Prince Caspian Soundtrack

I don't care for Switchfoot but I love their song This is Home. It really captures the heart and maybe even the soul of Narnia. :)

Finally got my copy of the soundtrack this afternoon. I've been listening to it pretty much nonstop since I bought it. My conclusion...I love it! :D

The first thing I noticed is that the first song automatically goes into a kind of "action mode", and that pace is pretty much kept up during the whole CD. In LWW, there are a lot of slow, dreamy, lighter songs at the beginning, with the battle songs at the end. With PC, it's action/battle songs most of the way through. I love how some melodies and parts from LWW are carried over onto this one, because it helps tie the two together. :)

The only thing I don't like is how in some songs (Arrival at Aslan's How, Raid on the Castle, and Battle at Aslan's How), there are parts of the songs that are exactly the same as songs from LWW. I don't mind similarity to tie the two movies together, but I don't like that in some parts, the music is exactly the same. :o

I love "This Is Home"! I'm a huge Switchfoot fan anyway, and this song is amazing. I also like "The Call." But the other two (A Dance 'Round the Memory Tree and Lucy) haven't really impressed me yet...but they'll probably have to grow on me, like the vocal songs on LWW did. :p

Has anyone come across a special edition of the Prince Caspian soundtrack? I have yet to find one and I saw the movie and absolutely loved the music!! but i don't want to go ahead and spend money on the original if there is a sp. edition floating out there...
 
No, they haven't released a special edition. Who knows, they might later on...But for now, there's only the regular one. :)

I absolutely love "The Call" and "This Is Home." I've been humming them nonstop since I saw the movie. After I saw the movie Friday night, I couldn't fall asleep for probably 45 minutes because I was thinking about the movie and I had "The Call" stuck in my head. :p
 
When I saw Prince Caspian the first time "The Call" got stuck in my head. I love both "The Call" and "This is Home" and of course the Score by the legendary Harry Greson-Williams. :D
 
loved the soundtrack. The call was the best song. I was listening to it last night while reading a story and (i'm not lying here) it acutally made me crp (okay weep) Right now i'm trying to find it,(but my stupid bluetooth won't let my upload it -_-)
 
I was kinda disappointed with the music...all they did, IMO, was recycle the music from the last movie. There were no new or really definite themes. The thing I remember most from seeing the first one in theaters was that the music sent shivers down my spine; and it still does, if I listen to the soundtrack. However, when I saw PC, the music was a lot more subdued and there were no real definite themes.
 
I'm actually pretty happy with the old soundtrack being "recycled",it just added to the whole Narnia experience for me seeing as I haven't seen LWW or listened to the soundtrack in quite a while.
And I absolutely love The Call! It's such a beautiful song!
 
Actually if one listened closely enough, there were new themes added. However, they also kept some of the older ones because of character reappearance.

During the scene where they are trying to bring back Jadis, you hear her theme being played. Which of course was the same theme used in LWW when her army appears over the hill.

It's character theme music. And is used a lot in anime and cartoon series in general. It lets you know what character is being focused on right at that moment.

Aslan has his own as well, which is that heroic hopeful sounding theme. Hopefully, someone knows which one I'm talking about. :D
 
I actually really liked the recycling of the themes. It's like, they're basically pulling things from the first movie to keep them sort of linked together, in a sense.

And my friend and I got excited when we recognized the themes. I quote,

"Ah! It's the old battle music!"
"I know!"

*other people in theatre probably annoyed by teenage females talking during movie* Haha.

And to tell you the truth, I adored Regina Spektor's song at the end. If you've listened to the lyrics, they speak so much meaning for all of the Pevensies.

Its already out,
but if you noticed
most of the songs(if not all)were the same.
Just with maybe
a little more edge
and adventure added to them.
 
I also liked that they used some of the music from LWW in there. Loved hearing the bit they played as the kids start to romp along the beaches in Narnia. I haven't bought the soundtrack yet but most assuredly will. I'd also love it if they did another "Inspired by" CD. I also found the LWW one before I saw the movie and it really helped to set the mood for it. Since the Christian themes aren't as obvious this time though, I'm not sure if they will do it.
 
I don't think people are really listening to the music if they're saying they're just recycled.

Listen to Prince Capsian Flees. That musical movement is used the majority of the time through Raid on the Castle, but people I've talked to only remember the segment of the The Battle that flirts into the movement towards the end marker. Why is that? The majority of Raid on the Castle is free of any recycling but people only remember that one strong theme because it was their favorite from the first movie. Same with The Door in the Air. Especially the first half of the track with the lilting of the brass horns, it is one of my favorite tracks long before segments of Only the Beginning of the Adventure are woven into it. Take the extended battle sequence from Th Duel all the way to the Return of the Lion and the recycled segments are only smaller parts of greater musical movements and are done in a sort of leitmotif fashion. How about that lilting segment at the beginning of Journey to the How? Miraz Crowned is an awesome, threatening track.

I hate to push this issue so much but I've been in music for twenty years. Roughly half of the themes in this score are reused (though remixed), but they do not occupy the majority of the score, in my opinion. They are interspersed into larger musical movements.
