Sir Godfrey

Pelegrin Crucis
I been watching The Secret of the American Teenager since it aired and I must say It's pretty interesting show. It's one of few shows out there that dares to present a topic so controversial as teen pregancy and the in workings of High School teens.

I've caught up on the episodes I missed during the marathon that aired tonight and tomorrow (monday) I will be tuning into the new season. I was just wondering if there was anyone else who likes the show or has any comments. I also have poll for favorite character.

Also here is link to ABC.com were you can learn more about the Secret Life of the American Teenager. Link: http://abcfamily.go.com/abcfamily/p...f-The-American-Teenager/page_Shailene-Woodley

I watched part of one episode and I was pretty disgusted. my reasons for not seeing it are: 1. My parents probably wouldn't allow it and I'm not going to argue, 2. http://www.pluggedinonline.com/tv/television/a0004326.cfm; while the show might be promoting not getting an abortion or the fact that there are consequences to promiscuity, the show, as the article above states, does not sell abstinence. That, in my opinion, is a good reason to skip over the show.

and did I mention I was disappointed with who plays Amy? She was in the film, Felicty: An American Girl Adventure and when I saw that it was her, I was pretty disappointed. Yes i know, I'm a party crasher and a wet blanket and old-fashioned. But I don't really care. Puddleglum and i would be good company for each other. :p

I love this show. and even though it's about teen pregnancy it doesn't glorify it . instead it actually has a small message after the show about teen pregnancy and about talking to your parents and a doctor if YOU are pregnant.
It also shows teens how much your life can change because of this 'small' thing.

Petra:*high five* Exactly what I wanted to say,but didn't have the courage.:D

Yeah,I was pretty sad to see what had become of that little girl since Felicity, but hey..thats what happens to them all today.:(

I love your banner.:D

SirG..There are lots of shows dealing with teen pregnancy, aren't there?I mean I've heard of several, and even old shows had episodes surrounding that....

thanks, I don't even remember where I found my Ed banner. haha.

personally, I think teen pregnancy is everywhere in the media. The problem I have with the show is, it does not promote abstinence *sp?* and\or waiting until marriage. That's why I won't watch it. It glorifies just the opposite. And I'm afraid that this topic\show might be a bit TOO adult for the forum.

I agree the show is infact trying to teach teens about the consequences of being promiscious and that if you do have pre marital sex your whole life will be changed. As for these quoted other shows, I've never heard of them and I doubt they would appeal to today's teens. What is important is the message that this show is trying to convey. It may not selling absitinace, which is a strange term to me, but it promotes it. As theorangejellow has already said at the end of every episode it encourages teens to talk to their parents about sex or if their pregnant.

I wll agree not all the characters have little halos around there heads, but this show is suppose to be a drama, not Little House on Priaire (which is a great show). It's important not to judge something with just a glimpse, but instead investigate and tune into a full show rather then 15mins and decide. If everyone decided with glimpse, then a lot of beloved books would not have been published including the beloved Chronicles of Narnia.

Too adult? That's strange because if someone made a thread about purity or TrueLoveWaits, then it wouldn't be deemed adult. Yet still people would talk in that thread about waiting tell marriage to have sex. So I don't see the problem here, afterall Gilmore Girls has promiscuity and It's on this forum.

I agree with Jeff. This topic is NOT too adult for this forum. There have been topics made which are still up and which contains the things people would flip over as soon as they see it. Can't we just for once look at the mesage instead of flipping over the characters? Almost all actors or actresses have something done which isn't good.

Thanks Vanessa, yes why can't we see things for what they are. This is a show about a teen who gets pregnant, who learns she made a big mistake, but is going to live with the consequences. She is going to take care of her baby first, before herself. I believe the message besides abstinance is pro life. Sure abortion becomes an option in series, but the main character doesn't go through with it and there are characters, even Christian characters who arn't for abortion, so you can't say this show is pro abortion.

Yea -
I mean there is one character who is very christian who at first thinks that the girl is horrible for being pregnant but then changes.
Give the show a chance
I truly believe that your views may changed
instead of acting prejudiced towards it.

well unfortunately I base my opinions about things on CHristian reviewers who've seen episodes and if they say it's bad, then I can't say they don't know what they're talking about because they've seen the show. I do that with nearly all my films and tv shows I want to watch, even though the tv I watch is mainly re-runs like Walker, J*A*G, or older shows such as I Love Lucy.

THis show doesn't promote abstinence. Yes it shows the consequences, but does it really make you think twice? Do they sell safe sex?

Aravis we've gone through these motiosn time and time again. If you don't feel like you can watch it because you read some reviews from other Christians than don't watch it. I personally see it as pro abstinance and pro life. Just because other characters in the series are making bad choicies dosen't mean the show is bad. afterall the creator is Brenda Hampton who created 7th Heaven which is another show I love. So I know the intention behiend this series thank you very much.

Aravis
they may not 'sell' safe sex so clearly
but if you read between the lines yes -
Even the main character says
I wish i hadn't done it - I mean she didn't even know she was doing it from what i remember and IT is something she regreted.
And it's partially true - because people go through this - and one cannot blind themselves from reality.

My favorite Character is Amy's sister - Sir Godfrey
Ashley
But for some reason I didn't vote for her - lol.

I love this show!! I really hope Grace doesn't give in to Ricky's flirting and I hope Amy and Ben end up together. Ben is good for Amy.
Did anyone think that the way they ended the show's season was terrible? I thought it was random to have their parents just break up, you know...
