Ultimate Brisingr/Book IV Theories Page

The title of Book IV

This is the topic that has the most possibilities. Personally, I’m not expecting an answer until after Brisingr is released. At the earliest, the title will be announced at the end of Brisingr, but considering Christopher Paolini waiting so long before announcing Brisingr, I’m expecting a title to be announced once Book IV is close to being finished.
Quite a few titles are possible, but, as Paolini said, the title could easily be “Bubbles for Buckfish”. Had he kept up with his six-letter theme starting with E, and if Book III was named Empire, then I would have said that Book IV would be Ending. However, “Ending” is now only one of many possibilities. Others include Saphira, Inheritance, Shur’tugal, and many others. (If you seriously think that Glaedr is a possibility, please either knock me out or risk being banned from the Order of Dragon Riders.)
“Inheritance” is likely, but not as likely, because it was the original title for Eragon, before it became the name of the cycle. I seriously doubt that Christopher would call it Inheritance, because it would be too vague for Book IV.
There are many reasons why “Saphira” would be a poor title, but let me put it this way: if Saphira does die, as is looking awful likely at this point, then it’d look pretty bad for the title to be named after her. A few other reasons include Saphira appearing in the book only a few times, her emotions in the book being tied with depression, and quite a few others that I’m sure you can think of yourself. Some reasons why Saphira would be a great title is because it would hint, before you even read the book, that Eragon does eventually reunite with her. However, don’t expect Saphira to be the book title.
In my opinion, Shur’tugal is extremely likely. In case you don’t know, Shur’tugal is the ancient language word for “Rider”; more specifically, “Dragon Rider”. This would indicate that, in the end, Eragon does still love Saphira, and is with her in the end. More practically, we have nouns for titles so far: Eragon for a person, Eldest for a place (a place in a family), and Brisingr for a thing. All that’s left is an idea, and Shur’tugal is the idea that a Rider is eternally bonded to his dragon. That sums up, not only the book, but the entire book series.
P.S. –No, the book is not called “Brom Is Gandalf in Disguise.”
