Prince Caspian: Ben Barnes & why is he so old?

I wish they had picked someone younger, blonder, and more like the Caspian in the books. BUT I think that Ben Barnes was an OKAY choice and I think the movie's going to be awesome.
I agree -- I would have chosen someone closer to Lewis' description of Caspian in the books, but Ben looks like he will do a good job. And we are stuck with him.
To make it look good now, they had to cut out the nurse totally. I hate that, because she had a very lovely scene with Aslan toward the end of the book. Ah well, there it is.
So then, in the movie, Cornelius will have been Ben's tutor from the time he was a little boy (although we will never see him as a little boy in the film) and Cornelius will take over the nurse's position from the story as the one who first told him stories about Old Narnia? To me, that's just dumb. The whole theme with the nurse is, to me, one of the best parts of the story, because of the way it is capped at the end, as Julie says. :(

Ahh je comprend. You are right though - it's all about fanciability! :) Just a shame they couldn't have done abit better with the girls...
LOL! Anna and Georgie are too young for Jonny. Wonder what Prunaprismia looks like?

I agree Inky, I agree....

By the way if you want to see Pruniprismia here's the actress Alicia Borracharo

Hoo-ee, Ms. Borracharro's character needs to be renamed something like Major-Gorgeous-Babe-ismia! But--a crossbow? What, are they planning a High Noon shoot-out between her and Susan, with Clint Eastwood's whistling music in the background? Please, don't let this Telmarine queen be killed! Just let Susan wing her, and then (once Miraz is toast) marry her off to Cornelius, who deserves a little middle-aged-male wish-fulfillment.

K you guys are starting to exagerate a tad bit now. Sure he's older thn wha you imagined, but like come on get over it he's picked and he's done and h seems to have done well and he's not old. just oder than what your expectations wouldve allowed you to imagine. You'll see, he'll do fine :) once eustace and Jill come in, he'll look perfect next to them.

From what I read in Entertainment Magazine articale, they think because of Ben Barnes that PC will do even better than LWW. Infact they already have pre-gross number for Prince Caspian. The total gross they believe will be 310.8 million and second place in the line up under Indiana Jones And The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

I know it will do fine in my town because the last time i went to the theatre the first poster was in the hall and there was a crowd of girls around it drooling over Ben. Also many people were talking about the trailer at school after seeing "The Golden Compass." Sure he's older than the original character Lewis wrote, but I try not to let little things like age bother me -- what actor actually plays thier ages nowdays? :p

It's not just about the age of the ACTOR, but the age of the CHARACTER. If Caspian is made out to be just one more cocky, super-cool, know-it-all teenager slash young adult, Mr. Lewis' whole point about a YOUNG BOY approaching manhood is lost. In the book, when Aslan asks if Caspian feels worthy to rule Narnia, Caspian's response is sincerely humble; but the way they are making the Ben Barnes Caspian look, I would not be surprised if he were to say to Aslan, "Hey, I'm not only ready to rule Narnia, I'd probably do a better job ruling Earth besides than anyone there is doing!"

Lol I think your taking it too far. I agree the story of young boy growing into a man may get lost, but I doubt Caspian is going to become cocky and respond that way.

I certainly HOPE they don't go so far. But I can't help remembering what a big change was made in the other direction for the LOTR movies, redefining Frodo from the equivalent of a late-thirties human into Teen Idol.

CF, I can tell that you haven't watched some of the more recent promotional clips that have surfaced on the internet, because at least one of them discusses this and gave me reason to hope that they haven't messed it up to that degree.

Actually Anna is only 6 months younger than me so it's not too bad! And yes Mrs Miraz seems very nice but far too old unfortunately :(
