Narnia News Round-up

With the world premiere of “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader” less than 24 hours away, and the US open in roughly ten days, multiple media outlets have published reports on the film.

Mike Collett-White from the Reuters news service reports, “Will Narnia blockbuster sink or sail, pundits ask.”  He writes:

“The third Narnia film involves an epic sea voyage, but after its predecessor underperformed at the box office and Disney decided to ditch the franchise, it looks like sink or swim time for the series.”

Hollywoodnews.com’s Sean O’Connell also wonders about the film’s box office performance in his piece, “‘Chronicles of Narnia’ sets sights sights on ‘Potter’ ahead of world premiere.”

Finally, the Wall Street Journal asks “Has God Returned to Narnia?“, commenting “The filmmakers behind the new Narnia movie are putting more faith in Aslan this time around.”

The Journal (a fine newspaper, by the way, and the United States’ largest by circulation) has also published “New ‘Narnia,’ Minus Disney, Hopes to Regain Series’ Spirit.”  The article includes this blurb:

“Mr. Johnson said no decision has been made yet about whether there will be another Narnia sequel, but if the series moves ahead the next film will be ‘The Silver Chair.'”

  1. Goodness, I really hope it is super popular and they get make the silver chair!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. Yes! I’m exceedingly happy for “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader!” I think (and hope) that it will do wonderful at the Box Office! If they make “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Silver Chair” I think I might pass out. That is the best book in the series! Everyone needs to see this movie to help it do good in the Box Office! Come on people, I want a “Silver Chair!”

    • I know! Fox just isn’t as good at marketing as disney! hope that doesn’t hurt the movie to much, I so want to see all the movies lined up in our dvd drawer.

        • they had already decided behind the scenes they were going to drop the francise, that’s why the publicity was so poor-

          • Marketing for PC was developed prior to the film’s May 2008 release. The decision to drop the franchise was made seven months later.

  3. I have been to about a dozen movies in the past few months and have yet to see a Narnia preview in the theater. I didn’t even get to see one at my local Theater when I saw the Toy Story 3 movie, while others in different states reported seeing it at that movie. I guess the Harkins company (Theater franchise here in Arizona)controls their previews! Really poor advertising!

  4. I can’t believe it’s actually happening!!! After such a long time…
