Riddles

ok. so far i know that the if they paid $30 for the room, then each paid $10. But, the actual fee for the room is $25. However, the clerk pockets $2. Which means that each person gets only $1 back instead of $1.67. So, $30 minus $2 is $28. But $28 divided by 3 does not equal $27........

wow. this is really confusing....um....let's see.......

$25 for overnight, so there's an extra $5. if each person paid $9, then 9 times 3 is 27. 27 minus 3 is 24. .......

ok, start over. each person paid $9, not $10. so each person gets $1 so it equals $3. the clerk keeps $2. 2+3 = 5. so 5+25 equals 30. .................

your equation is kinda a little confusing hahaha, come on, explain...:D

ok, let's see if i can make this work........they paid $30 but in the end they paid $9 each. The room is supposed to cost $25. So to get the $30 that they paid, the clerk needs to return the $5. So he returns $3, but keeps $2. therefore you get the $5.
does that make sense?

um.....my answer? heh...um.....ok. The friends know that they paid $27 for the room. But the clerk knows that the room costs $25. so there is no missing dollar, right?

yes there is no missing dollar. You're not trying to find the thirty dollars - you're trying to find twenty five dollars - the 3 guys paid thirty, minus the 3 they got back, minus the 2 in the clerk's pocket - you're not supposed to add them when he gives it back, it's still part of the same thirty.

that's a little too short. and long complicated ones are fun. (I can't stand history but wait till I give my next riddle, it's brilliant!

Waiting For A Train: Every day, a wife picks up her husband at the train station at 5:00 p.m. One day he arrives early, at 4:00, and he decides to walk along the same road that his wife will be traveling. She meets him along his way, and takes him home from there. If he had waited at the train station, she would have arrived exactly at 5:00. But having met him along the way, they were able to get home 20 minutes early. So what time was it when she actually picked him up?
