Saturday, September 19, 1931 — Late-night walk with J.R.R. Tolkien and Hugo Dyson where C.S. Lewis was persuaded of the truth of Christianity.According to the C.S. Lewis Tour Guide, “On 19 September 1931, a conversation between C.S. Lewis, Hugo Dyson, and J.R.R. Tolkien … leads to Lewis’s conversion to Christianity.”From Lewis’s 1931 letter to Arthur Greeves (dated October 18, 1931):Lewis recounted the impact of his walk with Tolkien and Dyson:“Now the story of Christ is simply a true myth: a myth working on us in the same way as the others, but with this tremendous difference that it really happened…”(This is Lewis’s paraphrase of Tolkien’s argument, written less than a month after the walk.)
