Hello people.
I need to update my phone as my old blackberry curve is giving up the ghost. The screen is all scratched, some keys stick, the trackball gets stuck, bad reception in some areas, the camera takes terrible pictures and they are all blurry, and it has no internet (I'm sure I left some stuff out, lol).

I am in between Sprint's HTC Evo or the iPhone 4 from AT&T. I have accounts with both but I am thinking I'll get only one. I also like the Droid X from Verizon, but I'll have to open an account there and I don't really want to do that.

Anyway, do you have a smart phone? which one? What do you like about it or not like about it? What do you suggest?

If you don't have any but also want one, post here too!!! Post anything about smart phones!!

EDIT: Vote in the poll plz, even if you don't post.

Hmmm... tough choice to be honest.

iPhone 4 is crazy popular, it can do pretty much anything you could ever imagine a phone doing. I'm contracted with Verizon so I'm actually waiting for them to get the iPhone 4. If I wasn't under contract, I'd go with AT&T and get the iPhone.

My current phone is a newer BB Curve, and I love it by the way!

a vote for Verizon

BKing,
we have Verizon, so I voted for the Droid X. However my son who is in cell phone land --otherwise known as High School-- says all his friends who have Droids love them and they have a cool way to do security, i.e., just trace a pattern of your choice connecting 9 dots.

A while back we were reading up on Consumer Reports about cell phone companies and Verizon got really high marks on coverage and customer satisfaction although it is pricier than other plans. But it has been nice having this plan for us because when my husband or kids go up to the mountains for various camps or retreats and they can still phone home when other campers can't.

Happy shopping!

Yes. That's the sort of thing I'm worried about the Droid X and the Evo. They are susceptible to being hacked. If I get the Droid, I'll have to open an account at Verizon, like I said.

I do not have a contract with AT&T anymore. Once my contract ended about three years ago, I did not upgrade so I can leave anytime I want. AT&T knows that so they keep sending me all kinds of cool offers in order to get me into another contract, which I refuse to do.

With Sprint. I have about 10 days to cancel the current contract without penalties.

Ok, so I was looking at TDL on the iPone 4 today and it looked cool. But I still think the other phones are cooler. I'm going to Verizon tomorrow and check out the Droid X.

I would have a smart phone if I could afford it...mine is far from being a smart phone, but if I had to choose, I like the Droid from Verizon; I think it's the one that has all the STar Wars apps for it. ;) . That's the smart phone I'd get if I could. *Course, I'm also contracted to Verizon, so I kinda can't choose much else. haha.*

Today I looked at the Droid X from Verizon. I loved the phone, but things are a little pricey there. I looked at TDL on their browser and it loaded at lot faster than on the iPhone. it had some cool games also. And it's HUGE!!!! which is something I like cause you see... old people like me... well, something to do with vision loss, hahaha!! Still, I don't think I'll get it because of the price. The phone plans are costly and have less minutes than plans at other carriers. If I get it, with everything I want, it would probably be about 150.00 a month OUCH!!! Not to mention gotta dish out $300.00 for the phone at the start. So yeah, nice phone, ugly contract.

Tomorrow I'll take a second look at the HTC Evo from Sprint.

Yeah, that is the problem with Verizon. I don't know exactly what our plan is, but it's expensive (there are 3 phones on the plan). Mine required a minimum $10-a-month data package, plus the $5 250 texts a month I have. I could care less about the internet since I have a laptop, but to add unlimited texting to my phone is ridiculously expensive. Needless to say, I won't be upgrading my plan until I can pay for it myself. I guess they have to make money somehow.

*Oh yeah, and when we bought my phone, it was $100.00, and it isn't a smart phone; it's a regular phone with a flip-out keyboard. We got a $50 rebate, but still...it's dumb.*

OK. The HTC Evo from Sprint is also nice and also HUGE!!! The menu screens and how you get to the different applications and items seem a lot user friendlier than the Droid X. For some reason, I liked it better than the X. I'm not sure why but I think it looks nicer and easier to play with. The screen resolution is not as good, but you hardly notice it. Anyway, if you wear glasses, screen res is a non-issue, lol (wear glasses so I don't care, hahaha)

TDL loads just as fast as the Droid X so that was nice. The contract is not as pricey as Verizon, but I don't know how is the Sprint coverage. You also have to dish out $300.00 for it but you'll get a $100.00 mail in rebate. All in all, I would go with the Evo better than the X.

And I briefly looked at the Blackberry Torch and I was somewhat impressed! I will look at it in detail tomorrow. Stay tuned.

Hey people, I made my decision and went for the HTC evo.
I am actually writing this post with it. After about a month oor more searching I decided to go with it at sprint. I really like it better than the others. The Droid x was not so easy to use and I totally didn't like the iPhone!
I have 30 days to return it. but am having too much fun right now

And I used the voice to text for the two previous sentences!!!!!

I don't think I'd buy an iPhone even if I could afford it; there have been so many problems with the iPhones that it isn't worth it. Glad you found a smart phone! :)

I'm still loving my phone!! It's unbelievable the stuff it can do. And it looks so nice!! I am really glad I did not get the iPhone4. I would have missed on this great thing.

So far I've already used the weather apps, GPS, some games (I was sick of brick breaker on BB:p) music downloads, videos, task managers, flash player, internet browsing and posting, including to this forum, and many others.

I also already have documents in PDF, office, and others. There is just so much to do, I haven't even scratched the surface.

What I like more than the iPhone is it's unlimited data plan, the bigger screen, and the mobile hot-spot. yes, i can connect other devices to the internet, such as my laptop THROUGH the Phone.

I actually don't have a phone at all...but I do have an iPod Touch, so I'd have to support the iPhone - even though there are some pretty awesome smartphones out there.

I can understand that the iPhone has some problems, but the good points certainly outweigh the bad ones. Plus you can't go wrong with an Apple product.

Hey, yes Fantasma, if you don't know what to get at all, you just can't go wrong with apple. The problem is that there are lots of other things out there that are just as good. The Android system of the other phones is absolutely amazing. The stuff it can do!!!

I do have an iPod and we have an Apple laptop also. I know apple products are good, but I really think that in the area of phones, they are playing more catch up than anything else.

I don't know, I'm not too happy with the fact that after 2 years, the iPod starts to kick the bucket. Mine has been acting up for a few months, and I think it's ridiculous that Apple made them unreliable.

Much as I love having an iPod, for the amount of money you spend, they should last longer instead of 2 years.

That's true. I do think Apple makes better computers than phones, and I've heard a lot of good things about Android. The iPhone certainly deserves consideration, though. It does have a lot of features.

Apple does make their products reliable. My dad bought his iPod 3-4 years ago, and it's still going strong. I also have a iPod a few years old and it's still fine. What kind of iPod do you have?

It's a video nano. I think 4th generation? I don't remember, but the battery doesn't hold a charge for very long, and if connected to a cd/cassette adapter, it pauses if slightly bumped. I was told by a guy at Best Buy when we were looking at my first iPod that the batteries never last more than 2 years. Maybe that's changed, but it's pretty annoying when it doesn't hold a charge for very long and I have to charge it up once or twice a week.

Depending on it's usage, I can be charging my iPod twice per day. That's mainly because I play games & go on the internet, so the Nano is going to have a longer battery life, but charging it once or twice a week isn't too bad.

I'm thinking that if your iPod pauses when it's bumped on the CD adapter it has to do with the adapter, not the iPod.

Also, I'm not sure about the total battery life of the iPods, but if I'm not mistaken it's longer than 2 years. Not sure on that one.

I found this website published by Apple that gives some tips on how to conserve battery life. You may find it useful - http://www.apple.com/batteries/ipods.html
