He's not; he's playing the older Bilbo, and i have a feeling it has to do with tying in Hobbit to Lord of the Rings because Elijah Wood is also slated to be in the movie. I wonder if PJ is planning on showing how Frodo came to live with Bilbo?

That would be kind of cool. This is very exciting! I can't wait to see how they make the connections and what kind of back story will be invented. Will we see Saruman before he was evil? Will we see Gandalf battle the Necromancer? So excited!

Technically Saruman was already evil at this point, just not publicly. But it would be cool to see the White Council meeting at an undestroyed Isengard. It looked so beautiful in FOTR, but we only got to see a little bit before it was wiped out.

The Hobbit is going to be awesome! Peter Jackson will do a fantastic job!
A bit of bad news: The actor who signed on for Fili had to quit for personal reasons :( but it shouldn't harm the filming as they're now shooting all the scenes when Bilbo is alone.

I havent read the Hobbit yet, but someday I might.

I read there will be some characters in the movie that werent int eh book. Like Galadriel (Cate Blanchet), Legolas (Orlando bloom), Itaril (Saoirse Ronan), and Saruman (Christopher Lee).

Yes. Part of the purpose of this movie will be to bridge the gap between the Hobbit and the Lotr. Though Galadriel was not in the Hobbit, she is a key player in events that are taking place in the background (as mentioned in the Sil). Legolas is the son of Thrandule (the elven king who captures Bible and the dwarves) so it makes sense that he would be around in the kingdom... being himself somehow. :) Saruman is also a key player who is involved with councils, which Galadriel attends. :)

Fili and Thranduil have been cast!!

Dean O'Gorman has been cast as Fili, while Lee Pace has been cast as Thranduil (Leggy's daddy :D ). I have no idea who either of them are.

I saw that, too, and like you, had no idea who the actors were. Oh well, I think they will be good. :)

I think with the second movie they will add parts from the appendix and build the bridge to LOTR. I'm very excited and nervous about it because I really love anything LOTR related! I wonder what Smaug will look like :D

That is one of the things I'm hoping to see: Smaug. I hope is better than the dragon Eustace from VODT. It has to be.

No doubt. Just as Gandalf is the archtype of the modern fantasy wizard, Smaug is the archtype of the modern fantasy dragon. He has to look as awesome and convincing as any wizard.

Fili and Thranduil roles.....

As some of you will very well know these two roles are filled by Dean O'Gorman who is a New Zealand actor(Fili). His claim to fame before "Fili" is a Local New Zealand Television series called 'The Almighty Johnsons'. Peter Jackson was very impressed with his works.

Last but not least someone I have not heard of is Lee Pace who is an Ämerican actor-his claim to fame I believe was in 'Pushing Daisies'.

Hugo Weaving

was also spotted here in Wellington, New Zealand and a nice photograph of him and Peter Jackson together.

Remember Hugo, he played Elond in the Lord of The Rings!

What do y'all think of the new dwarf pics, and of Freeman as Bilbo?
And have you seen the three production diaries? They're awesome!

I just saw that video yesterday and about died from laughter! LOVE seeing Richard Armitage in the Dwarf costume! I can't wait to see this in theatres, well, maybe I can, but it is hard!
