oh brother. thats one thing that annoys me: People who sit there and read a book and point out every single little mistake that the author made. really! its annoying..:p not saying anything directly to YOU, Silvanus. but..I've known alot of people like that...

when ppl say "CP ought to have his brains bashed out!" and "I can write way better than him!!" bragger...shut up..

yeah..ppl have actually said that..

First of all, there's no proof that CP made a mistake. He could explain some things in Book III. Also, authors tend to make mistakes sometimes. I've made them myself, and I have to write completely new chapters and rewrite plots to get themistakes figured out correctly.

Zee great battle of Lepanto!
I love that simley! :p

And what about the Battle of Bannockburn? Yet, I agree to what Silvanus said... the Varden were indeed foolish to thrust themselves so challenged and checked into such a battle. If, indeed, such bellicose event was to be written in an epic or to be sung, if would be sort of shameful. The Varden should have been defeated!! And what a painful defeat! You see, it'll make me glad to know some books or to recall events that have suffered such grievous losses. I say this with the following: Enghlish VS Scots, the Battles of Stirling, Falkirk, and at last, Bannockburn. Edward Longshanks could not afford that such a horde of barbarian like Scots had given him to his armies one of the most shameful and disastrous defeats in history.

And I keep going: What do you think how the English would feel about such an event? And, what do you think about the history of English? Can't you see it or grasp it even by the bittest glimpse? Their history, their culture, their former victories. It was not in Britain and all his lands were treaded by great heroes and it was told of great epics?

Now, can you see it? And I'd like to give another example: WWII and the fall of Germany. Such a war was, in my opinion, because of such strong will and power in both mind and arms of Hitler and his nation-army, thae, if he had so much right to wage war and obliterate Jew (though I disagree with him and all the nazism and that sort of stuff), why the rest of the world would not have the same right to stop him?

I leave you to pondering... with this question:

Throughout all the time, what tribe or nation was to be considered the first evil, or who suffered the most horrible disasters in war? How can you distinguish between some 'almost-really' cruel barbarians and those whose culture and evolution has been earned well, for bellicose purposes... and odd aftermaths and designs?

I hope your answers.

And a review ought to have some good comments in it.

I recommend you the Web page antishurtugal.com

You ought to see it why there are some kinds of revision like the one you've been complaining. I mean, when somebody didn't take his job too serious (because Eragon is not even a homage to The Lord of the Rings, such trilogy would need hundreds of years to earn indeed a homage, and Inheritance trilogy is not one of them, and should not be).

But for my sake... I hope that Web page is still 'alive'.

Besides, and before I go out from this... If you read my thread 'Welcome to Epic Earth' and see my list, I tell you, the Inheritance trilogy is somewhat worthy to be in such a list. But if Empire happens to be a whole crap, all of the books of Inheritance will be erased for good. Because I tell you this... Do you really think Paoilini could compare himself with the great masters and authors of the classical epics? (and Tolkien is one of them)

He's a good writer, but I wouldn't compare him to them. There is a difference between just books and literature. Tolkien is literature. So is C.S. Lewis.

That's a good statement, way to go for you! I agree with you with this...

Do you really think Paolini can compare himself with such authors, and even with the authors of big and clasical epics?

Besides, we should think the background in which these epics were written, what do you think is Paolini's background? Does he know exactly what is the epic? His books are mere fantasy, and even they should be more in children's literature. I say this because the Nibelungenlied and other epic are much better, lengthy and violent than Inheritance books series.

And agains, we come back with the background of the author of classical epics. What do you think how were feeling Homer, Virgil, Ludovico Ariosto, Jonh Milton, Edmund Spenser and a huge host of authors? Don't forget Tolkien and C.S. Lewis...

I hope your answers. Let this be known to all in this forum. And check my thread 'Welcome to Epic Earth' so that you may comprehend what I'm talking about.:)

Eldest Review
Bye: Silvanus #2 Review

Overall: 4.75 – Needless to say, Eldest isn't the worst book I’ve read.

Of course you don't!!.... just wait until Paolini publishes his book III, and, why not, harass us all with his wacky theories and spoilers (in all the wicked and bad sense of the word) with the Varden and Brom. If Murtagh does not make a safe journey through all the books, what can we hope for Brom in the past?

The books are so good but the movie disappointed me also...it was way too rushed and if you didn't read the book i don't know how people understood the movie

Just think the movie was a horrid and nasty sequel to Dungeons & Dragons!!

HOLY....COW!! That is a bunch a crap for sure!!

Perhaps Murtagh and Durza, they could have saved the movie, and Brom, too.
But.... ooorrhhh, D&D!! Please, and they dared to film a sequel.

Well, to be like Puddleglum, I'll say this: at least they'll probably won't ruin the 2nd one as badly as they did the first :D (let's hope!! At least Fangmeier has some directing experience now :D)

That's it. And, with all respect, this should be seen by all, from the hardcore fans to the hardcore detractors... from those of shurtugal.com to the ones of anti-shurtugal.com

Eh, why not? But till then, ya'll have to be satisfied with my first two reviews.

Now, I would've gone into a bunch of ancient military strategies, formations, and the such, but I:
1) Had/have very little time.
2) Didn't feel like it. Especially since I have yet to run into someone on these forums who knows even what a kopis is (and yes, this means that those of you who don't should run over to Wiki).

Maese, I'm wondering what point of history is your strong point.

Yeah...........its just a freakin' book. dont really need to get into all this dumb military formation stuff....Paolini can write his wars, battles, however he feels like. its fantasy...in case you havent noticed..its not in ancient Rome..

Maese, I'm wondering what point of history is your strong point.[/QUOTE]

Sorry if I ask you this, but what do you mean, about the ones that you've mentioned or... something else?

But, I hope this may seem an answer to you.

One of the things I've noticed in Eragon, is, again, the typical characters, Paolini doesn't even make an attempt to make them more human (though they are monsters... in whatever sense you might want to understand, and also, even a monster should feel ashamed with such a comparison). I know that Paolini is studying medieval and modern history... I just hope that those classes really teach him some history, so that he can be able to write one.

As I'm writing my story, though I've finished, but I'm editing by amonut of knowledge I have about grammar and vocabulary (since I'm mexican, but English was easy to me), I've spent six years writing it. Even so, I hope that there will some years to come into reviews and editing, and in one of those I'll have at last the copyrights, and also, to finish the translations into Spanish. Another thing I want to say, since I'm studying Philosophy in the university, it has helped me a lot, and of course, reading books of history, reading the great classical epics, and watching history programs, reviewing the books of many authors and versions about some great exploits of famous historical events and characters. Yes, it's quite lengthy, but it's handy too.

Phew! Another thing I dreamt about the Inheritance trilogy will be some troubles (real troubles) in Alagaesia, the feelings and desires, which would not longer be personan anymore but collective, and, with the differences of the races, and even for those bugrlars, or hidden barbarians and even the mosnters, should have feel in the same way, and who know who could be affected the worst?

I hope this may bring you a glimpse of an answer to your question. But again, tell me with more exact words what did you mean with that question?

Indeed, no offense, I'm young and there are some things that might slip past unchecked with that kind of questions... but not anymore.

Hey, thanks for the link. That made me laugh for a while... but I hoped other things... I was hoping something more... well more.

Anyway, and sorry for the abrupt change of topic. But, has anybody of you ever seen the Battle at Kruger. THAT IS SO EPIC!! It's like 300, but only in wildlife. That means, instead of Spartans and Persians, we have lions, hyenas, crocodiles and african buffalos.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LU8DDYz68kM

THAT IS SO EPIC!!:D I've never seen anything like that!!

But I must warn you, if you don't like the documentals of wildlife because of their gore content (though it's totally natural... you know, there's no room enough for sentimentalism, it's nature's law), YOU MUST NOT SEE IT!!

Even so, there is surprise waiting for you at the end, for the ending is just... SO EPIC!!:D:D

I wonder, if the movie Lion King was made like that... Of course I will add it with more fame to my list of epics.

And now, here I return with the main topic of this thread:

Is there going to be out a dictionary of the ancient language from the books, aside the excerpts who come in the books already?
