The MLG

For those who have been paying attention to the fears thread, you know that there is a Mysterious Little Girl (MLG) on board the Dawn Treader. What do you all think of this, how is she going impact the plot, why is she there? Give your speculations here.

I thought for a second you were talking about a Major League Gamer. :D

As far as plot influence, I hope its not major. If they stick to the original theme and stay true to the events that occur, no problem with me.

My insane theory:

When Susan got back to England, she discovered she was pregnant and knew who the father was: Caspian. She couldn't exactly tell her parents what happened and was therefore punished by them and was sent to a school for unwed mothers.

Susan eventually had to give her daughter up for adoption, shaming the family (back then), which is why the parents knew they had to take her with them on Mr. Pevensie's US trip. They could no longer trust her and had to keep an eye on her.

The adoptive parents and MLG suddenly found themselves transported to Narnia when MLG was about 5-years-old. They were found by Drinian wandering and he welcomed them with open arms. He gave the father a job helping to build the Dawn Treader while the motehr and MLG fouind a house nearby.

Father was soon given a job aboard the ship and mother was allowed to be the ship's cook while MLG got free reign of the ship. Everyone on board always commented how similar MLG looked like King Caspian and when Lucy and Edmund came aboard, they couldn't help noticing their resemblance to her as well.

As they get to know each other, it is discovered that the family came from England and one thing leads to another, making everyone realize the truth of MLG's parentage.

I haven't figured out why she would jump off the ship yet. Give me time. :D

Well, MrBob, I would probably go for that story and just imagine myself that I am watching something that looks like Narnia story. Just like I did for PC!!!

In our own world, in the era of sailing ships, captains did sometimes bring their children with them at sea. The girl could be the daughter of Caspian's captain.

Here is my (not so) far-fetched theory:

Rhince's wife was on a beach in or near Narnia and a pirate ship comes and kidnaps her. Rhince goes to King Caspian with a request to go search for his wife. Naturally, their daughter must also go with him considering he has no other care-taker for her. Upon reaching the Lone Islands (in fact, Lord Bern's estate), Rhince sees his wife working there as a freed-worker and calls out "Elaine." MLG also sees her and calls out to her mother, jumping off the boat. Rhince follows. It is a happy little reunion. great human interest story.

Thus the "unfathomable fate" discussed in the press release is Pirates stealing people off of Narnia's coasts. And in stopping Pug, Caspian is freeing his country from it.

Welcome, Sarah! I did not see you post before.

MrBob is just making a joke about Susan's being the mother of the MLG! Of course she is not. That's just silliness.

My theory is: the mother and daughter are Narnians who were captured by slavers. I believe slavery is going to be the theme of this movie because Michael Apted of Amazing Grace fame already has this anti-slavery background. I think they're going to make the threat of Calormene slave traders a real crisis for Narnia, and VDT will be all about stopping the slave trade, with some other adventures thrown in.

I think Gael and Elaine, apparently the names of the MLG and her mum, are probably Rhince's wife and daughter and he's come along on VDT specifically to find them and rescue them.

This sounds like a huge departure from the plot of the book, but I think it might also give us more adventure and danger, so I think it can be well done.

I have no basis in reality for this except the slavery/Apted connection.

The MLG is "Mary Sue" **. For those of you who have read enough bad wish-fulfillment fanfics about Mary Sue, you'll understand what I mean, and let me tell you bub, she didn't jump, SHE WAS PUSHED. :D

** (On some Narnian Fanfic boards and forums, "Mary Sue" is a general reference to a character, usually a young lady, who gets into the wardrobe and represents the author(ess), beating all the men at swordplay and archery, having the most golden hair, the purest blue eyes, the most luscious red lips and the sharpest mind in eight counties, none of them underwater.)

Woah! *starts googling* :p

inkspot and ~Lava~ both have good theories...either one of those sounds plausible. And I think it would really help to paint Gumpas as a weak-hearted man, and Pug as a very nasty man. ;)

MLG is just what we're calling her:

Mysterious Little Girl

Because we don't know who she is, but in the video, when she jumps Lucy cries out, "Gael!" so probably she is Gael.

How do you know she's not shouting "GAOL!" (modern spelling, "Jail"). We can excuse her for not calling it "The Brig" because she never got to see Errol Flynn in "Captain Blood"... :p

Still not a very far fetched idea in the world of movie making!!!!

I read somewhere that in the casting call, they were looking for someone to play Gael ... which is how we know how to spell it.

Now I am going to lock BK and ES in Jael until they stop being silly ... this could take a while ...

Yeah, I had heard it too. Thus Gael, but is this little girl Gael? This is why MLG is a more appropriate name until we know.

Just cuz Lucy seems to be calling out, "Gael!" when she jumps, in the video. It's not certain I suppose...
