Gregory Peck: The First Aslan

“We needed to find a way to model the performance to create the essence of the noble, all-powerful lion,” explained Dean Wright, the film’s Oscar-nominated visual effects supervisor, “So we used Gregory Peck in ‘To Kill a Mockingbird.’ His Atticus Finch performance has some of the same regal qualities we wanted, so we used frames of Peck from that film to create movements for Aslan. That helped us build our library of movements, emotions and expressions so that when Liam gave his performance, it gelled perfectly with our Aslan.”

Past Watchful Dragons Report

This past week, beginning November 3, the doors were opened to Narnia and Middle-Earth. Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee, hosted a conference which featured Inklings scholars from around the world talking about a various range of subjects in relation to their works for two and a half magic filled days. The wardrobe door was opened on Wednesday by C.S. Lewis stepson and author, Mr. Douglas Gresham.

Liam Neeson talks Aslan

Though everyone from Ian McKellen to Ralph Fiennes was considered, “we only recorded two,” says producer Mark Johnson. Brian Cox was originally hired, but “when we matched his voice with the visual presentation of Aslan, we realized it was not an ideal fit.” After trying out Neeson, Johnson says, “we knew instantly we had found our mane man.”

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe Post Production Going Strong

Post-production work on New Zealand director Andrew Adamson’s The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe is under way in London. Adult actors including Tilda Swinton, Dawn French, Jim Broadbent, Rupert Everett and all the children have been in and out of an edit suite laying down additional voice tracks on the movie, the Daily Telegraph newspaper reports.

Liam Neeson is Aslan!

Walt Disney Pictures confirmed on Sunday at the San Diego Comic-Con that Liam Neeson (Batman Begins) will voice Aslan the Lion in The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, opening December 9. Brian Cox was previously expected to voice the role.
