Here’s the press release:

Operation Christmas Child is partnering with the upcoming film, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, set for release on Dec. 10. Through this partnership, Narnia fans will be encouraged to participate in the world’s largest Christmas project by packing shoe box gifts that will make a difference in the lives of needy children.

In Narnia, it was always winter and never Christmas until Aslan arrived with hope. In the same way, simple shoe box gifts filled with toys, school supplies and hygiene items can bring hope to children around the world by reminding them they are loved and not forgotten.

“We’re very excited to participate in the upcoming release of the movie, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader,” said Franklin Graham, President of Samaritan’s Purse. “We want children around the world to know the true meaning of Christmas—the birth of Jesus Christ—and the joy and hope that this brings.”

In the third installment of the blockbuster series, by renowned Christian author and apologist, C.S. Lewis, Lucy and Edmund Pevensie embark upon an incredible adventure on the Narnian ship, the Dawn Treader, confronting obstacles beyond their imagination. Like the Pevensies, shoe box gifts will make their own incredible journeys to over 100 countries this season. Operation Christmas Child will use whatever means necessary—ships, trucks, buses, trains, airplanes, boats, camels, and even dog sleds— for the gifts to reach the neediest children in the far corners of the earth. For many children, these will be the first gifts they have ever received.

Operation Christmas Child is a project of Samaritan’s Purse, the international relief and evangelism organization headed by Franklin Graham. Since 1993, Operation Christmas Child has hand-delivered shoe box gifts in over 130 countries to more than 77 million children suffering from poverty, disaster, disease, and war.

  1. Tom Brainard the Social Media organizer has mentioned the contest through twitter. His account @supertreader said,”One of the most inspiring efforts: #operationnarnia http://bit.ly/aCcE8X give to children and win the #dawntreader premier in your town!”

There will be a contest to win the US Premier of the film for your home town.

  2. My family and I do this every year, even when we’ve only been able to get things from the dollar store and had to rely on others’ donations to send the boxes on their way. This is such a huge way to impact a child’s life, not just to know that they are loved, but that they are loved by a great and almighty God who gave himself for them so that they could have eternal life.

That’s something worth getting excited about, Narnia or not.

  3. My girls and I have been participating in Operation Christmas Child for the last several years, and I am always moved to tears by the videos of all the children who receive shoe boxes. It’s a worthy cause and an easy way to bless a child halfway around the world that you would never know about, if not for this project by Samaritan’s Purse. Participate this year and be blessed!

  4. My church has always done OCC, so now that there’s a Narnia version, I’m even more excited!!!!!! omg im gonna get all of my friends to do it too!!!! wish me luck!!!

  5. Ooh, I love OCC. My youth group pools all our money one day a year, and then all go out shopping together and fill as many shoeboxes as we can.
Which actor/actress collected so many filled shoe boxes?

  6. Oh my gosh! I was so blessed to see just that young woman who had gotten a box before. It let me know how much one can do! Now I’m so invigorated to pack my box knowing that it could change a child’s life!
