Someone has posted on Wikipedia about a potential deal between Walden Media and Walt Disney Pictures. It’s an uncited addition to the page, and my research into whomever it is that posted the data has turned up with nothing to verify the source.
On January 14, Disney renegotiated with Walden Media to produce the movie after coming to an agreement on the budget of the film.
I haven’t read that anywhere else, and when there’s no citation of the source, that’s where wikipedia falls short.
Take this news with a grain of salt until it is verified by a Press Release from either Disney or Walden Media. We’ll try to do some investigations of our own to see what we can dig up, in the meantime. It could be that this is a hoax.
UPDATE: A registered editor of Wikipedia has removed the statement. No citation came about, and the person that posted it was probably confusing this with Watchmen, where 20th Century Fox and Warner Brothers came to terms regarding the release of Watchmen.
It would be an interesting development. Disney certainly didn’t get any good PR from ditching the franchise!
Dawn Treader is one of my faves– I just hope whoever does it actually reads the book first!
I take it you think that the writers of the first two didn’t read the book. They actually knew the book better than most of us. One thing that they had to do, that we don’t hear much about, is appeal to investors and to a budget. Writing for screen is something that not many understand except for people in the business. I talked with the writers for a long time about the process that they went through when translating the book to the screen.
I wonder if that means–if this account is true–that they would cut back to LWW’s budget level. So long as the CGI looks convincing, I won’t be too confused. There are many things that can be done convincingly with a small budget, but CGI’s not one of them.
If it is a hoax, it’s not very funny.
I’m not sure if I’d consider this to be good news or bad. Disney hasn’t exactly been helpful in any of the Narnian endevors.
I personally maintain that we can do just as well (if not better) without them. Who need’s the support of a company that bails at the first sight of turbulance and who’s word means so little?
Just a bit of a vent. 🙂

The Wikipedia statement was added by an anonymous editor, and cites no reference. If this were true, someone would have reported it by now. I would not trust this.
Discuss it here in the comments, or here in the forums: https://narniafans.com/forum/showthread.php?t=24404
Sorry I removed your link reference. I like to foster discussion in my forums, here, so as to serve my community.
I will keep that in mind for the future. By the way, a registered editor has removed the statement from that page.
I’m wondering if some one was confused with the news concerning the Watchmen suit. Yes, that’s it.
The Watchman decision (between Fox and Warner Brothers) did not happen until after the statement was put on the Wikipedia page.
Very interesting if this rumour about Disney and Walden is true. I hope it is, so we can get that film.
We’ll have to wait and see!!
I thought that Prince Caspian was even better than the LWW. I am really sad to hear that funding the next movie is uncertain. I think Disney is making a big mistake and I just hope that Fox will see that and jump on it.
PS Who would win in a fight Aslan or the bear from the Golden Compass?
Aslan! Hands… er, paws…. down! 😀
I hope that Disney is not returning. Although both of the movies already made were great, Disney leaving the series is good news, not bad. (Come on Disney, you market the movie poorly, and your answer to not getting the figures you desired is to cut the budget to the next one?) Why do so many Narnia fans act so desperate to have Disney back? There are several companies interested in partnering with Walden-Media and whoever does stands to make a lot of money if the movies are made well (as the last two were, but it is harder to make quality movies with a reduced budget)and marketed right. The Narnia series is a quality series and a great opportunity for filmmaking, we don’t have This is an opportunity for Walden and a new partner to do an even better job with the next film. They certainly don’t have to beg Disney to make a film that might not be worthy of the Narnia series, especially when there are other companies interested. I believe that the Disney departure was for the best. Why continue to partner with a company that does not share your commitment to the series?
