Beautifully rendered Narnia game inspired by book, but stands alone

You’ll need to suspend disbelief to think four kids could stave off packs vicious wolves, arrow-shooting dwarves and battalions of other mythical beasts.

But if you bought the idea of a magical land at the back of a wardrobe in the first place, then you’ve already checked your skepticism at the door.

The world of Narnia is discovered by eight-year old Lucy Pevensie during a game of hide-and-seek with her siblings in the country home of an elderly professor. Walking through a magical wardrobe whisks the children away to a dreamlike universe where animals can talk, centaurs roam the hills and winter never ends.

Each of the four siblings is a playable character so it’s a bit of a disappointment that a maximum of only two people can play at the same time. The adventure is whimsical and wonderful and would be even more so if it could be shared with a larger group.

In any case, the characters can be switched from computer-controlled to player-controlled by toggling a button on the controller. Each character has particular abilities, so it’s important to use the right character for the right situation. There are also times where two characters must be linked to perform cooperative moves and overcome obstacles. There are times when you’ll inadvertently switch characters and not realize it because the artificial intelligence takes over without missing a beat. In the meantime, the character actually under your control is taking a beating.
