Sonnets Here, In-House

We're due for a new one....

To Becca_Mickah

I think that almost half the folks I've made
My sonnet subjects, have dropped out by now;
Just in the time since I described Lu-Mao,
New names increasingly have been displayed.

A German, Scottish, Irish, red-haired lass
Arrives, with heart and mind which hate the force
Of tyranny; this hate is right, of course,
But keep your eye upon the actual paths.

The Third Reich won't be back--that road is blocked.
But evil from a different origin
Already thinks that it is sure to win;
So Becca, in the story you concoct,

Arouse your readers' minds to be alert,
Before their freedom falls into the dirt.

Hello there

Good thoughts, brother. Thanks for your nice comment about John and me.

For Lady Badger

To swim again, where once you nearly drowned,
Requires the will, not only sentiment.
You could stay safe on dry, nay, barren ground,
But length of life does not prove life well spent.

To mount the horse again, and risk the fall;
To build a fire for warmth, and risk the burn,
Brings up the question which confronts us all:
Is minimizing pain our chief concern?

Or shall we joust with life, and make it yield
The opportunity for love and song?
To win, you have to be there on the field;
The fear of loving makes us weak, not strong.

So love, yes, love again; it is allowed!
And you will be applauded by this crowd.

I just finished catching up... these are wonderful, Grandpa Joe! I am thoroughly impressed, by the writing style and your sense of who the people on this forum really are. I can't decide which sonnet I like the best, so amazing job on all of them.

JESSMORI is due to get one.

At barely thirteen, Jess, you're much too young
To think a monster lives inside your flesh.
Don't get obsessive like poor Mister Monk.
With knives, don't cut yourself, but cut the mesh

Which would entangle you in thoughts of death!
Of course we die, but dying pointlessly
Is, in the highest sense, a waste of breath.
Our world, or part of it, still waits to see

The dance which you'll reveal in your own time,
If you don't lose momentum, or lose faith
In God; it would be foolish, and a crime,
To take the dark road, when God's light is safe.

So many kids are sad! I hope you'll find
A way to leave the teenage angst behind.

For SeaStar

I've had a visit with the Merediths,
In their adventures wild and comical.
I will observe, as would your Donegal,
That wishes granted can be risky gifts.

Young lady novelist, I am impressed!
As far as I recall my teenage scene,
Of everything I wrote at age sixteen,
Your story can compete with all my best.

I'm pleased that you don't worship sorcery,
And sexy-vampire books are not your thing;
You know where one should put old Sauron's Ring;
Your choice of "spells"--is creativity.

If someday you break into cinema,
I pray you'll Jonah that new Nineveh.
