Twentieth Century Fox and Walden Media will release “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader” on December 10, 2010.
The move means “Narnia” will once again be a winter franchise, and places it a day past the five year anniversary of the release of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe in 2005.
Twentieth Century Fox recently partnered with Walden on the “Narnia” film series after Disney and Walden parted ways. It was an easy fit, since Walden Media and Fox have a partnership under the Fox Walden banner. Disney was the publicity, financial support and distributor for the first two “Narnia” films. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe debuted in December 2005 and cumed $291.7 million domestically.
Prince Caspian was released last May to less spectacular results, cuming $141.2 million at the North American box office. Walden and Fox believe “Narnia” is better suited for a December release.
As of now, “Dawn Treader” has the 2010 date to itself. Let the countdown begin!

Where’s the source?
See under the title of the story.
OMG I CAN’T WAIT<3
I think that Dawn Treader will be released on March 3, but no time can i guess?
March 3?
Woo-hoo!!!! I can’t not wait and am officially starting the countdown!!!
Although I am extremely excited about December 10, 2010 and glad to see things are progressing rapidly on “Voyage of the Dawn Treader,” I certainly do not want to run towards that date!!! Goodness, President Obama will be halfway through his first-term already, Great Britain might have a conservative Prime Minister then, and I might even have a law degree and thus have to actually work for a living. God, I hate getting older, but at least another Narnia movie can make me feel young in spirit and mind!
I know what you mean. I didn’t even think about it, but I’ll be 30 on December 1 of that year. Yikes!
On a positive note though, at least your 30th birthday will coincide with the release of the new film…no better reason than this beautiful setup for a DOUBLE CELEBRATION…did I hear someone say PARTY!!!
YIPPEEEEEEEEEE! At last! That’s so awesome. 5 years from LWW?!?! That’s pretty insane, if you think about it… Well, I’ll definitely be looking forward to it!
Finally! It’s gonna take forEVER but it’s better than never… the kids are gonna be old, but AT LEAST IT’S GONNA BE RELEASED ^_^_^_^
Ah, thank you.
You’re welcome!
i would of just turned 27 years old.gald they have a date i cant wait.
I’m so glad to see you people with variety of age liking Narnia Movies and Books. I’ll be 27 in April, but still excited like a child when first and second movies got out. Where will I be at that time? Finish my Masters, working somewhere on cool job and waiting in from of the cinema 😉
This is cool. I can’t wait.
We have our heading!
It’s so far. I think of what Peter said to the beavers when they pointed out Aslan’s Camp. But it will be worth the wait. I love the Voyage of the Dawn Treader. It has always been my favorite of the series. I will be the first one in line.
huee…
stuill soooo looong!!! ><
That’s really far away, but I can’t wait! Thank you for letting us know! That was my favorite book in the series.
Dang thats a long time away! I will be so old I could vote next round!! But That Is The Book That Started Me Writing So it’s Worth Waiting For!! I Would Be Nobody With Out This Series!!! LEWIS ROCKS!!!!!
OMG I just thought of something my book will be published at the same time the movie comes out!! Woo Hoo Two New Additions To The Fantasy World!!
Ooh, I’ll be almost 52! 😉
Good things are worth waiting for, eh?
Wow, I am so excited! It’s a lot longer than I would have liked, but I am just so relieved that they are still making the movie. It is one of my favorite books, and have been waiting for them to make it and release it since the first one came out. They have done both books justice so far, and I am very impressed!
Thanks Walden Media! And thank you Fox for stepping in and saving the movie!
So is that the release date for the US only or is that the release date for the UK??
Since VDT is my favorite book, it’s well worth the wait and just glad it’s being made at all.
Dang. I was really hoping that it will be this year, coming May.
But overall I am going to be excited but mad because Peter and Susan won’t be in this movie, just Edmund and Lucy. Sad though but hopefully they will be in the 4th movie as together again.
Peter is reunited in the Last Battle with all the others (inc. Eustace, Jill, Polly & Digrity) but Susan is not. to find out why read the Last Battle
umm, yeah….. not worth getting excited about just yet- almost 2 years to go.
I thought it was coming to theaters on May 7, 2010?
It was delayed because of filming delays, and the first one did better with a December release, which tends to be a great time for Fantasy films.
OMGGGGGGGG im so effing excited! &*()^&%^$%&
just curious, does anybody know how you get tickets to the premiere in new york?
i NEED to go!!
can’t wait it’s going to be sweet.
im so excited! i just love the books! VDT was one of my faves! Im gonna see it at midnight when it comes out!
Voyage of the Dawn Treader is my favorite book!
I’m sooooooooooo pumped for the Dawn Treader!!! The excitement is sending chills through my veins!!!!!
Woo! this is going to be exciting! i can’t wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!! =]
Yes!!! I was worried with all the delays that it might get pushed to mid 2011! This is much better. I can breathe again!
Here comes my favorite book in the series to the big screen!
Yeah I’m so glad I now have something to look forward to in 2010. I thought another reason the release date was delayed because disney wasn’t going to take part in VDT. I wonder who Walden Media found as a new financer? This is so exciting and it’s true I think fantasy films do better with December release dates!
~Hannah
It’s 20th Century Fox. It was announced a month or so ago. 🙂
Wow! I can’t wait for it.
hardly wait for this movie XD~
I will be 61. Hope I live to see all of the books.
I thought it would be released a bit sooner but now they have a release date I can’t wait. 😀 ;D
Hurrah! my favourite book)
Yes! I just can’t wait! It is my 20 brithday in October next year! Looks like I’ll have to put it on hold, so I can go see it with my family and friends. At least it will be worth seeing it. For Narnia fans, at least it is in December so if your family is in town for thanksgiving and you can see it with your family, aunts, uncles, cousins and grandparents!
i was 15 when they realased the first narnia movie…18 when was realesed the second one prince caspian…and i’m going to be 20 years old when the third one will be on theaters……..i’m not gonna be that “old”……..just i’m keep getting better….it’s a nice way to see the things….hahaha…i’m always gonna keep a little girl inside of me who belives in magic………
but if in prince caspian skandar was hot can you imagine how his gonna be on the third one movie of narnia………i just can’t wait….it’s torture …for me and billions of people…right
I was 18 when Star Wars: Episode I came out, and 24 when Episode III came out. It’s fun to be a fan that never grows out of old passions.
yeah your right……
that is just one of those movies that i’m waiting for….the number one of course…but damn… its a longtime….
i can imagine myself going to the movietheater to see a movie when i get old….because i really like to see movies in theaters…if is a good one of course…im going to be there with my husband …haha….i dont know him yet..but i keep hope…you know to get that old with somebody next to you….haha
ciao
Nineteen years old, and I’m going to wait in anticipation. The past two movies have seen files on my computer dedicated to collecting concept art and promo photos… the VDT file is feeling lonely. 😉
can not wait too see it,i am friends with skandar and can not wait too see it,i have the first 2 and i will get this 1.
Even though I didn’t like the last narnia movie, I do like the books a lot. So I hope this movie is as good as the first one and as funny as the BBC ones. 🙂 Go Aslan!!!!
OH THANK GOD. I THOUGHT IT WOULDN’T BE! DAWN TREADER IS MY FAVORITE!!!!
it goes out on the day of my birthday!! wooooooooow!!
What ? ? ?
I think that release on 7 May 2010 . . .
Oh . . I can’t believe it
Oww.. Why do they always take such a long time.. seroiusly i simply can’t wait, I mean.. 2010? Aww! By the way, are they making the other Narnia films or not?
I can’t believe we have to wait so long!! And I hope they make the silver chair, and the horse and his boy, I hope they make all of them!! I’m so excited for the release! It’s such a long way from here though, but atleast it’s coming out! So excited
OMG!!!!!!!!i can not wait for this to come out….i looooved the first two!!!! im gettin the eebi-da-jeebies!!!!!
I’ll hit the big four-zero age wise that year. But the books and films are for everyone – I remember reading them all at primary school and thinking what great films they would make. I’ve waited 30 years, but it’s been worth the wait.
The opening charge on the LWW battle scene is still awe-inspiring even after seeing it a number of times. An excuse to get a Blu-Ray player and large HDTV set if ever there was one.
VODT is a different beast though. It is about magic and mysticism rather than large scale battles. With production and costume design in the hands of Roger Ford and Issie Mussenden, visually it will be a treat. Get the screenplay up to 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea standard and it will become a true classic. we shall see, don’t let us down Walden / Fox !
i think that fox will make the narnia bigest film ever bicouse thez make a TITANIC and it was the movie four all times and epic novel like NarniA will be no diferent and i beg a fox and a walden media to tray to make this one to be a hit like titanic please fox do that all of the world wait for the third part of best movie ever like narnia thaks………………………..
hmm walden/fox combination shud prove better den disney/walden but still disney had its own charm, but lets c 2 what heights can dey take dis mov 2
i hav been a great fan of this mov since my childhood hope its scores way better den “harry potter”.
make us proud W/F!!!!
VODT has always been my favorite of the books by far, the one I’ve read more than any other. I’ve been waiting for this movie for a long time — I’m 42, I first read the Magician’s Nephew when I was in first grade (that’s my 2nd favorite)
I can’t wait. I didn’t know that Disney was stepping aside. I hope that doesn’t put some parents off, and for that matter, I hope they still give it a kid-friendly rating. I hope they don’t gear it towards kids only though. I love the books, and the flicks have been great, too! I read them all when I was in 3rd and 4th grade, and I started reading them all over again recently (I’m almost 32 now). I’m just starting VoTDT now and I’m remembering how much I liked it. I’m so glad they’re making these movies. C.S. Lewis is still my favorite author to this day!! I love The Screwtape Letters (John Cleese audio book is hillarious) and wish they would make that into a movie, too. I could go on and on, but I’ll stop. Looking forward to the film.
I hope a better job is done on this movie than PC. The first was almost completely true to the book with only a couple of understandable differences but PC should have said “loosely based on the book by C. S. Lewis.” I hope that VDT holds true to the book. I have been reading this series for almost three decades and will start reading them to my grandson as soon as I can.
Prince Caspian was a great movie. All you people criticizing it because it is not exactly like the book are crazy. It was way better than the first one. The first one was good but it took a long time for the movie to get going. The first half hour of the first one was kind of boring but it got better as the movie went along. The second one was exciting from beginning to end, I am sure the third one will be the best one yet.
I can hardly wait. I loved the first two as much as my wife and kids did. I hope they are going to use the same two actors that were in the first two. I will let my kids know and the count down will begin.
I’ve read all the Narnia books at least 6 times. I hope all the books get movies made of them. I would love to see. The Horse and His Boy. I also hope to see the same actors and actresses playing their same parts.
They are just doing LLW PC VODT TSC and The Last Battle.
I wish they would do the other two too
I don’t know where you got this information, but I know for a fact that it is currently not even set in stone which one they will do next.
Well it’s not fair ive been told last year voyage of the dawn treader won’t be released until may 6 2010 but Walden Media is right it should come in december it will feel magical like the first one when it came out during christmas. I guess that’s how Lewis would have liked it.
Dear shawn,
It’s possible that all of the children will be in the the last battle movie because they’re all in the last book.
dear renata…
it’s impossible…because..Peter, Edmund and Luci got accident in the train together with their mother and prof. kirke..so imposible that will together in last part of the book or movie of it…maybe it’s mention it in “The Silver Chair”…
i can’t wait!!!!!! the first two were great! i’m not sure what this one’s going to be like because i think there’s a different director i really hope no one changes the actors or actresses they did a great job!:)
i’m so excited!!!! 😀 the first two movies were amzing and so acurate to the books, which i was very impressed by. but, the voyage of the dawn treader was always my favorite book. cannot wait for december 10 2010!
Remember Susan isn’t in the last one. Only mentioned.
i sooooo cant wait for this one to come out!!!!!!!! i totally love the 1st two ( the 2nd one a bit better)… oooh!!!
do you think it comes out on 10/12/10 in all countries? dont the release dates vary?
can i please ask if “the magic nephew” is part of the chronicles of narnia, or what order do the book go in???
QueenAnna: “The Magician’s Nephew” is indeed part of the Chronicles. Lewis wrote it sixth I believe, and yet it looks back to when Narnia came into existence – therefore, some prefer to call The Magician’s Nephew the first in the series. I believe the books were written in this order:
1. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe
2. Prince Caspian
3. The Voyage of the Dawn Treader
4. The Silver Chair
5. The Horse and His Boy *
6. The Magician’s Nephew
7. The Last Battle
* Horse and His Boy is set during the Golden Age of Narnia when the Pevensies were kings and queens.
when is the Voyage of the Dawn Treader Date here in the Philippines? is it the same…?
also on Dec 10 2010?
love seeing the chronicles come to life in these movies and not just in my imagination.
cant wait for it. ive have been inspired by the films( old ones 1990’s) the new ones( 2005 till now) and the books
Can’t wait to see this movie, I am glad they are keeping the same actors!! It just messes up movies when they don’t use the original actors in sequals. I am really looking forward to seeing this movie; so far I have not been disappointed in either ones that I have saw!! I hope the Silver Chair is next!!!!!!!
Two of my daughters just watched the previews- we can’t wait to go on opening weekend!
