOT asking to know more about his dream, since it was obviously based on the huge embarrassment SHE had caused for him yesterday at Lakeshore Park.
