Voyage of the Dawn Treader has a Release Date

Twentieth Century Fox and Walden Media will release “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader” on December 10, 2010.

The move means “Narnia” will once again be a winter franchise, and places it a day past the five year anniversary of the release of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe in 2005.

Twentieth Century Fox recently partnered with Walden on the “Narnia” film series after Disney and Walden parted ways. It was an easy fit, since Walden Media and Fox have a partnership under the Fox Walden banner. Disney was the publicity, financial support and distributor for the first two “Narnia” films. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe debuted in December 2005 and cumed $291.7 million domestically.

Prince Caspian was released last May to less spectacular results, cuming $141.2 million at the North American box office. Walden and Fox believe “Narnia” is better suited for a December release.

As of now, “Dawn Treader” has the 2010 date to itself. Let the countdown begin!

  1. Although I am extremely excited about December 10, 2010 and glad to see things are progressing rapidly on “Voyage of the Dawn Treader,” I certainly do not want to run towards that date!!! Goodness, President Obama will be halfway through his first-term already, Great Britain might have a conservative Prime Minister then, and I might even have a law degree and thus have to actually work for a living. God, I hate getting older, but at least another Narnia movie can make me feel young in spirit and mind!

      • On a positive note though, at least your 30th birthday will coincide with the release of the new film…no better reason than this beautiful setup for a DOUBLE CELEBRATION…did I hear someone say PARTY!!!

  2. YIPPEEEEEEEEEE! At last! That’s so awesome. 5 years from LWW?!?! That’s pretty insane, if you think about it… Well, I’ll definitely be looking forward to it!

  3. Finally! It’s gonna take forEVER but it’s better than never… the kids are gonna be old, but AT LEAST IT’S GONNA BE RELEASED ^_^_^_^

  4. I’m so glad to see you people with variety of age liking Narnia Movies and Books. I’ll be 27 in April, but still excited like a child when first and second movies got out. Where will I be at that time? Finish my Masters, working somewhere on cool job and waiting in from of the cinema 😉

  5. It’s so far. I think of what Peter said to the beavers when they pointed out Aslan’s Camp. But it will be worth the wait. I love the Voyage of the Dawn Treader. It has always been my favorite of the series. I will be the first one in line.

  6. That’s really far away, but I can’t wait! Thank you for letting us know! That was my favorite book in the series.

  7. Dang thats a long time away! I will be so old I could vote next round!! But That Is The Book That Started Me Writing So it’s Worth Waiting For!! I Would Be Nobody With Out This Series!!! LEWIS ROCKS!!!!!

  8. OMG I just thought of something my book will be published at the same time the movie comes out!! Woo Hoo Two New Additions To The Fantasy World!!

  9. Wow, I am so excited! It’s a lot longer than I would have liked, but I am just so relieved that they are still making the movie. It is one of my favorite books, and have been waiting for them to make it and release it since the first one came out. They have done both books justice so far, and I am very impressed!
Thanks Walden Media! And thank you Fox for stepping in and saving the movie!

  10. Since VDT is my favorite book, it’s well worth the wait and just glad it’s being made at all.

  11. Dang. I was really hoping that it will be this year, coming May.
But overall I am going to be excited but mad because Peter and Susan won’t be in this movie, just Edmund and Lucy. Sad though but hopefully they will be in the 4th movie as together again.

    • Peter is reunited in the Last Battle with all the others (inc. Eustace, Jill, Polly & Digrity) but Susan is not. to find out why read the Last Battle

    • It was delayed because of filming delays, and the first one did better with a December release, which tends to be a great time for Fantasy films.

  12. OMGGGGGGGG im so effing excited! &*()^&%^$%&

  16. Yes!!! I was worried with all the delays that it might get pushed to mid 2011! This is much better. I can breathe again!

Here comes my favorite book in the series to the big screen!

  17. Yeah I’m so glad I now have something to look forward to in 2010. I thought another reason the release date was delayed because disney wasn’t going to take part in VDT. I wonder who Walden Media found as a new financer? This is so exciting and it’s true I think fantasy films do better with December release dates!

  18. I thought it would be released a bit sooner but now they have a release date I can’t wait. 😀 ;D

  19. Yes! I just can’t wait! It is my 20 brithday in October next year! Looks like I’ll have to put it on hold, so I can go see it with my family and friends. At least it will be worth seeing it. For Narnia fans, at least it is in December so if your family is in town for thanksgiving and you can see it with your family, aunts, uncles, cousins and grandparents!

    • I was 18 when Star Wars: Episode I came out, and 24 when Episode III came out. It’s fun to be a fan that never grows out of old passions.

  21. Nineteen years old, and I’m going to wait in anticipation. The past two movies have seen files on my computer dedicated to collecting concept art and promo photos… the VDT file is feeling lonely. 😉

  22. can not wait too see it,i am friends with skandar and can not wait too see it,i have the first 2 and i will get this 1.

  23. Even though I didn’t like the last narnia movie, I do like the books a lot. So I hope this movie is as good as the first one and as funny as the BBC ones. 🙂 Go Aslan!!!!

  24. Oww.. Why do they always take such a long time.. seroiusly i simply can’t wait, I mean.. 2010? Aww! By the way, are they making the other Narnia films or not?

  25. I can’t believe we have to wait so long!! And I hope they make the silver chair, and the horse and his boy, I hope they make all of them!! I’m so excited for the release! It’s such a long way from here though, but atleast it’s coming out! So excited

  26. OMG!!!!!!!!i can not wait for this to come out….i looooved the first two!!!! im gettin the eebi-da-jeebies!!!!!

  27. I’ll hit the big four-zero age wise that year. But the books and films are for everyone – I remember reading them all at primary school and thinking what great films they would make. I’ve waited 30 years, but it’s been worth the wait.

The opening charge on the LWW battle scene is still awe-inspiring even after seeing it a number of times. An excuse to get a Blu-Ray player and large HDTV set if ever there was one.

VODT is a different beast though. It is about magic and mysticism rather than large scale battles. With production and costume design in the hands of Roger Ford and Issie Mussenden, visually it will be a treat. Get the screenplay up to 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea standard and it will become a true classic. we shall see, don’t let us down Walden / Fox !
