Sonnets Here, In-House

On Seeing "Voyage"
The Second Evening

Two worlds--by nature, allies--met tonight:
My RenFest pal Samantha went with me
To see "Dawn Treader," this time in 3-D.
Great was her pleasure, but the crowd was slight.

The seven-thirty show, on Saturday!
Where were the fans to cast their money-vote?
Is this the way to keep the ship afloat?
Will Fox be taught that good work doesn't pay?

Technicians, writers, actors did their part;
But with no audience, it's all in vain.
Will we let Narnia go down the drain,
Just when Mike Apted had restored its heart?

Shall cinema forget what's good and true,
Or will the fans of Narnia come through?
A very good and fitting poem!
Goodness Joseph, you are spot on again! We need bodies to go see and appreciate the amazing artistry of this film! (Uhhh am I preaching to the choir?)
I did my part I went! :D

Joseph, you never cease to amaze me with your ability to write fantastic sonnets. This is actually the first of them that both impressed and saddened me (obviously by the reality of the movies not doing well). Heartbreakingly wonderful.

The blame for this lies right on the doorstep of Andrew Adam-SNOT, who gave people cause to THINK that there would not be any more Narnia movies worth watching. "Once burned, twice shy" is on the minds of moviegoers who DON'T know the difference between Adam-SNOT and Michael Apted.

To All Those Who Wished
Me A Happy 59th Birthday

Between bronchitis coughing fits, with hands
Arthritic, even spastic, let me seek
To type my thanks to fellow Lewis fans,
Who noticed that my birthday came this week.

I've now had three straight Christmases alone!
That stinks as much the third time as the first.
But at my sister's roomy Oak Park home,
With family, the gloom was much dispersed.

I had an early birthday supper there,
With Russian books as gifts, most apropos.
Now I've got online greetings everywhere:
Old folks and young remember Uncle Joe.

Thanks, faithful friends, for honoring my life!
I'll let you know if I get one more wife.

For Miss Reepicheep

She knows how to pronounce words from the French,
With consonants which don't make any sound.
She brings fresh air to blow away the stench
When sexy-vampire mania's around.

Like lots of us, she's into VeggieTales;
But more than most, she'll cheerlead for a pal.
From topic-thread to topic-thread she sails,
Her comments boosting many folks' morale.

She's for homeschooling, as am I, and yet
She'd like to be an English teacher soon.
Somewhere, some children will be glad to get
A teacher with her intellect in tune.

I'm glad to sonnetize her; yet it's true
As well, that fair Vanessa asked me to.

My face hurts from smiling. xD Thanks, Copperfox! :)

Some people won't make the effort to look at older entries in an online topic-thread; so I shall re-post here a sonnet I wrote more than two years ago. This will show that I have highly esteemed Fernshirehobbit ever since--well, ever since the days when she was more consistently active on The Dancing Lawn!

{ { For Ferny } }

A college girl--young woman, I should say--
Befriends, and prays for, throngs of younger girls.
A Tolkien fan for life, she'll also stray
To writing of The Wood Between The Worlds.

But writings open to the eyes of all
Are not what Fernshire Hobbit's presence means
To me; for me, she's one whom I can call
To raise concerns, and pray behind the scenes.

I won't identify for whom we two
Have interceded, and made loving plans;
But "loving" was the format through and through,
As we entrusted friends to Jesus' hands.

Now, Ferny, it's yourself whom I commend
To Jesus, Who will be your campus friend.

Thank you, Joseph. :)
I need to remind myself constantly of the last part... He definitely deserves more than I give Him... He deserves more than we all give Him.

My first sonnet of the year 2011 is dedicated to the latest member of my large online family, and the first to ask to be allowed to use my actual last name as part of being "related" to me....

FOR ERIN RAVITTS

In fifteen years, you've seen too much that's dark:
A so-called in-crowd, boasting stupidly
Of their supposed gifts of E.S.P.,
Which bring no light to them, no, not one spark.

Unlike that highschool crowd, you now have come
To where nobody stabs you in the back;
And if in conversation we lose track
Of something, no one laughs and calls us dumb.

No nasty words or gestures here! We find
That we don't need those things to learn or teach.
Here self-improvement's never out of reach;
Each member helps another member's mind.

So here's an online hug for you, sweet child,
For in this forum, friendliness runs wild.
