Tsk, tsk, old buddy, remember that this isn't the Monologues thread--it was not created solely for the sake of contradictions. But the glitch can easily be remedied--if you yourself invent NEW characters, who can be supposed to have arrived AFTER the first set left the original room. THOSE, not Ivan and Meridia et al, would be the ones assaulted. But I do kinda hope Mike Tyson does eventually find Dayhawk's characters...and gets barbecued by some energized subatomic plasma.

Lisbeth climbs down the shaft after Ivan and the calls up to Raj. She then turns and sees the monster, dead. "So," she said. "that's what it was." Very strangely, she was not startled by the sight of it, as she had seen creatures rather like it before.

Darron climbed down after Raj and he too saw the monster. He shuddered, hopeing that there weren't more of those hanging around. He to, had seen creatures resembling it.

Elsewhere in the labyrinth, Vissarion encountered, not another demon, but a group of Russian peasants. Here, they could understand each other. The eldest, a man called Yuri, seeming only a little older than Vissarion, explained that they were from a story some American military veteran had been planning, part of whose action took place in Arctic Russia around the White Sea port of Arkhangelsk just after the Bolshevik takeover. "There were at least two good things about being whisked away to this place," the Russian man told Vissarion: "There are no Bolsheviks here, and from time to time we discover chambers where food and other necessities of life are there for the taking."

"I wish I could tell you more of the reasons we are here," said the redhaired sworsdsman, "and I wish I could linger to hear more of your experiences. But I might bring danger upon you if you stay near me." He pointed back in the direction he had come from. "Back that way, you might find some other people who have also been transported here without knowing why. To the best of my knowledge, they are NOT being specially hunted by the enemies who wish to murder me."

After speaking with his wife Anfisa, Yuri decided to lead his group in the direction the scarred warrior indicated. The peasants took their leave with thanks. Vissarion had a parting word for them: "If you see some remarkably exotic-looking women in that group, DON'T antagonize them."

Lisbeth suddenly noticed the circle and V mark on the wall. "Look!" she said, "Vissarion was here. He must have killed the creature."

The three elemental women were first to find other V-marks left by the warrior of Trantea; tracing these back revealed a sort of ladder by which Vissarion must have descended to this level; but the big red-haired man seemed to have gone off in a different direction since dispatching the tentacled monstrosity. The elemental women could not immediately detect any further sign of him; they did, however, sense that a crude, hulking man who had committed theft, rape and wife-beating in his lifetime was blundering around someplace on the upper levels.

Suddenly, Lisbeth steped on a board that wasn't very stable anymore, and her foot went right through it. She screamed in surprise and then in fear as something below snapped at her foot. Scrambling away from the hole, she stood, panting and trembling.

Lisbeth couldn't help noticing that both Darron and Ivan had reflexively sprung toward her as if to catch her. Seeing that she was all right, Ivan tried to look as if he _hadn't_ really cared what happened to another person, while Darron tried to turn his movement into something that would still serve a purpose. Crouching down, Darron tried to see what might be in the space below the hole in the floor; but nothing was visible.

Just then, Yuri and Anfisa came leading the rest of the Lenin-era Russian peasants in their direction. Jade took no notice of them, since no one among them appeared either dangerous or attractive to her.

"If you know of Russia," said Yuri the elder to Lisbeth, "we are from there. From Arkhangelsk Province on the White Sea, east of Norway and Finland. We escaped to this place, Бог знает каким способом --God knows how."

"Escaped from what?" asked Ivan, interested.

"From Lenin's люмпен-thugs," replied Yuri's wife Anfisa. "Lenin was allowed to live when HE opposed the Emperors, but he says now he won't make the mistake of letting anyone live who opposes him."

"Whatever happens to us here," said Kolya, the nearest thing to a handsome young man in the group, "at least MAYBE we won't starve to death. We found food laid out in several rooms, almost all of it still fit to eat."

Suddenly the youngest woman in the peasant crowd caught sight of the monster's carcass on the floor, and gasped just slightly. "She didn't scream," noted Raj.

The girl, named Galina, turned toward Raj and said simply, "Where we came from, there are MEN who have made themselves as monstrous as whatever that thing is."

"hmm lovely."
"Men are like that," Jade laughed, "poor stupid creatures, no offense guys," she said to all the men.
"You have to forgive her, where she's from men are anal about being civilized. Her planet doesn't do well with violence, and those who cause are considered barbarians."

"Since you are so civilized," the woman Anfisa said to Jade in a deadpan tone, "if you ever get to Germany, perhaps you could teach better manners to a German Communist WOMAN named Rosa Kleb, who right now is leading an attempted takeover of Germany; she's trying to put THEM under the same tyranny Lenin forced on us."

"Ger-what? Is that a planet? What Galaxy? And if she wants tyranny, manners would have to be in the form of a nice electic gun, or gamma gun. How advanced is this Germony?"

"In their own opinion, certainly, the Germans are highly advanced. Their education system began squeezing out everything to do with God generations ago, starting in Prussia; their most famous philosophers deny the existence of God; their scientists want to practice eugenics based on a materialistic evolutionary ideal; and yet, in times to come, they will somehow cause all the wrong they do to be blamed on Christianity."

At this point, Yuri touched his wife's shoulder, pausing her speech. He said to Jade, "Our native Russia has gone so far down the drain, we can scarcely condemn other countries. And we know of no means to get back to our world anyway, even if we wanted to. More profitable to think about how we survive where we are. Have any of you seen the exterior of this place, or were all of you directly transported INSIDE here from your places of origin, as we were?"
