Prince Caspian: Ben Barnes & why is he so old?

Nothing, and I repeat, NOTHING that happened in that Film is Ben's fault. When do you people start to understand that? He is an actor, not a script writer. So he does what the script says, he can't change it.

None of us has said we don't like Ben. What we are saying is that we don't like it that he is too old for the role. William got older between movies but when he was initially cast, he was just about the right age. Even if he wasn't we would not blame him either. We blame the writers and movie makers for this. So don't worry, we don't hate Ben.
 
Yeah, but wasn't William around 17 when they did the first one? So he was still older then the Character he played. Caspian is supposed to be the same age as Peter, and that's what he looks like in the movie. So I don't understand your point people. He is a brilliant actor, that's all that matters. The only problem that I saw was that Caspian's character wasn't developed very well, but that again is not Ben's fault.
I really think its funny that everyone who made the film thought he was the best guy for this job, but your only problem is that he is "too old".
 
I didnt have a problem with his age; I had a problem with the lack of character development with Caspian. He felt like a stranger to me by the end of the movie. You dont get to know him at all that much, he's just Prince Caspian. :rolleyes: Cant wait for VODT; I think he'll be fantastic :D
 
I think the casting of Telmarines was good overall. By choosing spanish and hispanic actors and the crested helmets, they had the look of conquistadores, which is in effect what the Telmarines were -- plucky soldiers of fortune that grabbed a new world. On the other hand the medieval face masks gave them a feel of Ancient Rome or Greece. They were, in a sense, generically "foreign" and yet accessible.

The wise decision to use actors that rarely played in english language movies also meant they WERE the Telmarines to the majority of english speaking audience members.

That's not my only problem with him, but it is an important one with the nature of the story. The book says Peter sees a boy about his own age when he sees PC; the Telarmine lords note what a mighty warrior Ed is contrasting him with "the boy Caspian." When Caspian volunteers to duel Miraz, one reason Peter won't let him is that Miraz thinks of him as "just a kid." Caspian begs off being appointed king by Aslan because he feels as if he is just a kid.

Any of this would be nonsense when applied to Ben, who looks at least 19 if not 20 years old in the film, and who definitely looks older than Edmund.

But you can say, all that is in the book and not in the movie. But the other problem is that in the movie, he clearly knows his father was king, yet he is not, and at his advanced age he has never asked Miraz why he can't be made king, and never thought for himself that his auntie was expecting a baby and that if she had the baby his uncle might want to get rid of him? If he never thought of any of this at his age, then it appears he's kind of a dope in the film.

But none of this is a reflection on Ben! He did the best he could, I imagine, with the script he was given. He just was too old for the part.

I am pretty sure he is an excellent actor and all, and did his best to bring out the character he was supposed to play. No one here is questioning his skill and personal character.
I guess his age was ok for this Caspian in the movie. For the Caspian in the book, he's too old and not ok.

Well , but even a 14 year old (isn't that Peters age?) should have thought about something like that. So it doesn't matter if the age is 17 or 14. I would believe that an 8 year old wouldn't think about things like that, but a 14 year old?

Also, we haven't got most of the scenes from the book in the movie. That's how it is. Wouldn't have changed anything if the actor would have been 14 because the script would have been the same....

If we really want to stay close to the book we have to say that all the actors (Peter, Susan, Edmund, Lucy...) were too old for that film.
Anyway, they need someone who can also play Prince Caspian in the next one, that wouldn't have worked with a 14-year old.

They've changed so many things in the movie that the last thing we should be bothered about is Caspians age...There are definitely things that are worse...
 
Caspian did seem like kind of a dope sometimes. :p And yeah, Chrissi, there were definetly things that were worse...like the script...I was upset that they made it so that Caspian didnt know about Old Narnia and stuff like in the book. :( Like, he longed for it in the book. But in the movie, its like, "Oh, well, I know nothing about Old Narnia, but I guess I should support it and stuff, ho hum." :confused: :(

i agree. the movie lacked character development..especially with Caspian. we don't know much about him except that his father was killed by his own uncle...and he appears interested in susan. lol. i wish there was more!!
 
I actually think they did pretty well w/ his character development--but, having said that, they still could've done a lot more. However, I do think that the addition of his sensitivity to the subject of his father added a lot to his character emotionally, which is what I hoped they would do.
 
I liked how Caspian was portrayed as very human,humble,struggling,ect...BB did a much better job than I had anticipated,and I was pleased with Caspian's character.:)
 
OK, I know I wrote something a time ago... but I forgot XD

I wonder where I can read Prince Caspian´s age, I havent read the next book, only Prince Caspian and I dont remember it says something about his age...

Anywayz, I think Ben Barnes is absolutely great, though, I still have to see the movie. But I definitely like him better as an older guy than as another kid, considering there´s already too much kids.
Besides the fact, an older Caspian brings a stronger postion to face Miraz and the older bad guys.

Anywayz I still wonder where´s written his age.

But I am really shocked to find out people is amaze to see mostly the biggest population of regular Hispanic/Latin American/Mexican/Spanish people are white-non-indian people, really.

(I wonder what kind of image they have... that flase, annoying, image Hollywood has about Hispanic also called "Mexican"people? XD LOOOL :D:D:D)

By the way... Ben Barnes looks really really as any other Latin American boy, though, he is British. How interesting XD
