Yes, Reagan, it was for you. The old essay of mine, to which the sonnet alludes, used the scenario of chainsaws in the dark to illustrate the following truths about human interactions:
1) We can hurt others without knowing what we're doing.
2) We don't always know how to STOP hurting others.
3) You never know how people will react to real or imagined insults or threats from others.
4) Enlightenment given by God can make a great and sudden difference.
