Narnia Fans Spy Tamika writes: I was at Cleveland Point yesterday during the filming of The Voyage of the Dawn Treader and managed to get some pretty interesting photos of the cast and crew. It was a quiet day with maybe 15 spectators and we just happened to get there right before the lunch break, which meant the stars and extras were all walking around. Some of the extras (sailors) came out and talked to the fans in depth about the filming and posed for pictures.

There was a shuttle bus running between the set and the carpark. I’m still not sure why, but we accidentally got dropped off within the off limits area where the cast trailers and everything were. I managed to get a picture of the smaller boats while we were in there:

Some interesting facts:

The sailors all have different costumes depending on their rank. I can’t remember them all, but blue with collars are the highest ranking etc.

Michael Apted’s trailer has number plates that read ‘IH8WRK’

Ben Barnes walked past the fence where the fans were waiting, smiled, waved and made a remark along the lines of ‘have you been waiting there all day?’ before rushing off to film the next scene.

The crew and possibly some of the cast were playing cricket during their lunch break. We couldn’t see the game, but we saw some of them walk in with bats and stumps and heard cheers errupting from somewhere behind the tents.

The minotaur’s costumes are extremely hot and heavy. When they are all suited up they are pretty much walking en pointe. One of the stunt men was seen asking for bandaids for his feet. It also gets so hot that the crew carries the minotaur heads onto the ship and the director calls out ‘HEADS ON!’ over the loudspeaker just before they are ready to start filming the scene.

Sorry for the bad quality of the pictures! My camera ran out of battery so I had to rely on my friend’s old camera which wasn’t very good. I’ll be going back to the set in a week or so, so I’ll endeavour to take some better quality pictures, hopefully of the main cast in costume.

  2. I know the suits are really hot, becuase I watched the bonus features of Prince Caspian. Shang Rangi was charging into the castle and slammed into the gate, crushed his head mask. OW! That girl might be Ramandu’s daughter, but I’m not sure why she would be on the ship set.

    • that girl doesn’t look like Tamsin Egerton to me. But if she is, she and Ben are old friends and he used to hang out with her on the flat Tamsin share with Talulah Riley. All of them are stars of Ealing Studio.

  4. It looks to me like Shang Rangi and that other guy in the minotaur suit are wearing wet-suits. I wonder in they will start to get dramatic and have them falling in the water. Even though that would be really dangerous, and it might destroy the suit. Just wondering.

  6. I don’t think that’s Ramandu’s daughter at all. I’ve seen what the actress looks like and her hair wasn’t that long. In the first movie they said that steam would come off the minotaur’s heads they were so hot! King Caspian’s new hair style and clothing is ever so much kinglier than before don’t you think?

    Actually, Ben doesn’t look as bad as I’d feared he would when I heard he had a mustache. Just a little basic fuzz–nothing busy and intimidating. :p

    But seriously, people, even for a laddie adopted into the Narnian cultural stream, if you’re gonna go for the whole Euro-piratical origins then it’s NATURAL for Caspian to be thinking of facial hair as a sign of being manly. Having given then the suspension of disbelief on the look they chose for the Telmarines a long time ago, there isn’t much more they can do to his physique to peeve me.

    those must be shots of Ben before he got drenched when they shot the scenes after lunch (the ones posted on Narniaweb). i was wondering if you were able to spot Will Poulter (the kid playing Eustace)? he doesnt seem to be in any of the shots taken by fans that day.

    the girl in the last photo is not Laura Brent (actress cast to play Ramandu’s Daughter), however i have to agree with Eye Spy that it could be Tamsin Egerton. regardless if she has something going on with Ben, it doesnt explain why she would be on the ship, holding a script, or being directed by stage hands to go somewhere. unless Michael Apted runs a very easygoing set, visitors shouldnt be anywhere near where they are shooting the scenes (in this case up on the ship deck). so in the wildest guesses, if this is Tamsin, she might have a small role in VDT (maybe something Ben was able to get for her), or maybe this is just a very pretty crew member and she has every business walking around the set 😛

  16. objectively speaking, there’s something fishy about that interview. i’ve read and listened to enough Ben Barnes interviews to have a “feel” of his real answers, and there are some there that doesnt quite sound genuinely his. in any case, you gotta wonder how accurate any of that is, the very simple, and very easy, detail to verify there– his age– is wrong. makes me doubt on everything else (except the part where he said he’s tidy– he’s one of those A-type personalities, they are neat freaks!)

    his age is wrong and a bunch of it doesnt sound like him. he didnt say in the interview that he was in a relationship and cosmo is like kinda gossipy so what makes it true?

    i read somewhere that tasmin and him were friends. both worked for ealing studios and are friends with colin firth. she is like way to young. if ben was dating someone wouldnt they be around the same age as him? she is like 19. also in an article she has been in a long term relationship with someone else. ben has like a zillion things going on right now. i kind of find it hard to believe he is dating someone at the moment. he even said that some interviews that he has done, they edit some parts and fabricate stuff to make him sound interesting and stuff.

    like both of them have worked for ealings studio and prob have met at some function or what not and have become friends.

    that interview sounds fabricated.. thats my opinion

  20. she attended the caspian premiere last year in london. both worked for ealing studios. st. trinians and easy virtue. both worked with colin firth. probs a friend

    i think he said that in an interview that those rumors of him being with tasmin or any one else were false.

    until ben barnes or anyone that is reliable confirms it. its probs a rumor.

    cosmo aint the most reliable source u know.

  21. I did see Will Poulter a bunch of times, but I didn’t think to take any photos! He wasn’t in costume, just walking around the set. I also saw him in a trailer doing some school work. After reading these comments, I’m 99% sure the girl is Tamsin Egerton.

    • @Tamika, thanks so much for responding back! so Will was there, but he just wasnt shooting his scenes? hmm interesting, you’d think they’d all get pulled out of the water together. maybe they’re shooting the scene that specifically shows the bond re-emerging between Caspian, Edmund and Lucy, hence why only Ben, Skandar and Georgie would be shooting? or as i said earlier maybe its a scheduling thing. it would be interesting to see if Ben would be on set this Friday, given that his film Dorian Gray is premiering at the Toronto film fest that day.

      so you sure its Tamsin Egerton? uh, is she there for business or non-business?

    He better have a bigger role in this film, he only had like 15 lines in PC and they were pretty much the best 15 lines! Who doesn’t love Edmund? Everyone loves Edmund! I want to see him!!!!

    the guy speaking on that interview is so sleazy..Ben would never talk openly about his sex life.. Ben can be naughty on interviews, but he was never that explicit…and after all these years of being mum about his personal life, why the sudden revelations? the article sounded so wrong to me…

  27. From the pictures, I don’t like the “King” caspian hair and facial hair that much.

    If they have to change Caspian’s look, a pulled back hair (but not slicked ) with some loose stands & tied into a low pony tail and a mustache is what I would like.

    Don’t get me wrong cuz he’s handsome no matter what.

  28. i’m glad to see that somebody got to go to the set of VDT 🙂 and see the fliming that sounds so exciteing, i’m glad that vistors were allowed to watch the fliming and that they were able to see ben barnes and the rest of the crew fliming the movie, i’m glad to see it is progressing nicely 🙂 i’m looking forward to see ben barnes as caspian and the rest of the actors & actoresses in the flim

  31. @JadistarkilleR – I left as the actors reboarded the ship after their lunch break, so I wouldn’t be able to tell you if Will was in those scenes or not. The scene they were filming before lunch had something to do with a dragon attacking the ship – which would explain why Will wasn’t on set. I can only speculate about the blonde girl on set, whether she was Tamsin or not. The similarities between the two are quite remarkable though and as people have pointed out, her and Ben have been rumoured to be together for a while now. This girl was extremely tall, skinny and beautiful, with ridiculously long legs. When she was walking around I had people who didn’t know anything about the movie asking me who the ‘main actress’ was. If she was a crew member, she was the only one walking around with a handbag and slip on shoes. If she was, in fact, Tamsin Egerton, then Australia is a long way for someone to travel just to say hi to a friend… If it turns out that she doesn’t have a part in the movie, I can only speculate that her and Ben are together. I was down Cleveland yesterday and Ben looks absoultely perfect he is soo hot and really lovely he even posed for some photos I took, there is a photo somewhere on here of him waving guess who hes waving at (im serious) he still looks fab with the beard and yes both Skandar and Georgie were there as well and the rest of the cast were great too really friendly loved every moment of the day it just sucked that i wasnt a very good photographer so it made me look like a stalker when i kept trying to get the perfect shot how embarrasing anyway well worth taking a day off work lol

  35. Does anyone know the best time to go watch filming when the cast are all walking round the tents?? I went last Friday from around 10-1 and I don’t think Ben Barnes was even there due to his recent sword accident.
    I did see Skander and Georgie a few times though; they weren’t even filming at all though. And I met Will who plays Eustace even though no one else knew who he was. He’s the nicest most polite person you could meet. He shook my hand and introduced himself to me and my friend and asked our names and we got to take a silly picture with him.
    But I’m still holding out on catching a glimpse of Ben before filming finishes at Cleveland.
