Peter staring at soldier in train station

I remember thinking about that the very first time I saw it... and I know this totally doesn't fit into the story, but the longing look kinda seemed like Peter wanted to be with them (as in, join the army and fight). I know, it's totally not in the book and all that, but I've seen it before in movies.

Oh well...apparently he was just supposed to be looking around, confused.

I thought it was sort of a forbodding of what was to come. I mean, Peter would become the sole like 'soldier' in his family once they evacuated london and was the oldest amongst the penvesie silbings. And as well as becoming a hero, king, soldier in narnia.

I think it was because he was either missing his father, or he was thinking how if he was just a little older he would also be fighting, whether he liked it or not.

That was my impression - the soldier he was looking at was only a couple years older than he was. He may have been thinking that it would be his lot soon.

I personally think he was thinking about his father when he saw the solider and eventually got snapped out of his thoughts when susan took the tickets from him

When the children are about to board the train, why does Peter stop and look back at that soldier?

I don’t know if anyone has said this yet but this is my theory: Peter looked back at the soldier because he was not much older than himself. He was probably thinking, “That could have been me.” It makes sense and I think it fits. He felt like he was escaping while the others of his age were fighting for the motherland. The fate that awaited them was inevitable and Peter realized that it could very well have been him dressed up in that uniform.

That's what I thought, too, Traitor, because the boy was so young, not that much older than Peter.

dude, i just made this thread!!!! however, i think its because he is longing to grow up and possibly break away from his family (seeing as how he feels the need to boss edmund around every two seconds). or else maybe he might have been looking for his father...but i dont think that is right because all the soldiers there were to young to have kids as old as peter susan edmund and lucy...

That's kind of like what I said earlier... even though it doesn't really follow the book or anything, it kinda looks to me like he wants to be one of them.

I thought he was just disoriented. LOL

But yeah...the book never says anything about Peter looking at the soldier. It doesn't even say how they even GOT to the country! LOL

I like everyone else's responses, how maybe he was thinking of his father, or how Peter himself might even BE in the war. But surprisingly, he DID go to war. *nudge, nudge* Rightttt...?? ;)

umm i think its because he saw soldiers and he wanted to see if his dad was one of the incoming soldiers..or maybe he just wanted to be a part of them since the soldier he was looking at was his age

I don't get it either!!!!!!!!!!!! Maybe we should all write a letter to andrew and say:

Why does Peter look at the soldier when he is about to board the train to the professors?

hahaha, i dunno.....

Ok so does anyone know andrews address?? I agree with Lucy the Marshwiggle. That seems a little more relistic. His father is in the war after all. That soldier dude probably had to be around Peter's age. Certainly looked like it.

That's an interesting view. Why not :) Or he maybe think of his dad when seeing the soldiers.
So why Edmund didn't, as he semes to miss his dad a lot ?

twen

Maybe cuz Edmund was in sort of a bad mood at the time. OH, I don't know. I guess it would look good too if earlier Edmund was being all cross and all of a sudden he sees this soldier and he has this sort of change of heart. Huh? Won't that be nice? Watch out, Andrew Adamson! A to-be director is in town! :D

silver chair=upcoming movie????

maybe the reason peter looked back was because he felt like it... in movies people always look back and stare at random things as they leave...
