Mistaken Identity:
It was dawn and the sun was shining brightly against the clear blue sky. The Trees looked lively and the thick grassy plains waved as if in a dance in the wind. Standing on the trail the Traveller looked around, he didn't seem to notice how nice of day it truly was, but that he stil lhad much ground to cover before nightfall. Attempting to save time, he decided to travel into the woodland. There he could came for the night and he felt it was deal safer and less easy to be spotted in. He fallowed the ruff rocky trail to the wood. There it ended and he stepped unto the soft and stable floor of the forest. Making his way into the wood, he noticed something ahead on the trail. At first he pulled to the side of a tree and drew hsi dagger. from the distance he was at he could not tell what it was, only that it's shape was like that of a wolf.
THe Traveller waited a moment and then moved slowly and quietly around the tree. With a quick movment he attempted to strike the creature. But before he did, the beast shouted. The Traveller stoped cold in his tracks and eyed the beast while holding hsi dagger in striking postion. The Traveller was taken back that the beast did not attempt to attack back. But what really bewildered the traveller was that the beast spoke. "King Caspian?" questioned the badger, for indeed it was a badger. The Traveller stood still motionless with dumbfounded look on his face. "King Caspian.. what are you doing out here in the wood and why are you dressed so strangly?" asked the Badger.
The Badger then looking at the dagger and asked "And what do you plan to do with that?" The Traveller took a few steps backward against a tree and lowered hsi dagger. His expression was beyond astonishment, it was sheer shock. "Are you alright my king?" asked the Badger. The Traveller fell to his knees and gasped. The Badger approached and tried to help the Traveller, but this only made things worse. At last after some silence the Traveller spoke. "What.. what are you?" The Badger looked at the Traveller with a confused look and then replied crudly "Well I'm a badger of course.." The Traveller with raised eyebrow said "and you can talk?.." The Badger then with conserned looked said "But of course.." "My king are you feeling alright?"
The Traveller responded with another question "Why do you keep calling me that?" The Badger looked further confused and replied "Why do I keep calling you what your majesity?" The Traveller pointed at the Badger and said "THat.. you keep calling me your majesty and king." The Badger putting his hands together and replied "Why because you are the king.." The Traveller looked deep into the Badger's eyes and said nothing. "Are you sure you alright my king?" asked the Badger. THe Traveller paused and then replied "Yes I am fine.." "I'm just confused.." The Badger took the Traveller's hand and said "Prehapes you've had too much sun.. come with me and have some tea."
Without objecting the Traveller fallwoed the badger to his home. The Badger's home was fine hole, filled with nice things such as: chairs, pictures, lamps, and beautiful oak table. The Traveller was marved by how it all fitted in the hole and how he himself was able to fit as well. Taking a seat the Traveller took a look at a rather intresting painting of a lion. Once the badger had come with some warm water, the Traveller asked "What's with the painting of the lion?" THe Badger looked at him oddly and replied "Why it's family treausre that's been passed down in my family". "It is said to have been painted by Queen Lucy herself and it remains as a constant reminder that one day Aslan shall returned."
THe Traveller took a sip of his now brewed tea and asked "Who is..Aslan?" The Badger spit out his tea and began laughing. "Now I know you've been toying with me your majesty". "Who is Aslan? pwah you are funny indeed my king." The Traveller took another sip of tea and asked this time with a sterness "Could you please remind me again who Aslan is.." The Badger with smile said "Very weil if you are going to play this game, then I'll play along.."
The Badger then began to tell the Traveller everythnig he knew about Aslan and the Kings and Queens of Old. He told him about the hundred year winter, the return of Aslan, and the Telmarine Invasion. As he explained the details of the Telmarine's dominon, the Traveller lowered his eyes and seemed rather troubled. Finally the Badger spoke of the tyrant Miraz and the reclaiming of Prince Caspian's throne and the restoration of Narnian's place in Narnia. The Traveller seemed in disagreement with the words the badger choose about Miraz and he almost flared up in anger once or twice. "And now.. you my King are the rightful ruler of Narnia." said the Badger. The Traveller nodded and responded "Yes indeed I am.." The Badger smiled and asked "Ah alas you are done with this sherade?." Looking intently into the Badger's eyes the Traveller said "Yes.. I am sorry that I played dumb and confounded." "And I thank thee for reaccounting all that has happened.. including my battle for my throne."
"It was nothing your majesty" replied the Badger. "I figured you were leading on, having me tell you all the events up tell now." I just went with it.. THe Badger smiled cheerfully. Looking out of the window the Imposter for that was now what he was said "I thank you for your hospitality.. my friend" "But I must now be leaving..." The Badger looked at the night sky and nodded. As they arose from the table, the badger inquired "Shall I fetch your horse?" THe Imposter replied "Oh.. I'm afraid It hast run off, back to castle no doubt.." The Badger eyed the Impsoter for a moment and then said "That's no problem, I'll fetch you a new steed" THe Badger walked out side and disspeared for a while. When he returned he had a black stallion behiend him. he directed the horse towards The Imposter. "This is Midnight.. he wil lsee you get to the castle at haste, "
Suddenly the horse spoke and said "It is my pleasure..no my honor to bare you tonight.. your highness." The Imposter looked at the horse oddly and then said with a sly tone "I thank you noble stallion for bareing me at such short notice." Midnight bowed his head and said "It is no trouble at all, your highness." After a few more kidn gestures and thanks The Imposter mounted Midnight and said fairwell to the Badger. Then like a bolt of lightning Midnight took off with THe Imposter riding on his back. Alas this Traveller now an Imposter has indeed shortened his journey to the castle...
