Sonnets Here, In-House

~ ~ I wanted to place the following on the Introduction thread up top, for its content is such as to fit well there. But the last entry on that thread is by me; and for me to do a double post _there_ would not be taken as kindly as a double post on _this_ thread which is my own creation. So here is where I'll put it: one of my more pedantic products.

TO OUR NEW MEMBERS, A POETIC MAP
OF THE MAJOR SECTIONS OF T.D.L.

About the top half of the starter screen
Belongs to things directly Narnian,
From printed page to shooting some new scene;
Then scroll on down and you can party on.

The Inklings, Mister Lewis and his friends,
Are talked about, plus Fantasy at large.
"Socratic" topics look at means and ends;
Then Prayer Requests are handled by the barge.

The Lamp Post is a place where you'll immerse
Yourself in vast variety of themes.
Professor's Writing Club has prose and verse,
While Brush of Unicorn gives form to dreams.

In "Duffers" you can practice randomness;
Now start exploring here, and Aslan bless!

Thank you. Now, how about if you ladies post something on the Introductions thread, so that my copying the latest sonnet there won't be double posting on my part?

Forgive me for not commenting on the sonnet you wrote for me on here. I think I responded to it through the email you sent me, but it would have been nice for me to respond in the thread. Thank you again for writing it. It's beautiful as they tend to be.

Awesome!

Another For Smaug

Blank-minded, are you now? But praise the Lord
That you are not now cutting your own skin!
Far better to be sound in flesh, though bored,
Than letting foreign steel come jabbing in.

You wonder in your "Current Mood" if you
Will ever come on happiness again.
I pray for that, and sure as God is true,
There is a way out from the serpents' den.

High snowdrifts melt at last, if not in March;
The roots of weeds we pull, at last give way.
The pain of scraped emotions is too harsh
To laugh at--but there'll be another day.

Keep up your courage, my creative lass;
Recall the proverb that "This, too, shall pass."

Not everyone gets a double shot

I think Vanessa is the only TDL member for whom, up to now, I have written two sonnets in immediate succession. But now there is another occasion for "double sonnetizing."

To Smaug, Yet Again

Our wounds in life come in more types than one.
The outside scars, perhaps, should be concealed;
The inside scars may need to be revealed
Before God's work of healing is all done.

To stay up late: I know the tactic well.
For some, it's an escape, a breathing space;
But having breathed, sometime you have to face
Discomfort, in the effort to dispell

Whatever holds and smothers you. Somewhere
There must be some trustworthy soul to hear
About the things you hate, resent or fear,
So you can drop your load, and clear the air.

Among your female elders, there should be
Someone to help you bear things hopefully.

Very nice! And very true. Smaugie, or anyone who just needs to vent, or chat, you can always PM me and I'll get you my email and MSN IM.

Wunderkind was interested in being sonnetized; but so far I have not received any specifications from her of what she would like the poem to mention about her. Therefore, as on some other occasions, I have looked at her posting history for clues. And now......

God says the battle is not to the strong,
And wealth not always to the sharpest mind.
Your acting dreams may smoothly move along;
But don't set all your hopes there, Wunderkind.

Good guys may not find earthly happiness--
Watch Gladiator, and that's what you'll see;
But Jesus hovers near in our distress,
And murmurs, "Have a little faith in Me."

We may, or we may not, achieve our plans;
But God will work His will, and find a place
For us, though odd as Edward Scissorhands--
There is variety within His grace.

Young maid of seventeen, you're not alone
In learning to trust God for the unknown.

A rather different sonnet, for Lady Badger's benefit

How It May Have
Been For Ginger

I know they love me, and they would do more
To help me if they could...What is this chill
Beneath my fur? It wasn't there before,
When I had strength to gallop up a hill.

Give me another love touch, Mommy--there.
Your presence matters...Hey, what do I smell?
It's like a whole new kind of outdoor air!
Hey, Mommy, can you see this? Now I'm well!

Where did she go?--Ah, there she is, on Earth.
But where am I? I'm with--yes, I'm with
HIM!!!!!!
And He won't mind my digging in His turf;
It's He Who gave me strength in every limb!

What walkies I'll have here! What endless runs!
I'll do just fine, and wait till Mommy comes.

That is pretty cool! I wish I'd seen that when I first came on the forum. It was so big and large and I didn't know where to start.
