Chapter twenty four
Truly slaves

Creamy peered out of the window in the cell. He could just see out of it if he stood on tip-paw. The sky was grey, as if preparing for a great and terrible storm; indeed Creamy could see lightning in the distance.
What the young kit did not know though was that the valley of Ventargo was so wide and long that the storm was really about two or three days away.
Suddenly the kit heard pawsteps coming towards them. Two guards appeared along to take the slaves to work.

The slaves had been put into the dungeons of Ventargo's "capital" for the simple reason that there was nowhere else to put them that they couldn't escape from. Claw's troops had taken up residence in the un-inhabited ramshackle huts in the place and Claw himself had taken a room in the castle.
The dungeons were dreary and the kind of place that you typically think of as a dungeon, save for the fact that there were no rats.

Creamy was glad to get out of that place, but he may not have been if he knew what awaited him outside.

Claw stood outside the castle, whip in his paw and a evil grin on his face.
"Time to work little slaves." he hissed meancingly.

Fire, Jako, Creamy, Tansy and Pumpkin had never done any work in their lives that was harder than setting the dinner table at Reandalawo or tidying their rooms. This was real work though, something no kit or child should have to endure. This was slave's work.

The slave's first job was to haul timber from a nearby sawmill. All but the weakest slaves (including little Tansy) were made to do this. Tansy, since she did not have to work, marched up to Claw and demanded, "Why youse doing dis? We just babies! We can't work!"
Claw shoved his ugly face into her pretty little one and growled, "Slaves do not adress their masters in such a way as that!"
Tansy seemed not to have heard him and continued, "Toto says we free. We free and you can no understand it. He says and Mozart says dat the White Cat makes us fwee..." she was cut off as a whip cracked above her head at the same time as a distant boom of thunder.
Shady saw the whip and knew she should do something. She ran up to Claw the exact moment he was going to hit Tansy and yelled, "Claw! Claw! Look!"

The whip fell limply at Claw's side as he turned to Shady, perplexed and angry, "Look at what?!?" he demanded.
"Oh, its, um gone now, sorry."

Tansy scurried back with the other slaves and huddled close to them. She kept Toto's words in her head though, 'We are always free, in ways that evil can never understand.' it was the same words that Toto had whispered to himself when he was in a similar position as Tansy herself; helpless, a slave under a cruel master with only one hope. The hope that they would someday be free again.

When the beams had been brought over the slaves were made to push them up against the house and hold them there. Then they were forced to push them together to straighten the house. Next the weaker slaves were brought in and made to nail the beams in place.
When they had finished Fire thought that they would stop and be allowed to rest.

She was wrong. They were taken to another house and repeated the process.
Jako caught his sister as she stumbled, "C'mon Fire-Fire; 'member Mozart? She had to do stuff like this too, she had to fight Cogg and she won, lets win o're this too, what'da ya say?"
Jako's words were encouraging, and though she did not speak her response Fire straightened and went on with her task.

By lunchtime the slaves had finished three houses. They were allowed to rest and were given some water and a little food while their masters had lunch, but then it was time to continue.

By dusk the slaves had finished almost ten houses. When they finished the tenth they were taken back to their gloomy quarters.

"Dat was simply horribible!" cried Pumpkin when the guards had gone.
"And I betcha dey'll make us do it 'gain tomorrer." commented another nearby slave.
"I hope Mozart comes then, she'll free us!" said Fire confidently.
"Hope." said a soft voice, "Yes we still have hope, if not in mind then at least in body!" Hope walked out of a corner amid the laughter.
"Gud joke Hope!" giggled Jako.

Perhaps they would go to work tomorrow, perhaps not.
That night Creamy heard the great storm apporach. It hovered over them but did not strike....
Yet.

Chapter twenty five
Fire

A resounding boom echoed through the entire valley of Ventargo.
Fire awoke suddenly when she heard something that was extremly loud and extremly close.

BOOM

Lightening had struck stone. The throne room of the castle of Ventargo had been hit by a ferocious bolt of lightening. Stone does not usually catch on fire but this was something different. The storm swirled around Ventargo; thunder boomed and lightning crackled, but no rain came.

Some ran in the streets, others hid in their homes. Some old ones said that the wrath of the White Cat was upon them, and they were correct. Long had the Ventargoians forgotten the White Cat, now few remained who believed in the stories of Him. His wrath had now decended upon them for his servants were trapped in that place and He was angry, or so some thought.

Mozart was amazed. She had been awake and on guard when the lightening struck Ventargo and now she could see small flames jumping up from the stone palace. The old castle was burning. It had stood there for hundreds of years but was now torn apart by something it had always been able to defeat;
Fire.
"Ventargo burns." hissed Ribbony, "We must hurry!" for though his kit-hood home was much changed he still loved it, or loved what it had been. Ribbony's rage was equal to yours if you came home one day and found your house burnt down, with no-one there and could see none had tried to stop the flames.

The slaves made use of the great distraction. They rammed the door with their chains until it broke, then they ran up to the higher levels of the castle.
"Here I've got the key!" shouted Hope. She swiftly unshackled them and then still with their chains the slaves ran in a confused mass.

Creamy stumbled out of the castle. In each of his front paws he held one of his sister's paws. Jako followed nearby with Fire.
Swiftly Creamy took count of them, searching out Jako and Fire's near identical orange heads in the crowd. He saw one small head bob towards him. Jako popped up in front of him a moment later.
"Where's Fire?"
"I thought she was with you!" Jako said in alarm.
The two tom-kitten's eyes looked towards the burning stone with dread.

Warning: DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME WITH YOUR CATS OR KITTENS!!!

"Jak? Creams? Pumpkin?!? Taaaaaansy!!!! Where are you?" Fire cried out as she ran along the endless burning hallways of the castle.

Jako didn't wait for Creamy do say or do anything but he ran faster than he ever had before back into the burning stone castle.
"Fire? Fire! FIRE!!" he yelled, anyone still evacuating stared at him like he was crazy, others called back to him, "Yea we know there's fire, get outta here you goof!" but Jak went on, heedless of their cries.

Fire heard someone calling her name. By now she had been in the place for some time and had found the armory and taken a sword (only a short-sword for a full grown cat though it was purrfect for her) and a dagger. She looked altogether frightful walking through the smoke the same color as the fire around her. Never once did she cough at the smoke though, nor did she ever once get scorched by the flames that licked out at her.
"Jak, Jakie?" she called hesitantly.

"Jak, Jakie?" she called hesitantly.
“Over here Fire!”
“I’m coming!”
Fire saw her brother around the next bend. She hugged him tightly but he said, “We have to get out of here! C’mon!” he grabbed her paw and dragged her through the flaming corridors, Jako too never got burnt.

Suddenly their way was blocked by the fire. The only exit the two knew of was the front door, and it was blocked with fire.
It was the only entrance and exit too.

As if knowing they must go on this way and no other way the two held paws and Fire said, “I love you Jako.” And Jako said, “And I love you Fireheart.” Then they faced the fire, took a deep breath and jumped.

Fireheart and Jako jumped through the fire, the fire that would have scorched any other being save the White Cat or perhaps Alaya. The two turned and looked at each other.
“Fireheart.” Whispered Jako, “Fire-heart.”
“And you too Jako.” She said just as quietly. The breaking noise of stone interrupted them and they ran swiftly toward the entrance. Creamy, Tansy and Pumpkin waited there, staring in awe at the two of them.

“You went through da fire, Fireheart and Jako.” Tansy said, amazed at her two siblings.

But they had no time to ponder, for at that moment an evil laugh was heard echoing through a nearby alleyway.

Ahem; we are getting close to that Awsomeatic ending I keep talking about and heh I think its pretty good.

I need to be on the other computer though to update with that part. I don't think I have the intro to the end done though....
(this is also when my chapters start to get shorter... well actually it started in the last chapter but whatever ;))

Chapter twenty six
What Claw did

When the castle had been struck by lightening Claw and Nargie had been the first two out. No one saw them get out so Claw took it as the perfect time to iniciate his real plan.
Since Claw and Nargie had left out of different parts of the castle when Claw found his uncle he crept up behind him, claws and teeth bared. Nargie had turned just before Claw sprang, "Oh there you are Claw, I was looking for you; we need to get creatures to put the fire out..."
"Oh that shouldn't be your greatest concern now." sneered Claw.
Nargie relized what Claw was about to do, "You wouldn't kill your own uncle, would you Claw?" he stuttered.
"You think I came all this way just to reconstruct a ramshackle town? Ha! You are a fool! I will kill you and take over this place then make these creatures into soldiers to take over Reandalawo!"
Nargie stared and started to say something but Claw pounced before he could say a word.
"Now you die!" yowled Claw going in for the kill.

Shady had been looking around for Claw and she found him, first speaking to Nargie then attacking him. She stood frozen in terror, unable to do a thing.
When the terrible deed was done she ran and found Fire, but did not say a word.

Then the laugh came. Terror struck Shady and she cowered against Fireheart. A great dark shadow loomed up from the alleyway.
“To me! To me! A terrible thing has happened!” cried out Claw’s voice, “Nargie the king is dead, killed by the fire! I was with him in his last moments and he wished me to carry on his line! I am the king, bow to me!”

The bewildered creatures began to do as he said but Shady’s yell rang out,
“Don’t lissen to him! He’s a liar, I saw ‘im; he killed Nargie, ‘is own uncle I tell yew! Don’t lissen to him!”
“You liddle traitor, I’ll-” but he was cut short by a loud yell.

“CAAAATLITOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!!!!!!!!”

Everyone turned towards the source of the noise. Ribbony stood alone upon a ridge nearby, staring at the ruin of his kit-hood home.
A single crystal tear ran down the gray tom’s furry cheek, then he stood up tall and yowled;
“I am Ribbony, son of Cherry and I have come back to reclaim what is rightfully mine!” as he said these words he looked at the five little kittens who had led him there on a great chase from home to home; from paradise to decay; from happiness to madness. Ribbony let out another yowl and the LFF Catlition, Silverpaw, Braveheart and Shaggy appeared behind him.
Mozart’s voice rang out in the echo of Ribbony’s, “Traitor, destroyer, murderer! Get him! Get Claw! Get the one who caused us so much pain from the very day I first saw him! Now fight good creatures; for your homes, for yourselves, for your fallen leader and for freedom and the Great White Cat!”
With her last words the group charged down the hill and into the streets. Claw’s forces joined them in the climatic battle, fighting for their leader and all his false promises to them. Most of the Ventargoians decided to fight on behalf of the group with the better speech and so were fighting for Ribbony and Mozart’s side.

The fighters were joined by two very peculiar creatures. They were old, perhaps older than Ribbony, and had the look of wolves only smaller and with kind, bright eyes. These were the only two dogs that had ever been known in that world who were real dogs without a drop of wolf blood in them. Their names were Bee and Minna but they come into this story very little.

In the midst of all the fighting Claw seemed to have disappeared. Fireheart sought him out but could not find him. Finally she saw him; he was leaning against a building, concealed by shadows, hiding you might say.
“Claw!” she shouted to him. He turned towards her and laughed. She drew her sword and stalked towards him.

Lots of excitement in that update!!!:D

And it only has more action until... well I won't tell that either.:p;)

Chapter twenty seven
Shady’s friendship

Fireheart walked slowly over to when Claw waited. No-one got in her way or tried to fight her as she went toward her advisary, for she walked with a purpose to great for any to intercept.
When she reached him the battle began. His claw's went down on her little sword, with Fire just barely blocking him in time.
It went on like that until Fire's muscles began to ache and her head started to throb. She missed a beat once and oh...

Claw flicked Fireheart’s sword from her paw. It flew across the ground, and landed elsewhere in the midst of the battle.
“Now I’ve got you!” snarled Claw, he raised his paws, the great terrible claws out poised to strike…

Shady stared at the scene. Up till then she hadn’t been sure who she was fighting for, now seeing her only real friend in danger, Shady sprang up, grabbed the nearest sword and ran at Claw.

Just as Claw was plunging his paw down, Shady intercepted him with her sword.
“NO!” she screamed, “You’re not gonna kill Fire!” and with that sword Shady not only saved Fireheart’s life, but she cut the sword across Claw’s claws and destroyed the deadly daggers that protruded from Tigerclaw’s paw forever.
With a roar of rage, Claw hit Shady away with his now blunt claws. He raised his other paw to kill Fire, but Shady sprang up again, and ran forward.
The kitten didn’t even have a sword that time, but Shady ran and stood in front of Fire, and saved her friend’s life, at the same time giving her own.
Claw’s legendary deadly claws crashed into Shady’s chest with horrendous force. Shady fell limp at Claw’s feet.
