Yep,that's way the world works. There are always going to be good and bad. Just pray about it. Another Great Website •ashley•

There's more you can do than just pray. You have to make sure you FIX/SPAY your pets and treat them like members of the family. I am a volunteer for the Humane Society, and I can tell you now with tears in my eyes how people just dump off their pets to basically be killed more than adopted. Instead of going to breeders to get pets, get one for basically free at the shelter! Don't 'dump' your pets when you decide you're too tired of them or can't take care of them...would you do this to your kids or friends?

Homeless pets exist and end up in shelters because of people's selfishness and carelessness.

You are so right Michelle. And instead of paying large amounts for purebred dog,go check out the pound. They have great dogs there who really need you at reasonable prices, and donate to the shelters. They need every cent that they can get.

I agree it makes me angry. My dad breeds dogs so we cant get them fixed but if a pup ever came that we couldnt sell, then he would just lower the price. The one reason that we dont go to the humane society is cuase my parents hunt and fish and their against that but my dad has four hunting dogs, I have a Siberian husky, and our dog Tinsel has a litter on th way!

If you do find a stray dog and their is noone their to help, I suggest either finding someone or to get very low to show that we're not threateing, turn sideways, and if you can even whimper to them. If they snarl or shown any signs of attack or if u can see thier to scared to get close to, find an adult or call a near by pound k?

Thats my advice.
If we werent fhunters and fisher men, and if they werent against it, we probably might buy one but being that my dad breeds dogs, we will have to stick to purebreeds. But for other ppl, the pound is a good idea.

I know...*sniff* I hate people like that, though sometimes they can't help it...I saw on Animal Cops New York City or somethin...I lady had 35 cats and she was so poor she could hardly care for herself, her and the cats just ate rice, so she couldn't really help it, but she loved her cats enough to give them to the ASPCA for better homes... :(

One of the big problems here is illegitmacy, if an animal can ever be legitimately born, that is. People need to spay or nueter pets, otherwise we will end up with too many, and people will abandon them.

Nothing makes me angrier than people who say they don't 'believe' in the Humane Society because they 'kill' animals there. Do these people think that animals running around stray and having horrible lives, starving, or ending up dead in the road are better options than being up for adoption or having a humane ending? And those people who are too 'poor' to afford pets should never get them in the first place. Spaying an animal can be done for 20 dollars or less ( or whatever you can donate) at the Humane Society. There is NO excuse in my opinion for the abandonment or the lackluster treatment of our pets. I work days where I'm in tears because of the stupid, idiotic people who come there with every darn excuse in the book as to why they can't take care of their pets. I could slap each and every one of them and kick their butts down the street. I'd like them to experience what it would be like to be tied to a post with no food, starved, have endless amounts of progeny, and or get abused and beaten.

If you're a breeder that's a different thing...because that is what you do to make money, breed certain types of cats, dogs, or horses. I have no problem with that. But if you aren't a breeder and you don't take the time to get your pet fixed then DO NOT GET A PET.

I got ALL my cats there. There is one problem I do admit though. When you go to the pound, sometimes you have no idea how this animal was treated by previous owners. I had a cat who bit and scratched because her previous owners were probably mean to her, and my friend got a dog that was so shy and frightened that whenever you raised your voice ( at anyone in the room) it would go pee. But, with time and patience, these animals can be very loving.

I just am very emotional about animals because I love them dearly, and they are helpless in the face of human cruelty and disregard. So if I sound like I'm on a soap box, I am I guess. There was a terrible story in the news a while back about an animal shelter ( not where I live but somewhere in the midwest I think) called Noah's Ark, where these two kids broke in there and took a baseball bat and bludgeoned 17 cats because they thought cats were 'evil.' Well those kids were evil, and I can't tell you how I cried when I saw that on the tv.

(I highly agree with everything you have said IceMaiden and that is awesome that you volunteer for the Humane Society!!)
Wow thats cruel like just wow. If it would have been dogs I would I have like been like OMG and I might've even cried a little but since it was cats just I would have said OMG and many more words but no tears cause I don't love cats as much as dogs.
Dogs are truly my life and one day they actually will be cause I am trying to save up $1000 so I can buy a Yorkie cause I want to compete in dog shows so I want to get one and well compete in the junior shows. The only problem is I don't know if my parents would let me buy another dog even if i had MORE then enough money. :(
But yeah I really did want to adopt a Yorkie from a shelter but my mom and dad AND brother were all like no cause what if something is wrong with it. Even though we ended up buying one for $400 I would'nt trade him for anything in the world.

I hate seeing animals in pain...or mistreated! I tend to report people who do that, or try my best to rescue the animal. I used to live next door to this guy who had his dog locked in a cage, 24-7, seriously! And it was soooooooo thin! I used to feed it meat from my kitchen. (that was when I was 6) Since then I've helped as many as I can.
One of the horses I have I resuced from someone who didn't feed him. He was so friendly, and really thin. (now he's almost fat! :D ) My dog cost $50, she's not a purebred but who cares? She's a great friend. I also resued a rabbit from a guy. I don't think he even fed it!!! I asked if I could take it, I was going to offer him some money, but he was just like. 'take it!' so I did. I plan to volentee for some kind of animal rescue thing, soon as I'm old enough.

im sorry. can the mods pls move if it's in the wrong place? thanks.

i know! people are just so cruel!! my mom saw how sad i was for these animals so she agreed to adopt one. i adopted my dogs from there. they really felt like home when they came to my house.

Animal welfare is a great thing, and kudos to all of you who have done your part by rescuing animals, or working with your local humane society. But, there is a very evil dark side to all of this that few are really aware of because it has been hidden from them.

There are many groups out there, most national in scope, who would have you to believe that they are for animal welfare (humane and responsible trestment of animals), but are really for animal rights (animals have the same rights people do, and should not be used or joined to people in any way.) These people are smart, deceptive, and downright evil. I spend much of my free time fighting these organizations.

Who are these organizations? PETA is one of them, and they are known for their outrageous stunts. The Humane Society of the US (HSUS) is another one, and far more dangerous than PETA because they are working to separate you from your animals by legislation. (They should not be confused with your local humane society. The vast majority of these groups do good work. They have stolen the name to get donations, and unfortunately have enough legal protection that they go on using that name.) The International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) is yet another. A really dangerous group is the Animal Protection Institute (API). They are currently going from state to state trying to ban the ownership of any animal besides a dog or cat (and dogs and cats will be next). There are many others. Combined together, these groups fleece the public for well over $100 million a year. (Notice that the group mentioned above is tied up with several of these animal rights groups.)

Some of these groups openly support terrorism and violence. PETA, for instance, has openly defended members of the terrorist groups ALF (Animal liberation Front) and (Earth Liberation Front). (If you don't believe this, look up PETA's form 990 tax return.) ALF and ELF are responsible for firebombings, poisionings, destruction of research labs, releasing captive animals, spray painting furs and other socially unacceptable activities.

If you visit the website of the Center for Consumer Fredom, you can read about the vast evil these groups are up to.www.consumerfreedom.com Look around their site for things like 'PETA kills animals'.

Why am I so passionate about this? I work with a lot of people who keep exotic animals, and these groups are violently and relentlessly attacking us. Every year, more and more states and localities ban the ownership of exotic animals, often for no other reason than a member of the aforementioned groups has been lobbying in that locality. Or, there might be an accident with an exotic animal (which are actually extremely rare, considering the number of exotic animals out there. Most of the serious accidents involve animal professionals like zookeepers or trainers, who chose to do this kind of work and know the risks.). Or, someone might not take care of their animals, and it makes the news. These groups then move in like vultures, and get their laws passed. Everyone is hurt by these laws, including the responsible owners. For instance, laws passed in kentucky last year put most small zoos out of business. A similar law just passed in Kansas will make it very hard for small facilities with exotic animal to stay in business, even if their care is excellent. I could go on and on.

Because the goal of these orginizations is 'no captive animals', they are against conservation breeding of endangered species (unless in the wild, of which for many of these species, there is little wild left). They want no human contact with these animals. they also spread myths and legends about how exotic animals are carriers of horrible diseases (the overwhelming majority carry no such diseases).

Basically, if these groups are not stopped, the only lions you will see in the future is in books and museums.

So, if you want to help animal welfare, support your local humane society. Avoid the aforementioned groups or any with similar names.

In the interest of maintaining peace on these forums, this will be my only post on this subject. If you want to learn more, or discuss these things, email me off-list.

I agree with you about the animal rights people. I do not support such radical groups as PETA. I think it's ridiculous to go around using violence to save the animals because you believe they are on the same par as humans. While I believe that animal testing can be cruel, it is also necessary for the advancement of medicine and technology and to save human lives.

As for the owning of exotic pets, I do not condone that because I do not believe people should own animals that belong in the wild, such as lynx, lions, tigers, or other exotic cats. However I am not going to say, " don't own that animal" just because some people are too careless or selfish to care for them properly. Some of the animals that end up at such places as the Animal Ark were the result of selfish people who owned these 'pets' because they thought it was 'manly' or 'macho' to walk around with a tiger or a lion. The others are injured animals found in the wild, and respectively taken care of by those generous individuals who donate their time and services to helping these animals. But some human-owned exotic animals therefore cannot fend for themselves in the wild, and are doomed to a life behind a cage.

The emphasis therefore should not be on BANNING the ownership of exotic animals, but the proper education of how to take care of them IF one chooses to.

I've never heard of any exotic pet carrying 'diseases' so that's a new one on me, T.

I do not support Peta, I support my local Humane Society and the SPCA. I cannot stand self-righteous animal rights activists who scream at me for wearing leather and eating a burger.
