Peter staring at soldier in train station

i think Peter is admiring the soldier and he finds them honorable, the kind of person he wants to be. Just like some of the other posts said, it foreshadows him becoming a knight and fighting for narnia.

Personally I agree that Peter is noticing the young age of the soldier and this causes him to feel many things. One of things being the fact that he does in fact want to be a man and go and fight in the war, but what struck me most was that he seems to empathise with the soldier. The reality that it could be him going off to fight instead of being shepherded away to safety seems to hit him pretty hard.

Many others have probably said this, but it reminds him of his father and there's an emotional attachment there between and so on and so forth lol. ;)

The soldier is played by Jaxin the other boy was in the final two for the part of Peter and obviously didn't get it. The look is meant to signify that even though they are the same age, their lives are going in two completely different directions.

Its a bit wierd.... I didnt undertstand why he was looking at the soldier.... My mom thought it maybe was becaus it was his dad.. but I dont think so.... :S

I think it definitly has something to do with them being of a similar age, during World War II, many teenage boys lied about thier age to get into the Army and i think that its something that must have crossed the minds of many boys, when Peter saw this soldier and how young he was, he perhaps thought about this boy going away to war, while he himself was traveling to the safety of the countryside.

That's precisely the way I saw it too--as if he was thinking that young man didn't look much older than he did, could have been a school chum.

When the children are about to board the train, why does Peter stop and look back at that soldier?

It prolly reminded him of his Dad and just how serious that everything that was happening in the world really was?

Possibly thinking of his father or feeling guilty because he is not going to war. The soldier is a young man, probably about 18, he's going to war to serve his country and his family. If I was being moved to a safehouse away from war and I saw a kid my age in an army uniform I would feel a little guilty about not going to join the good fight.

i agree with you. he is thinking of going off to war, but he knows his mom won't let him; he has to be the man in the family till his father gets back.

I thought that it was a sort of foreshadowing of what would happen to Peter in the future...fighting in Nernia's war and becoming a knight.

peter's dad was a soldier who died at the war. i think he looked at that soldier because he wants to remember or maybe he remembers his dad.

Peter's father didn't die in the war. He was just serving in it.
