Sonnets Here, In-House

The Last Sonnet I Will Write
For Carol Before I Marry Her

Shall I compare you to some living thing?
You are unique, your own one-person class;
You serve me fruit juice in a high-stemmed glass,
Then show me your techniques in gardening.

Your heart's as tender as your hands are strong;
You'll change oil in a car, then turn from this
To cooking banquets, offered with a kiss;
The list of your accomplishments is long!

You didn't get to play aristocrat
With me at RenFest; well, that milk is spilt,
But you can always make another quilt,
And purr at me just like a human cat.

I look forth to that morning when we're wed;
We'll break our fast with Finnish cracker-bread.

What a sweet idea! You are very talented Copperfox. I love the setiments towards other friends. I wish I never left the forum, though at 16 my parents did ban me from it against my will but I should have tried to come back sooner, I forgot what a happy encouraging place it is and I feel like all my friends that I once knew are all grown up and forgot about the little time I was able to spend here 7 years ago.

I wrote a sonnet (for Joseph, maybe) last winter while he was in Illinois.
...Not to be seen here, and while not too private, it is amaturish.
Much like my attempt at writing silly space-tween stories when I was in the seventh grade.
My forte is sewing of most any sort - quilting as of late, but currently making a wedding dress.
Just 12 more days and my life will change forever. I ask for prayers for Joseph and me as we adjust to a life together.

I just now sent this to my mother

Since on the weekend of this Mother's Day
I'll be, well duh, somewhat preoccupied,
I'm paying my respects to you this way,
Before I'm all absorbed by my new bride.

A coach, a cheering section, and a nurse:
These parts, and many others, you have played.
You carried out "for better or for worse,"
Through years which have not been a promenade.

Consider, in a world of entropy
And chaos, how it is that love exists,
Transcending matter and biology,
Not boxed in by the claims of scientists.

There's more to us than husks that will decay;
The last word over night belongs to day.

My First Sonnet
For Carol After
Marrying Her

Extemporaneously write I this,
Now that I've put recyclables outdoors,
Beside the common trash. My wedded bliss
Is helped if Carol's eyes can see my floors.

As ancient folk rebuilt the town of Troy
In layers, I created in mere years
Deep layers, which I now must redeploy.
Too bad it isn't hair, to cut with shears!

Some things have meaning, and can't just be pitched,
But can be given to my friends and kin.
Since now I have the bride for whom I wished,
It's better if my house can fit her in.

My Carol is a God-appointed gift,
So let's give more stuff to the store of thrift!

Oh are you cleaning out the garage :p This is a sweet poem :)

Karoliina,
I wish you oceans of happiness and a home flourishing with a multitude of beautiful growing things and wonderful cooking adventures, and of course, true love.

Copperfox,
it is true love indeed that puts poetry even in sorting things for the thrift store!

Another one for Karoliina, fact-based !

A couple with a girl and boy in tow
Were moving to our town; we heard at church.
The pastor, after service, made a search
For members who had energy to go

And help those parents move their household stuff
Up to the third floor of their new H.Q.
We went, and Karoliina, I'll say you
Did mighty deeds, did far more than enough.

There was no elevator, but you hauled
So many things upstairs, that I was moved
To keep up my own efforts. Dear, you proved
That "Lioness" you have been rightly called.

Sore muscles are your badge of honor now;
I'm that much prouder that you are my frau.

That was very nice of both of you.:)

A Get-Acquainted Poem For
NarniaLollypopGirl

This Kansas girl, much like the one in Oz,
Would rather no tornadoes came along.
When she's not scared, or suffering the blahs,
She'll be remembering that rainbow song.

She's legally adult, but keeps the best
Of childhood in her eagerness to please.
I hope with us she'll never be depressed;
We'd like to see more of her specialties.

Remember, Loli, that I've asked you for
A picture where my hero Emmett stands
Defying a chaotic dragon's roar
With armor-piercing rifle in his hands.

Go on from there to Hobbit, Dwarf or Elf;
But one day, draw a picture of yourself.
